Chapter 29 - Degradation Aura

Loshu stared blankly as the girl ran back to her containment unit.

The succubus girl was named Gaia—a setting rewritten by Dr. Clef after SCP-166's file was updated.

He knew that.

The name "Gaia" originated from Greek mythology, referring to the mother of gods, also known as the Earth Mother.

The fact that SCP-166 bore this name surely carried deeper meaning.

Ever since Loshu learned about the connection between the succubus girl and the Crimson Bride, he couldn't help but speculate about every detail surrounding her.

Her origins, her name—everything held immense secrets, far beyond being just another SCP meant for idle fantasies.

The real question was—how was Gaia so strong?!

And so ruthless!

The moment she regained consciousness, she had mercilessly snapped the female security officer's neck.

That level of combat prowess was on par with SCP-173!

Her decisiveness was something Loshu couldn't match.

He walked over to the corpse, picked up her gun, and began pondering the woman's origins.

Based on her behavior, she definitely wasn't Foundation personnel but rather an infiltrator or spy from another organization.

And the group most notorious for opposing the Foundation was the Chaos Insurgency.

So why would they target the succubus girl? That was worth considering.

It couldn't just be because they were lusting after her, right…

It had to be related to her origins and secrets.

Loshu even suspected that the invaders—likely Chaos Insurgency operatives—had come specifically for Gaia today. While sporadic conflicts and containment breaches were occurring in other areas of Site-19, this particular zone remained eerily quiet.

It was clearly a diversion tactic—drawing security forces away from this area so they could quietly abduct Gaia.

Thus, Loshu decided to forget about the Plague Doctor for now. Guarding the "C" corridor was more important.

With his antimemetic abilities, teleportation, persuasion, and vertical climbing skills, dealing with a few invaders shouldn't be too difficult.

Just as Loshu opened the SCP Encyclopedia, ready to engage at any moment, the long-awaited eighth page finally appeared.

[O] The moment he saw the ability description, Loshu was stunned.

The SCP Encyclopedia had inadvertently revealed part of the truth.

SCP-166's ability was an aura—and one classified by the Foundation as a Reality Bender, a Green-Type humanoid threat entity under the Global Occult Coalition's classification.

According to the Foundation's definition, Reality Benders/Green-Types are individuals with high Hume levels, capable of destabilizing local reality and manipulating their surroundings through virtual particle/antiparticle pairs.

In simpler terms, Reality Benders/Green-Type SCPs can easily influence their environment.

The succubus girl, Gaia, manifested a Degradation Aura!

This was the strongest ability Loshu had encountered so far!

In combat, activating the aura would cause the enemy's weapons and equipment to quietly degrade into useless scrap.

No wonder the female security officer's pistol had looked so strange—it had already begun deteriorating.

Even more terrifying was the aura's effect on humans—it basically turned people stupid!

No wonder men who saw Gaia immediately succumbed to primal urges. It was all because of this aura.

But what was with that "friendly reminder" at the end…

Loshu's mind instantly conjured unspeakable images, and he reflexively covered his rear.

Just then, Gaia suddenly peeked out from behind the yellow line at the end of the "C" corridor's L-shaped hallway.

"I'm fine now. By the way, you never told me your name."

"Oh, I'm Loshu. Nice to meet you!"

The moment he saw Gaia, Loshu was inevitably affected by the Degradation Aura again, nearly succumbing to his instincts and stepping into the "C" corridor.

Fortunately, Gaia quickly pulled her head back, leaving only her pleasant voice behind. "Come visit me sometime, but… not yet."

Loshu's nose grew warm, and a trickle of blood dripped down.

Did she not realize what would happen if she invited a man to see her?

Aside from her "father," Dr. Clef—who possessed resistance to reality-warping effects and was unaffected by her aura—any normal man near her would turn into a beast.

So… was this an invitation from a goddess?

Thankfully, Loshu had already stepped out of the aura's range. His rational mind told him that wasn't what she meant.

When Gaia said "not yet," she meant he currently lacked the ability to resist reality-warping effects and thus couldn't visit her.

So… does that mean I have to first contain her dad—Dr. Clef, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—to gain his resistance before I can see her again?

Hah… That's a nightmare-tier mission…

Loshu pushed these unrealistic thoughts aside and focused on guarding the entrance to the "C" corridor, waiting for the invasion alert to be lifted.

He glanced at the partially degraded pistol in his hand and ultimately tossed it aside.

Using this thing for self-defense would probably just make it explode in his face!

His decision proved wise.

Soon, a group of people rushed down the hallway—none other than the MTF Nu-7 squad led by the bearded commander.

The moment they spotted Loshu, they immediately raised their weapons at him.

If he hadn't been unarmed, they might have already opened fire.

Despite being acquainted, the commander kept his gun trained on Loshu and asked sternly, "What's the situation here?"

Loshu gave an honest account, omitting only the part where he teleported behind the female security officer.

During his explanation, Gaia's voice echoed from the "C" corridor: "I can vouch for him! He saved me!"

The commander accepted Loshu's explanation and finally lowered his weapon, pointing at the corpse on the ground.

"This one was a Chaos Insurgency infiltrator. She slipped in during SCP-166's relocation from Site-17 to here. D-20915, you've done well again today!"
