Chapter 17 - chapter 17: The Battle is won

The battlefield was a wasteland. The once vibrant forest now stood in silence, the cries of battle having faded into the cold, eerie stillness of the aftermath. The ground was soaked in blood, both from wolves and warriors alike, marking the price they had paid for victory. Selena stood at the edge of the clearing, her body aching, her fur matted with sweat and blood. The adrenaline that had fueled her through the battle was now fading, leaving behind the crushing weight of exhaustion.

But it was over. The battle was won.

The Crimson Shadow Pack had claimed victory, and Ryker's forces lay scattered in defeat. The wolves of Ryker's pack had been pushed back, their strength faltering as the pack Selena had built fought with an intensity that no one had expected. Selena had led them, not as the weak omega she once was, but as a warrior—someone who had earned her place among them.

She could feel Luna inside her, no longer a dormant presence but a fierce, loyal companion, one that had fought beside her every step of the way. Together, they had become something more than they had ever been alone.

Selena turned, her gaze scanning the remnants of the battlefield. Kade was standing nearby, his expression grim as he wiped the blood from his sword. His usual calm demeanor had been replaced by the rawness of the battle they had just endured. But beneath the exhaustion, there was something else in his eyes—pride.

"We did it," Kade said, his voice hoarse but filled with satisfaction.

Selena nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of it all. "We did."

She felt the presence of Aiden beside her, his face grim as he looked around the battlefield. He, too, had fought hard, but Selena could see the relief in his eyes as he surveyed the aftermath. Their pack had held their ground, pushed back the forces that had come for them, and now, they were the victors.

But even in victory, the reality of what they had lost began to settle in. The cost had been high. Wolves lay scattered across the field, their bodies motionless, their sacrifice a stark reminder of the price of war. Selena's heart clenched as she saw one of the familiar faces from her pack lying among the fallen. A packmate, a brother, someone she had fought beside. Their loss would not be forgotten.

"We'll mourn later," Aiden said, sensing her pain. He placed a hand on her shoulder, offering a brief moment of comfort. "But right now, we need to make sure Ryker's forces are no longer a threat."

Selena's eyes narrowed as she looked toward the remnants of Ryker's pack. The Alpha had fallen—defeated by her own hands—but his legacy was far from gone. The wolves who had followed him were now scattered, leaderless, and broken. She could hear their whimpers, the sound of defeat in their voices. They were no longer a cohesive force. Without Ryker, they were lost.

Selena turned her attention to the pack's remaining warriors, giving a firm nod. "We'll take them in. Those who are willing to join us will be welcomed. The rest…" She trailed off, her voice hardening. "We'll make sure they won't threaten us again."

Kade and Aiden exchanged a glance, understanding her unspoken words. They were no longer the underdogs. No longer the pack that had been pushed to the brink. They were a force to be reckoned with.

As Selena made her way across the battlefield, she saw the faces of the fallen—the wolves who had given everything for the pack. Their loyalty, their courage, would not be forgotten. She would make sure of that. The price of their victory had been steep, but it had forged a pack stronger than any that had come before. The Crimson Shadow Pack had survived, and it had emerged victorious.

She stopped beside one of the fallen warriors, her heart heavy with grief. He had been a friend. A brother. Selena bowed her head, her wolf howling in mourning alongside her. She would carry their memory with her, and in doing so, their sacrifice would never be in vain.

As the days passed, the pack began to regroup. The survivors were tended to, their wounds cleaned and bandaged, their spirits beginning to heal. But the war was far from over. Selena knew that the road ahead would be fraught with challenges. Ryker's influence had not disappeared overnight, and there would always be those who sought to tear them down. But they had proven something today—something they had never truly believed before.

They were stronger together.

Selena stood atop a small rise overlooking the pack as they celebrated their hard-won victory. The sun was beginning to rise, casting its golden light across the field. The battle was won, but the war for their future had just begun.

She had always felt like the weakest wolf. An omega, overlooked and dismissed. But now, as she watched her pack celebrate, she realized that she was no longer that girl. She was the leader of the Crimson Shadow Pack, a pack forged in blood and sacrifice, and they had earned their place in this world.

She turned to Kade, who stood by her side, his eyes filled with a mixture of pride and admiration. He had been there through it all, had fought alongside her when she had doubted herself, had believed in her even when she couldn't believe in herself.

"We did it," Selena whispered, her voice filled with awe.

"We did," Kade agreed, his voice soft but resolute. "And we'll continue to fight. Together."

Selena looked out over her pack, her heart swelling with pride. They had won. The battle was over. But the future was theirs to shape, and she would lead them to greatness.

And this time, she wouldn't run.
