Chapter 18 - Ch018 - Asgard

Just as Kal realised that Thor was already on Earth, the rain started to fall heavily as Jane ran out of the warehouse. Everyone got wet… except for Jane, who had a ring form around her that diverted all rain. Nobody except for Kal noticed it, however.

"Darcy!" Jane shouted before she slowed down a little and asked, "Kal Dorei?"

"Jane! You're finally back!" Darcy exclaimed as she ran to her friend and boss to give her a hug.

"Finally back?" Jane asked in an unsure tone.

"You've been gone for almost 5 hours! If Kal here didn't reassure me that everything would be fine, I would have called the cops!"

"But you didn't, right? We finally have this place where we can study a contained, unpredictable spatial anomaly! The only ones we have to contend with are kids! If you call the cops we'll have SHIELD here in no time, taking every bit of research away from us like they did in New Mexico!" Jane heatedly argued as she held Darcy's shoulders.

"No, but Jane… you've been gone for five hours. Where were you??"

"I… I don't know," Jane answered after thinking about it for a moment. "It felt like I was gone for only a few seconds."

"Now that you're here, why don't you come out and show yourself?" Kal asked a small distance away from the two girls as he was getting rained on heavily. He was looking in the direction of a lone god of thunder just staring at Jane in relief.

When Thor heard Kal's question, he snapped out of his stupor and walked toward Jane, who had also heard Kal and looked around until her gaze met Thor's.

Darcy, who was once more getting rained on after Jane left to meet Thor halfway, walked toward Kal and quietly asked, "What's happening with this weird space stuff? Are we in danger?"

Jane slapped Thor twice, giving Kal a good chuckle.

"We are, I'm afraid," Kal answered with a solemn nod after the small laugh. He turned to look at Ava and Skye and instructed, "Keep an eye on Darcy and keep her safe. I'll be going with Thor shortly. Find Erik and his instruments to contain the Convergence."

Without waiting for a response, Kal walked over to interrupt the lover's reunion.

"I'm afraid this isn't the loving date you long for, Thor, Jane," Kal offered when he reached the mismatched couple.

"What do you mean, friend?" Thor asked with furrowed brows.

With a nod toward Jane, Kal pleaded, "Please do not be offended."

He reached for the doctor's arms and grabbed her with the intent to hurt. The Aether inside Jane immediately turned defensive and tried to blast Kal away in an explosion of crimson energies. The Mind Stone on Kal's wrist negated most of it as the rest was blocked by a Sacred Shield spell, but Thor was caught off-guard and flung away.

Changing his intent to pure and benevolent, Kal caught the fainting Jane and healed her with a Lifebloom to make sure his purposeful agitation of the Aether wouldn't sap too much life force from the mortal woman.

Looking toward Thor, Kal ordered, "Take us to Asgard. Your father will know what to do with her."

Now that he couldn't get the Aether without the confrontation with the Dark Elves from the Thor movie, Kal decided to hurry along the plot and maybe save Frigga while also dealing with the other elves of this world that gave good elves like him a bad reputation.

He handed over Jane so Thor would be the one to give her a princess carry, lest he provokes jealousy in the god of thunder, and waited for the Asgardian to call on Heimdall.

When he did, Kal experienced travel by Bifrost for a second time before he landed in a resplendent dome shaped hall with a sword altar that activated the Bifrost - as well as a waiting Heimdall who greeted his prince.

"Welcome to Asgard," Heimdall said as he stepped away from the sword. His eyes lingered on Jane only for a short moment before he looked at the elf with narrowed eyes.

"Heimdall," Kal greeted with a nod as he nonchalantly walked next to Thor.

Before the guardian could complain, Thor placated the man and vowed, "I vouch for him. Kal Dorei is a friend of Asgard."

Walking down the bridge leading to the Bifrost, Kal asked, "Do you not have a mount?" the elf summoned his warcharger, "Don't get me wrong, this place is pretty. But I'd rather like to think Jane's matter is a little urgent."

"Yes, let us make haste toward the healer's quarters. They will be able to tell what is wrong with her with the help of the Soulforge," Thor argued and once more picked up Jane as he whirled around his hammer.

