"Coward's Boots… Armor of Love, Fighter Belt, and Hunchback's Dagger… That's enough."
"How do you have so many Enchanted items?"
"Mind your own business."
I had accepted Violet's invitation.
Because I was broke… and no one else would take me in, so I had no choice but to do this.
After that, we agreed to meet at the guild. I went back to my dorm to grab my gear and prepare a few things.
Among them were four Enchanted items and one dagger…
Yeah, that's it.
I wore the Armor of Love. Its design was pretty weird—looked like a holy knight's armor but with a giant heart in the center.
Violet saw me wearing it and tried hard not to laugh.
As for the Fighter Belt… it looked like one of those belts from old Chinese martial arts dramas or something?
I heard Chinese martial arts are useless in real combat and only good for show—MMA proved that.
Well… I hope this belt doesn't disappoint me.
Coward's Boots? No need to explain—super simple design, but when it's time to run, they'll show their true power.
And… the Hunchback's Dagger… looks like an old, rusty knife.
Great. My bad luck is peaking. No way I'm getting anything done with this thing.
"You ready?" Violet walked over with an ice cream cone.
She bought ice cream while I was describing my gear to the readers?
"Yeah, done. So… are we waiting here?"
"Nope, Irilia already booked a room for us to wait in, and we're the only two who haven't gone in yet!"
"…are we late?"
"Yes, super late."
"…"
So the two of us headed to the room Violet mentioned. She opened the door.
"HOLA! Violet is here!"
No one inside responded.
I looked in—there were over ten people.
One guy in full armor, helmet covering his entire head with just four slits to see through. He was holding a spear.
Another guy in a black cloak—looked super mysterious.
A white-haired, blue-eyed girl was sitting in the center, briefing everyone on strategy—probably Irilia.
As for the rest… hard to describe.
"Hello dog 1, dog 2, dog 3, and dog 4!" Violet waved cheerfully at them. They happily waved back, their eyes full of pervy energy.
…I get it. A bunch of pathetic simps. They should be wearing the Armor of Love instead of me.
Looking around, I finally noticed one last person sitting in the corner, looking super nervous.
"…wait a sec, she looks familiar."
She flinched and looked at me.
"Kai?"
"The puking girl?"
"Wha—you forgot my name??"
Ummm… ah right, Kanna. The second female lead.
Why do I forgetting her name? She's a main character, for god's sake…
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"That's my line. What are you doing here?"
"No no, you answer first."
"No, I asked first."
"She's here because she's broke. Just like you," a voice cut in, making both of us look over.
Irilia was writing something on paper while Violet sat casually next to her.
"Broke?" I looked at Kanna, who scratched her head, embarrassed.
"I… live in the slums."
"…Want me to give you something?"
"No…"
I had no idea about the past or lives of the other characters besides the protagonist, since the book didn't describe them at all—except for a few scenes…
"Alright, everyone's here," Irilia said, then stood up.
"I'll now assign each of you your roles."
She pointed at the guy in full armor.
"He'll be the tank and also serve as secondary damage—a reliable hound who asks for nothing in return."
"The guy in the black cloak and the pink-haired girl will be our mages and support for the team."
"Violet and I will be the main damage dealers."
Wow. That's… an extremely simple assignment.
"As for the rest…" She turned to look at us—me included.
"You'll be the ones who go ahead as bait, gather intel, and take on suicidal missions."
…?
What did she just say?
"Wait, me?" Kai pointed at himself.
"Yes, dog number 7."
"Wh—what do you think I am??"
I feel extremely insulted. This is definitely one of those characters readers absolutely hate for being such a damn asshole.
Irilia looked at me, then turned to Violet.
"What's his name?"
"Kai."
"Then… Kai, is there something you're not satisfied with?" she asked, casually.
At least she used my name instead of "dog" this time.
"My role."
But that part? Nah, that's not flying.
"I don't want to die," I said bluntly.
Hearing that, she walked up to me, took my hand,
and handed me a wad of cash.
"This is enough to live for a year."
"…"
"If you survive, the money's yours."
"Say no more."
Honor? I flushed that down the toilet already.
Seeing me count the money, she turned to the others.
"My dear hounds, I hope you fulfill your assigned tasks well. If any of you die, I'll remember your name."
"WOOHOO!! TO BE REMEMBERED BY A GODDESS, WHAT COULD BE BETTER?!"
"I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE! I WANT TO DIE JUST SO SHE'LL REMEMBER ME!!"
"I just came."
I looked at those lunatics screaming and cheering… speechless.
"Um…" Kanna walked over and tugged on my shirt.
"Huh?"
"I'll do my best to support you, so don't worry. I still owe you, after all," she said with a smile.
"…"
You know what? I should probably deal with those three bullies as soon as I can.
After finishing the discussion, the whole group headed to the mission counter.
So here's the breakdown of everyone's roles:
Full-armor guy: Tank and sub-striker
Irilia: Leader and main striker
Violet: Striker
Black-cloaked guy: Mage, damage and support
Kanna: Enchanter, support
Me and the simps: Suicide squad, cannon fodder, dogs
…I'm only doing this for the money, damn it.
"Are you sure about this? This dungeon is rated B in difficulty," the guild girl said to our team.
"Yes."
"Then… I hope you all stay safe."
We were given a few emergency items, just in case things went south.
"Alright, is everyone ready?" Violet asked the group.
"YEAAAAA!!"
"OF COURSE, MY LOVE!!"
"WOOHOOO!!"
Kai and Kanna looked at the others, then raised their hands to join in half-heartedly.
"Yeaa…"
"…"
A B-rank dungeon… is about to be conquered!
(Probably.)
