The fourth day of the Gamma Tournament dawned with a sky streaked in lavender and gold, the kind of morning that made the kingdom feel like it was holding its breath. I stood at the edge of the tournament grounds, just past the viewing platform, a parchment scroll unrolled in my hand. My eyes flicked between the tightly packed lines of aqueduct schematics and the fighters circling each other in the ring below.
The aqueducts had to be perfect. Not just because they would bring water to Moonhaven and every city across the kingdom, but because they were the trap as well as the long term salvation when we would be one-day faced with a powerful drought. The walls around the capital were being retrofitted as well to connect to the system and into the shared lake with Moonhaven.
