Chapter 17 - Fooled

A year swept by and Wish was convinced all that happened was just a silly, good dream. Every day, before she went to work, she would wander on the private road, looking for that particular graveyard. But it was like it vanished and appeared at will. Wish dared herself for months never to head to the Black gates mansion to look for him.

To question him for putting her on radio silence for twelve good months.

He was supposed to come for her a night after that great intimacy they shared. He compelled her to sleep, and she woke up the next day with her work ID card in her hands.

She wouldn't lie when she said she waited for him. Longed all day and tried to understand what he meant by taking her.

She stood up all night in anticipation. Even taking a long exhausting stroll alone down the private road around 2am repeatedly and waiting at the graveyard for any sign of him, but he was nowhere to be seen.

It was disappointing and embarrassing to know she really thought that highly of herself in comparison to him. To being someone he would love or be attracted to.

She waited for him under the rain dripping wet that day all alone in that graveyard for hours until the sun started to peak from the clouds, and she realized she had been fooled.

It only took a kiss for her to not know her place, to lose her standards and letting herself go completely and doing things she would normally not do for anyone. Even herself.

But he was different. Peculiar in many ways. If he could go a whole calendar without fulfilling his promise or giving her the slightest explanation as to why he wouldn't be fulfilling them anymore, says a lot of how he must have viewed her as. A stupid, hopeless girl fooled to believe he was some prestigious vampire, gave her the best kiss in the world and called her 'mine' like it was some drug he survived on.

Wish scoffed as she continued to brush her teeth. Ignoring how heavy, her hands were around the marbled sink as she proceeded to wash her face and stepping inside the shower. It's been a full-blown year, and it was insane when she could still feel his touch. Her lips still tingled like the first time she was kissed by that deceiving vampire. All she needed to do was to properly visualize that scene and moments from a year ago and…drown in that endless pool of lust.

She lowered her head down in shame at how easy she must have been for him. She was vulnerable and swayed by how he made her feel like he found her appealing every time he laid his eyes on her. It was the shortest time together, but a lot happened.

Vampires must be worse than some shit they have as males here in her world.

She angrily turned off the shower, stepped out, and began to dress up for another day in the Library. It's remarkable how a small one-man library from a year ago has flourished enough for them to be able to afford their building. It might not look like the best job in the world, but it has been a good source of distraction from overthinking things and worrying about her cursed life.

Even men don't look at her in what must feel like total disgusts anymore. She no longer became visible to them, no matter how hard she tried. And time was no longer on her side.

How bad it is for a twenty-something year old adult to not have been swayed off her feet by romance before. She's only read and experienced it in books on her lunch breaks and could only imagine what all those fuzzy feelings, curling your toes, butterflies spreading in your stomach must feel like. She was probably the weirdest and least interesting person in this fucking world. She should let go of that blood sucking stage of her life and be hopeful for the best hereafter.

That day at work, it rained heavily that afternoon that she wasn't expecting anyone to come in this weather to get books or come read them here.

''That's going to be two dollars and ninety-nine cents?'' She said, without raising her head to view whatever customer was getting a book from them. She wanted to ask if the customer would be following the cashless policy today, but she held back, wondering who wouldn't have a two dollar in cash with him…?

Their Library has flourished to being a unique one among other libraries. You can read books for free for long hours as long as you have your card as a means of identification to show you signed up as a member here for free. If you love the book so much to want it to be yours forever, you can join the queue of other interested buyers and pay for the book at the most affordable price. It was a very generous thing to do when your owner is old and full of love for people and books within him.

When the customer before her wasn't responding to making payments for the book he selected, Wish looked up at the customer to see what was the delay.

She froze and parted her lips in disbelief at the person standing before her and giving her a murderous look.

It's been so long now, more than a year that she thought he genuinely left them like the true coward he was without looking back. He looked paler, dirtier and so unkept that she wondered where he has been all this while without thinking of returning home to them.

He just threw a few rusty coins at her on the table, picked up the small book he was interested in buying and left as fast as he could. It took a whole minute for Wish to snap out from whatever shock she has been forced into by his sudden reappearance to run after him before he disappeared from their lives again.

It was still rainy and wet. The heavy scent of wood and wet leaves greeted her nostrils as their town was surrounded by more trees than normal. She rushed out into their mini-parking lot, not minding the rain, to look everywhere for him.

He shouldn't have gone that far when it took her close to a minute to rush after him. Where did he go now? And is he alright?

Wish fished out for her phone and tried dialing the number they have tried repeatedly, but they have been thrown into voice mail countless times. Her heart began to race when his number was actually ringing this time, and it felt like he would answer in the next second.

She was dripping wet from head to toe, the sky rumbling in a loud cry for worse downpour than this. She tried again when he didn't pick and started to grow a bit desperate until a thick, deary voice answered on the third ring and her breaths ceased.

''….hello?''

Wish thought she imagined it. Or probably the rain messed so much with the network enough for her to be hallucinating. Her hands on her phone tightened as she fought to give a reply.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞; hi angels! (Devil's smirk!)
