Chapter 22 - A Narrow Escape

Despite her suspicions, Dr. Marian Wheeler wasn't reckless enough to shoot Luo Shu on the spot.

After all, she still believed he was O5-8's operative—and without proof of betrayal, she held her fire.

She approached and tapped his shoulder. "Do you know what happened last night?"

Luo Shu turned, startled but composed.

"Of course—" He caught himself.

A normal D-class wouldn't know the details.

He backtracked. "Just some intruder pretending to be D-class, right? Why would you care?"

Wheeler's voice turned icy. "It involved 055. Shouldn't that concern you?"

Luo Shu feigned surprise. "What?! I heard nothing!"

His act worked.

Wheeler knew he'd been in the cafeteria all night—verified by witnesses and cameras.

If not for that, she'd have shot him already.

Her critical blind spot?

She assumed anti-memes couldn't be replicated or weaponized.

The idea that Luo Shu borrowed SCP-055's power never crossed her mind.

Now, he seemed perfectly ordinary—no trace of anti-memetic influence.

Must be a misunderstanding…

She grumbled, "Why pose as D-class? Even C-class would've been better!"

Luo Shu had prepared for this.

"Anti-memes are wary of high-clearance personnel. As a D-class, I'm invisible to them."

Wheeler's eyes lit up. "Brilliant! No wonder my research hits walls!"

Relieved, she left to test his theory elsewhere.

With her gone, Luo Shu was safe.

The Site Director and MTF commander knew nothing of SCP-055.

Even Nine-Tailed Fox couldn't handle memetics, let alone anti-memes.

Only the Anti-Meme Division had the expertise—and now, its head was off his trail.

Newfound Peace

After the close call, Luo Shu's life improved drastically.

The bald man's brother was dead—no more threats in D-block.

Wheeler vanished from Site-19, likely chasing stronger anti-memes.

His janitor duties were light, leaving him free to plan his next moves.

One day, the Eye-Pods visited him in the cafeteria.

Returning them to the garden re-activated his "Vertical Climbing" ability—effortlessly.

SCP-055's power took more work.

During his next SCP-173 cleaning shift, he slipped down to B5, recharging the anti-meme ability.

SCP-055 again tried to share its "truth," but key words still eluded him.

The Next Crisis

Luo Shu's attempts to unlock more SCP pages hit a wall.

As a D-class, his access was too limited—even Safe-class units were off-limits.

Only free-roaming anomalies like the Eye-Pods were within reach.

But his frustration didn't last long.

Site-19 had another incident.
