Chapter 2 - The Damn Eyeball

He ran for his miserable life, leaping from grasping bony fingers that reached out to catch his ankles. He took a bone from the floor and smashed the skeletons in his way with it, he kept running trying to find a way out of the mess he has placed himself. His ankle struck a loose bone, stumbled and he fell to the ground, guffaws echoed out of the skeletons

CRACK!.

The box shattered under him.

A threatening round eyeball floated into the air, it looked ominous it's eyes still shut

"Wait I went through all that for a damn eyeball?" Liang Shen said out of disappointment checking inside the fragments of the box that remained

"Where is the gold? Where is the so called artifact? I'm doomed" he exclaimed and placed his hands on his head

The eye developed red smoke as if displeased with his statement. It shot at him, catching him off guard and took over his empty left socket and drove deep in

"AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

Pain. Searing, incapacitating pain filled his brain and body.

Liang Shen's yell thundered out across the devastation as the eyeball flew at him, branding itself into his skull like a burning hot iron. His vision blurred, his form contorted, he convulsed and for one moment of absolute terror, he could sense his soul tearing itself loose from his very body.

There was silence, the skeletons stood staring in awe.

The horrific pain came to an end.

He gulped, pressing his hand over his face, expecting to find a hole where his eyeball had been. But everything was.... fine.

Wait. No.

There was something very, very wrong.

His sense of sight shifted. Suddenly, he wasn't merely seeing the ruined walls—he was seeing through it. The stone walls were transparent, revealing ghostly forms pacing inside them, murmuring. Shadows, silent whispers, and something monstrous lurking beneath the earth.

Oh, great," he growled, rubbing his temples. "I now possess a ghost monocle." He was displeased

"So how would I get out of this debt now? Should I just end it here?. Oh sweet mother do you miss me that much?" He soliloquised

Then, inside his head, a voice spoke out.

"Who would be so bold to distub me and wake me from my slumber?"

Liang Shen froze in place. Slowed down his breath, as he spun around—attempting to find where the voice was coming from and he realized it was coming from inside him.

Oh. Oh no.

The floating eyeball had integrated into his own eye. And worse still? It had a mind of it's own.

"You. Idiot." The tone was laced with contempt. "You shattered my prison. Now you are my vessel."

Liang Shen blinked. "Wait, wait, wait. Let's rewind. Your prison? Who are you? And—more to the point—what's your worth, I'm in some kind of trouble you see..."

The voice was exasperated. "Foolish mortal. You are in the presence of Demon Eye Xu Wen, Seer of the Abyss, the bringer of Chaos, Destroyer of—

"Yeah, yeah, long title, very impressive," Liang Shen cut in. "Get to the part where you tell me how to get rid of you."

Xu Wen's tone turned menacing. "You can't."

Liang Shen's stance stiffened. ".Excuse you?"

"Our fates are entwined now, you're my new host, mortal." The demon eye chuckled. "You will do as I say, willingly or not."

Liang Shen gulped. "Okay. Counterproposal: I let the skeletons eat me alive and we both die, yeah?"

Xu Wen grinned. "You're amusing, mortal. I think I'll let you live. for a little while."

Liang Shen snorted. "Great. Just what I needed. A freeload-hungry eyeball with an attitude problem."

And his life had just gone from bad to cursed
