Chapter 11 - Analyzing Kayn

There was still a lot he had to learn about this world, and one way or another, it wasn't going to be easy.

He wanted to be wary of this place, this world that he found himself in because of what happened in his previous world.

And yet.. he finds himself in a predicament where he's in awe of the things around him.

The night sky and the cold breeze of the dead of night had never felt so surreal before that it made him wonder if his intention was right.

Reign Supreme.

That phrase.. that goal still echoed in his mind no matter what he thought of, even if he wanted nothing to do with this world.

He was a nice, righteous, and kind-hearted person. But to think that's the very reason why he ended up in this world in the first place is really something else.

Those emotions, actions, and empathy he gave without a clear goal in mind made him succumb to his own undoing.

And now he paid the price.

Reflecting on those words he once meant for in kindness to the people around him, now sounded so stupid.

Even right now, after being reincarnated and transported here to a new world, his habit of looking at people with a hope of something, anything, still seems to keep it beside himself.

But he knew that would only end up undeserving of him.

He knew that it would only give him the same experience and disappointment he once foresaw for himself, so now he knows things need to change.

Even if it seems these people, this world, and everything about it all look to be fine, they won't be.

That's why it's only a matter of time before Kayn ends up in the same situation he despised to be in.

Ruby. The first ever person he met in this world.

The encounter was rather sudden and unexpected. He didn't know what to think of it and was on guard.

But in the end, she inevitably introduced herself, little backround of the world, and its system of power.

Kayn was intrigued by this, and her as well. But the fact remains that there is no guarantee she would always be this sensible.

The same goes for the rest of his future interactions and encounters. He didn't want to think like that, to be so.. cautious, but that's the lesson he learned.

But..

She was nice. She was considerate enough to give him information, direction, and, unnoticeably, guidance.

She was a stranger at first, but she showed what it meant to care. At least, that's what he saw.

And because of that, Kayn didn't want to think that she would betray him. No, he didn't.

But at the back of his mind, he had doubts.

Doubts deeply rooted within the experience he felt, he went through.

The same experience that made him suffer. Made him feel pain he never thought was possible. Made him be where he is now.

So, trust is out of the equation.

Kayn was rather confused over what Ruby and Rose were talking about. Especially at his presence. Did they suspect something?

But what would that even be?

The wind around rustled against the gate, and the sound of creaking made it evident that it had stood for years.

Guarding what, exactly? He didn't know, but this forest definitely had its legends.

He found himself yet again alone within the darkness.

Only ever there to think for himself about anything.

Rose, was it? Her eye caught Kayn's attention a lot more than he expected. For it was really strange, but at the same time unique to see something like that.

It glowed through the darkness of the night, almost like it was a flame of its own.

Its yellow tint of light lit up her face like a torch, showing what looked to be nervousness and shock.

He didn't know why she was acting like that, but ever since she laid eyes on him, that eye continued to glow.

What did it mean? Why was it glowing? Was it similar to a Dominion like Ruby's?

He wanted answers, but after being left alone in silence, all he could do was wait for Ruby and Rose to finish their little conversation.

He heard whispering and talking over the gate, but he couldn't decipher nor understand what they were discussing at all.

~~~
"What happened? It's been forever since the last time you acted like this. What did you analyze?"
Ruby was worried beyond belief; sounding like this had already happened back in the past.
But because of how possibly rare it could've been, this sudden occurrence is worrying.
On the other hand, Rose was taking breaths in between heartbeats, almost like she was frightened to the edge of death itself.
But she had to explain things, or it would only get worse. So, she took a deep, deliberate breath before she looked up at Ruby.
"K-Kayn.. who is he? What's he doing here? Where did you find him? No.. how did he find you..?"
Her words were beginning to sound more and more like she was questioning reality itself. Her body was shaking so uncontrollably, her eye twitching like crazy.
Ruby didn't understand what she meant by any of her questions at all. Why Kayn of all people? He didn't even seem to be any threat.
But before she tried to conclude anything, Ruby held Rose by the shoulder, carefully trying to calm her down.
Ruby was at a loss for what to do now because she couldn't understand why.
"Calm down. Just tell me what you saw. Why Kayn?"
Ruby was determined to figure out what was going on, for she herself also had small thoughts of who Kayn was.
Breathing rapidly, but her pace slowed down carefully as she looked away in a short daze.
Rose looked uncertain of what to say or do, but at the same time.. she was in a chokehold.
Her eye was showing her something not even Ruby could ever hope to see. And in a sense, it's both a blessing and a curse.
Ruby was beginning to feel a sense of unease in every second that seemed to pass them by. And now, all of this begs the question.
Who is Kayn Adams, really?
Rose felt like if she were to say something, anything that would regard Kayn in any sense, she would be punished for it.
But, looking at Ruby's worried face and the way she was asking, she had no choice but to tell her what she saw.
"You see.. Kayn is...—"
