Chapter 17 - New Identities

Dante and Raven were certain that they needed new disguises after driving off in their dubious-looking sports car.

"As much as I love the whole'mob boss in heels' aesthetic we've got going on, maybe we should consider actual disguises this time," Raven said, throwing her stolen blazer in the backseat.

Still wearing his red dress, Dante inhaled deeply. "I promise, if you come up with a clown wig for your next idea—"

"Better still." Raven smiled. "Hairstyles."

Dante gave her a glance. "That sounds incredibly permanent."

"Dante, we're fugitives." Raven bent over. "This is dedication."

Dante considered his survival versus his dignity as he gazed at the road ahead. "All right. However, I will shoot you if you give me bangs.

They arrived at a dubious 24-hour gas station that served mystery hot dogs and expired energy drinks.

Raven took out a pair of kitchen scissors, two boxes of drugstore hair dye (one platinum blonde, one black), and a pack of dubious convenience store sushi (for herself, of course).

Dante peered at the sushi. "You will pass away before Morelli's men even discover us."

"Good," Raven said, dramatically chewing. "I won't have to cut your hair then."

Raven gestured to Dante while holding up the jet black hair dye. "Take a seat. Remain. Don't whine.

With a sigh, Dante took a seat. "I think you're enjoying this now."

Without hesitation, she squirted the dye onto his hair. "Oh, of course."

Dante gazed at the mirror for thirty minutes. To be honest, his default setting was already dangerous and brooding, and his blond hair had turned jet black.

Raven took a step back and looked at her work. "All right, whoa. This looks so good that I kind of detest it.

Dante grinned. "Why? Concerned that you might become sidetracked?

Raven snatched up a towel and gave him a headshake. "I'll throw you out of this window myself."

Dante threw platinum blonde dye at her. "It's your turn, Goldilocks."

Raven began to apply the dye despite his sneer. "I'm blaming you if I look ridiculous."

"That's rich, given how you coerced me into doing this."

She rinsed the dye off and checked herself in the mirror after another half hour. Her hair, which had been dark, had turned bright and golden blonde.

She blinked. "I appear to be a Disney princess."

Dante folded his arms and leaned against the sink. "More akin to an antagonist from Disney."

Raven smiled. "Excellent."

Raven reached for the tinted lenses. "All right, let's make this strange."

✔ Dante replaced his eyes with deep brown lenses, giving him a softer but still deadly appearance, and Raven replaced her typical dark eyes with piercing green ones.

Raven's eyebrows twitched. This is disturbing. I think I'm looking at a bootleg version of myself.

Dante rubbed his temples and sighed. "Let's just get going before we have to wear another disguise."

Raven put on jeans, a hoodie, and a sleek leather jacket. She was just another blond woman who didn't look like herself.

Dante blended in with ease thanks to his dark coat, gloves, and beanie.

Raven inspected him. "You appear to be an off-duty hitman."

Dante gave a shrug. "True."

She grinned. "All right, let's find that old man and steal a car."

Dante sighed in agony. "I hope to legally acquire a car one day."

"Boring."