Barely able to keep up with a flying Mjolnir, Kal was eventually standing with the Asgardian healers as they discussed their findings with Thor as Jane tried to make sense of the Soulforge, learning that it was a 'quantum field generator', to distract herself.

"My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?" Odin asked as he entered the room and shot a suspicious look toward Kal, who was busy flirting with one of the Asgardian healers.

"She's ill," Thor explained but was cut off by Odin sternly rebuffing, "She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait."

"I brought her here because we can help her," Thor responded with a solemn tone of voice but was cut off by Odin once more.

"She does not belong here in Asgard any more than a goat belongs at a banquet table," Odin scoffed as he turned off the Soulforge.

"Did he just... Who do you think you are?" Jane asked - completely offended by the comparison.

"I am Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms," Odin clarified with a stony expression.

"Oh.. well, I'm-" Jane intended to introduce herself with an awkward smile, but Odin chimed in, "I know very well who you are, Jane Foster."

Jane turned to Thor and shyly asked, "You told your dad about me?"

Ignoring her for a moment, Thor walked behind his father and pleaded, "Something is within her, Father. Something I have not seen before."

"Her world has their healers. They are called 'doctors'. Let them deal with it," Odin instructed before he ordered, "Guards, take her back to Midgard."

The Einherjar in the room walked over to fulfill their King's order before Thor could stop them.

"No! I would not," Thor exclaimed with an outstretched hand and watched as the Reality Stone defended its host by blasting the guards away as he sullenly mumbled, "…touch her."

"Jane, are you alright?" Thor asked as he once more walked to his lover together with his father.

"That's impossible," Odin mumbled as he held his hand over Jane's arm and recognized the Aether coursing through her veins.

"The infection… it's defending her," the lead healer observed with furrowed brows.

"No, it's defending itself," Thor clarified with a worried frown.

"Turn on the Soulforge again," Kal ordered the leading healer lady and placed a hand on Jane's head. "I want to see what's happening."

Thor gave the woman a nod before Odin could ask who Kal was and how he dared to talk to his subjects like this in his presence and the 'quantum field generator' once more showed Jane's inner workings.

[Skills used: Living Seed, Regrowth, Nature's Cure]

The orange particles that showed Jane's body and the red particles showing the Aether suddenly gained a third color as green particles with a golden hue appeared on Jane's head in the form of a seed that slowly pulsed and released more particles into the Earth woman's body.

"It's… you're adding life force directly to her body! How is that possible?" The healer asked with wide eyes. "It becomes her own immediately, with no rejection…"

"Oooh, neat. Always wondered about that. Any chance I could buy a Soulforge and take it with me to Midgard later on?" Kal asked as he jovially turned to Thor.

Odin looked at Kal with a narrowed eye, but before he could say something, Kal waved away, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. I'm here as a friend. I may even grant this healing prowess to some of your healers if they so wish?"

"You speak as though you presume to know my actions, boy?" Odin asked with a small frown.

"You were about to try and imprison me to study my powers because you think me weak, were you not?"

"Father, he is the elf I talked to you about. The one who easily bested me in a single attack on Midgard," Thor whispered in Odin's ear with an awkward smile.

"Kal Dorei," Odin mumbled in recognition. "Tell me then, elf. How come I have never seen your kind in my very long life? How come nobody has ever seen powers like yours?"

With a wink toward Jane, Kal admitted, "I am not of this world. Have you had demons invading Asgard like they have in Midgard? Because I am from their world. And I and others like me are the only thing standing between the Burning Legion and total annihilation."

"The Burning Legion," Odin repeated in a low voice as he studied Kal's expression. There was no falsehood in his words. And the Allfather had indeed seen reports of foul creatures appearing in Asgard and the other realms. And just like Stark, Odin had his scientists create a method to find these demons lest they gather and become an actual threat.

A runic enchanting rod appeared in Kal's hand as he grabbed the sword of the Einherjar next to him in movement much quicker than the guards could prevent and enchanted the blade with Demonslaying, ignoring the other guards who had drawn their weapons and pointed them at the elf.

