Chapter 23 - Roads Not Taken and Paths Forward

I hadn't expected anyone else to join me on the balcony, but the soft swish of fabric behind me alerted me to the presence of another. I turned to find Elder MoonChild stepping onto the stone, her opalescent gown shimmering like liquid silver in the moonlight, catching the faint drizzle of rain that clung to the night air. Her hair was half-up, the rest cascading down her back in soft waves that caught the light, and she wore the grace of someone who had lived through many seasons, each one adding another layer to her presence.

Her eyes, always so knowing, met mine, and for a moment, she simply stood there, looking at the garden below, her expression distant. She took a slow, measured breath before speaking, her voice soft and layered with memories.
