A few years later, in the eastern city.
"So, I've been in this era for five years now", I thought nostalgically.
Almost four years had passed in the blink of an eye. It felt like yesterday when we held the first leaders' meeting, then three months later I would receive the city leaders for the first time. However, after that time when I couldn't speak clearly and walking made me tired, many things happened. Now, our people live much better; the number of inhabitants in our village has increased; we have improved the sanitation of our settlements and the health of our people; people are learning new skills; and we control a large swathe of land.
All these advances didn't come out of nowhere; these improvements were part of a meticulous development plan. This included increased food production, improved production tools, standardized agricultural and metallurgical processes, improved infrastructure and the development of new types of housing, the development of new forms of food, binding economic pacts with neighboring communities, and superior combat strength for the warring communities.
"And to think we could accomplish so much in such a short time", I said proudly as I looked out the window of my house at the mountain ranges in the distance. I no longer lived in the same place as before, and this was just one of the many results of the changes that had taken place.
When I turned two, we held a second general meeting of all the city, town, and village leaders. But before that, we also held two meetings of the city leaders, where some progress was reported. At the first meeting, the leaders reported that seasonal food harvesting had greatly improved, and that it had been a good harvest year. They also incorporated some natal care techniques, which included: hygiene, which included the newly invented soap, and maternal care. In addition, some villages continued to form closer to the river, and more land was opened for the next crop.
For the third meeting of city leaders, iron tools were introduced. While not as high-quality as some of the powers across the ocean at this time, they were far superior to the stone or bronze tools used by most people on this continent. However, this advancement in our metal technology was not without setbacks. We had to experiment extensively with the types of furnaces we could build, the mold materials we could use, and the remaining unknown metals that could be used in alloys.
"If I had looked more closely at my chemistry textbook while studying, I could have helped us a lot", I thought, remembering how much easier the process of creating iron tools would have been if I had paid more attention in class in my previous life. While I have a "perfect" memory, that doesn't mean I have knowledge of all the technologies of the future. I could only recall what I had seen in my previous life. "I should have spent more time studying than playing strategy games", I thought with annoyance.
With the improvement in iron tools, good news also came regarding advances in boat-making. Through trial and error, the artisans managed to create a prototype boat, which, to my surprise, worked immediately, but they had to research what materials they could use to seal the leaks so that the boat's integrity wouldn't be immediately lost.
In turn, with these boats, the western city was able to establish a village across the river to explore the surrounding area and find new resources. Later, the northern city would also form a town, since they were eager to expand, so they didn't form a village from the start, but went all out.
At that second general meeting of leaders, very good news was reported. First, most of the children were born healthy, except for a few cases where they didn't follow the instructions of their village priest. These people then went to ask the priest to communicate with the gods, asking for forgiveness for not following the instructions dictated by the priest in the name of SuaChie Chuta. The priests asked my opinion on the case and asked if it was necessary to banish these people.
"The level of fanaticism is rising to an alarming level", I thought at the time. I simply told them it was a test they couldn't pass, and that next time they should take any suggestions I gave them into account. I also sent them messages of condolence for their loss, which were received with indifference. "It seems they're not affected by these losses. I suppose it's common to lose a newborn baby these days", I thought at the time, following the response I received.
At the meeting, I also saw some new faces. Some were leaders of new villages or towns in our territory, as well as leaders and priests from nearby towns, both north and south. The presence of these southern leaders was due to the fact that the meeting I had with their High Priest was very productive. He was as devout a person as Simte, and with my explanation of the knowledge of the gods, my reasoning for their greatness, and the allusion to us all being one race with different languages, I managed to convince him immediately. He also expressed his gratitude for the gestures I was showing his people by sending gifts and surplus food to the northernmost villages.
With their priests supporting us, the leaders seeing the improvement in our people's quality of life, and our friendly relations, we were already making agreements for a possible union of our people. To this we must also add that, in my order, they should not be forced to speak our language or change their customs, which was well received by them. Furthermore, after compiling a complete compilation of their history and mythology, I also decided to improve our religion by including many of their beliefs and adapting them to ours, resulting in a much more complete and integrated mythology for both peoples. This measure was widely accepted by the priests and leaders of their settlements; they were very grateful for my understanding of their beliefs and believed even more in my prophecy and divine knowledge. "Our people will have freedom of thought. However, under no circumstances may we insult the gods, or else we will be punished with their full fury", I told them sternly at the time.
For the northern people, it was much easier. Our cultures didn't differ much, and the only problem would be whether their leaders could accept losing some decision-making power over their people. However, when they saw the improvements in our quality of life, and especially the new types of food we were producing, their doubts vanished.
"It seems that conquering men with food doesn't only happen in romantic situations in the future", I thought at that moment, thinking about how a few simple plates of food could so greatly change men's way of thinking.
The good thing about these improvements in our relations was that their presence at that second general meeting led to the unification of those two peoples as part of our people under the name of Suaza in the following months.
----
When I turned three, the meeting was very different from the previous times. This time, people from those towns that had previously been merely our neighbors participated but were now part of our greater people. The titles of city leaders had changed; they were now called Chiefs, who controlled the largest cities throughout the territory under my guidance. Towns and villages continued to proliferate with the annexation of new territory, and their leaders were under the jurisdiction of the nearest cities.
The cities had changed a lot, as building houses in the style our cultures maintained was very easy; even the materials they were made of could be reused and moved to more convenient locations.
The original cities of the east and center were united, forming a large city called 'Central Mountain City'.
The original cities of the west and north were united, forming a large city called 'New Valley City'.
The original city of the south and the people of the southern mountain ranges were united, forming a large city called 'Mountain Crossing City'.
Two great cities were created in the original territory of the northern people. The first was called 'Mountain Pass City', which was located between the original territory of the northern people and the original city of the northern people. This was the only one of all the great cities that was built from scratch, as the rest had original settlements as references. The other great city was called 'Lake Mountain City', a name I intended to correct to sea or ocean, instead of lake, but it sounds much better that way.
Several cities were also created, the size of the original cities. These were located between the districts, on the other side of the eastern mountain where the original eastern city was located, along the river, in our neighbors' original territories, and at the mouth of the river to the sea, forming the first official coastal city in our territory.
"We're growing very fast", I said, looking at the map in my room showing the different territories explored so far.