Once he was done, he handed the sword to Thor for inspection, who promptly handed it to Odin after he sensed no ill intentions.

"Added holy damage and the chance to stun lesser demons. A permanent enchantment of my world. You may need it so that the average Einherjar can deal with the demons. Should they grow stronger with time," Kal explained as Odin studied the blade.

"You boasted that you may grant this… prowess to others?" Odin asked with a narrowed eye.

"Well, the enchanting seems to be unique. But if they have the aptitude, I may indeed grant the holy light to others," Kal offered and walked up to the healer he flirted with before. "May I?"

With a questioning look toward her king, the healer in question received a nod from Odin, who at the same time ordered his Einherjar to be on guard with a covert signal.

"May we watch the process in the Soulforge?" The lead healer asked curiously.

"Sure, we can do that. Good idea, in fact," Kal agreed and guided the healer to lie down after Jane was made to stand awkwardly to the side.

"Huh, all healing classes? Talk about dedication to her profession," Kal mumbled in Thalassian.

When they were ready, Kal activated his ability to grant a class to the Asgardian healer and watched the process in the Soulforge.

Pulses of energy originating in her brain were slowly forming waves inside the healer's body and changing the orange color into something else. Something more golden in nature, tinged in silvery white.

As the elf noticed Odin's brief look toward the Mind Stone socketed in his bracelet, the process was finally over as the woman sat up with a gasp.

She looked at Odin for a short moment before asking Kal, "Is this a regular occurrence? Small text in my vision tells me that I have gained the Discipline, Restoration, and Mistweaver profiles and that I am level 44?"

"Level 44 already? No wonder your transformation took so much longer than it did with the Earthlings. It must be your longevity and stronger constitution," Kal commented in Darnassian before he gave the woman a nod and continued in the language the others spoke. "The small text helps you with your new powers. Since you are already recognized as level 44, you must have learned quite a few spells during your transformation? That's how it went for the Midgardians."

The Asgardian healer pressed both hands together and suddenly conjured a spell effect around everyone present.

"You already know the Prayer of Spirit as opposed to the single target buff Divine Spirit? Not bad," Kal commented as he felt the spell's effect on him.

Everyone in the room suddenly felt more clear headed as they were wondering what had happened to them. Only Odin kept on watching Kal with suspicion.

"Cast Penance on me," Kal instructed as he gave the woman a taste of the spell Power Infusion she should learn soon if she hadn't already.

As her eyes started glowing in a color similar to Kal's, three bolts of holy energies shot at the elf who enjoyed the pleasant healing sensation from someone close to his own powers.

"You'll find out soon enough that this spell will be one of your biggest allies as a discipline priest," Kal commented and looked toward Odin. "Should you promise that your kind stands firmly against the temptations of the Legion, I don't mind granting these powers to more Asgardians. I don't mind enchanting more weapons either, but I will need precious metals and time to gather the necessary materials to work on your entire armory."

"What is it you want in return?" Odin asked in a neutral tone.

"That you fight the Legion when possible," Kal explained before he looked at Jane. "And that I may help in dealing with the Aether."

Odin's suspicions were not lowered when Kal talked about gaining what he suspected to be the elf's second Infinity Stone. The bracelet that the elf was wearing shielded almost all of its powerful pulses of energy, but Odin was still suspicious about the yellow gem socketed into it. The fact that the elf spoke a language even he couldn't understand with his Allspeak didn't help either.

"Very well," Odin offered after contemplating this matter. Empowering some of his Asgardians would not be so bad - even if he wouldn't help the elf keep the stone in the end. But first, he needed to have Idunn, the recipient of Kal's powers, checked for any and all mental manipulations. It wouldn't do to invite someone into the house that would turn his people against him one at a time. "I shall have Lady Sif accompany you to rest for a while. She has come home from a skirmish in Vanaheim earlier today and has many stories to share. You two are acquainted already, are you not?"

An Einherjar walked forward and bid Kal to follow him after seeing a sign from Odin. With a shrug, Kal complied. He saw through Odin's plans, but it wouldn't do to challenge the man any further. Leaving Thor and Jane with a wink, Kal was brought to a banquet hall next to a training ground.
