Chapter 13 - The 2 ways of loot

Forsyx lay on the ground as he heard multiple notifications in his mind.

Ding! Ding!

[You have killed the level 1 White Horned Rabbit.]

[You have killed the level 2 White Horned Rabbit.]

[You have killed the level 2 White Horned Rabbit.]

[You have killed the level 4 White Horned Rabbit.]

[You have killed the level 2 White Horned Rabbit.]

Ding!

[You have leveled up!]

All the notifications popped up in front of him all together.

It was good that he had changed the notification settings so they did not disturb him during combat.

For now, he just closed all the notifications and walked to the monster corpses before they disintegrated.

In Apex Ascension, there were two ways for you to collect loot from monsters.

One was to wait for one minute after you killed your last monster.

The body would disintegrate, and you would gain rewards from the system.

These kinds of rewards were more like game coins.

A single rabbit would go for a couple of copper coins.

The in-game currency system was Copper Coin → Silver Coin → Gold Coin → Platinum Coin → ??? → ????

Basically, 100 copper coins equated to 1 silver, 100 silver coins equated to 1 gold, and 100 gold coins equaled 1 platinum coin.

Beyond platinum coins, players used rare crystals.

The most common was Dark Diamond, which equaled 100 platinum coins for 1 carat of dark diamond.

There were few other crystals that were beyond dark diamonds and used as currency, but all those things were beyond his current self.

Heck, even in his last life, he only saw a dark diamond from afar.

It was not like he did not have money.

Just a day before, he was the owner of almost 1000 + platinum coins worth of stuff.

It was just that getting your hand on a dark diamond was more about the status.

Only the big ones traded with diamonds, while a normal player like him used coins.

Then there were crystals beyond the dark diamond.

He just heard about them in the last life but never saw them in the game world.

They were far more expensive and rarer than the crystal he had asked for from the Kiyon guild.

In comparison, a single one of those crystals might be worth more than all the crystals he traded with Kiyon.

After all, they were special life crystals.

Now, back to the system rewards. It contained coins, rarely some processed body parts, and, in extreme cases, some skill tokens.

Overall, the monster-killing rewards from the system were not that great.

He reached the first rabbit and made a minor cut on its skin, then walked toward the others to do the same.

The second method was the manual method.

For this, you had to make a slight cut on the dead body. This would stop the monster's body from disintegrating.

The entire body would then become your reward.

It's just that, in this case, you would not get any system reward.

Also, players could not store the entire dead bodies in their inventory.

They had to butcher it themselves to store the processed body parts.

Or use the good old way: carry them out in the open.

Even though the manual method was more productive, most individuals and small groups preferred system rewards, as system rewards would give them instant value.

However, carrying the body had its own risks of others targeting you for the parts.

Forsyx looked toward the edge of the forest, and he could sense a couple of fights already happening there.

Not caring about them, he just dragged all the corpses and sat under a thick tree.

For the manual method, learning the butchering skill was a must for players—but it wasn't like you had to rely on the skill.

Heck, a real-life butcher would always do a better job than those who just relied on skills.

It was the same for other lifestyle skills.

The effects of these skills were just passable unless you got a complementary class.

In his past life, chef-class players were the best gatherers that most big guilds used. After all, the Chef class was the best when it came to handling monster meat.

He stopped thinking about those things and just stared at the bloodied bodies for a moment.

Even though he was used to all this in his last life, it would be his first time this time.

The memories of him working in the butcher shop in real life to increase his skill flashed through his mind.

After taking some deep breaths, he grabbed the knife like an artist holds a brush and started moving the blade on the rabbits' bodies.

It was a bit messier for him, as from time to time he cut a bit too deep into the skin, making holes in it.

But he didn't care about the skin.

The most valuable parts of these rabbits were their white horns and the meat for the task.

After 10 minutes of struggle, he finally butchered out 5 horns and 5 tattered but meaty flesh chunks from the rabbit bodies.

Even though the butcher knife was only trash-grade, its shape was suitable for slicing through the meat.

He rubbed the sweat off the back of his bloodied hand.

Heck, killing the monsters was far easier than dealing with their carcasses.

He shook his head and placed all the processed parts and the knife into his inventory.

He just threw out most of the other parts around. The other monster would clear them in a couple of hours.

It took more time than expected, and he saw a few eyes were already on him.

Not caring about them, he switched to his little White Pipler Bird form.

He looked at them and screamed,

"Cooooooooo!"

He saw multiple jaws drop in the bright-colored world.

One guy even fell down from a branch in shock. It was kind of funny.

Not caring about them, he just jumped and started flapping his wings.

This time, he flew above the village gate and transformed back into a human right before the butcher shop.

This one small action was sufficient to create a buzz in the line.

Not caring about them, he just walked into the shop from the side door.

While the main door was for the counter, this one led straight to the slaughterhouse, which was full of screams and blood.

There, he saw an old man shouting at some butcher. This guy was the actual owner of this shop and the one who gave out this chain quest.

He took out the 5 meat pieces and walked toward the old man. This was where the real grind began.
