Inside his room, Charles Wellington laid on the bed reading medical books. When he left the mountain, Charles stole many books from his old man, not just medical books, but also some books on fighting techniques. Whenever he had free time, he would read and learn. As for the noise outside the door, it had nothing to do with him.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. Charles looked and saw that it was a text message from Melissa Quinton:
"Tonight at 7 o'clock, at the Royale Hotel. Samuel Reed will explain the situation of the Logan Group to you. I'll pick you up before that time."
Charles smiled after reading the message.
The Reed family was quite efficient in handling things.
"Charles, can I come in?"
At this moment, Mrs Linda's voice came from outside the door.
Charles got off the bed and went to open the door. Aunt Linda was holding several plates of cooked food and brought them in for Charles.
"You haven't had lunch yet. I just made this for you. Try it."
"Thank you, Aunt Linda" Charles thanked her and began to eat. He was actually quite hungry.
"Charles, I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I didn't mean to deceive you" Mrs Logan apologized.
"It's mainly because your Uncle James's company is facing difficulties, and this lunch is crucial to whether the company can overcome its difficulties, so..."
Talking about what happened earlier, Linda Logan felt very guilty and felt sorry for Charles.
"Aunt Linda, it's okay. I understand" Charles said.
"I'm just a country bumpkin and not suitable for participating in such an important lunch. If I cause any trouble for the group, I would feel very guilty" Charles replied with a smile.
Linda Logan also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Charles, it's great that you understand."
"So, how did the discussion go? Is the problem solved?" Charles asked.
If the trouble had already been resolved, he wouldn't have to meet with Samuel Reed tonight.
Linda nodded.
"Yes, Yvonne's classmate said that Mr Kenneth Reed from the Reed family has agreed to meet with us tonight. He said that if we give him ten million dollars, he will help us with the bank loan"
"This time, thanks to Yvonnes's classmate, or else your uncle and the others would have been in big trouble" Linda said thankfully.
Chu Lin, on the other hand, however, frowned.
"Auntie Linda, there's something I'm not sure if I should say. I think we should wait before giving the ten million dollars. It's not a small amount, and if Yvonne's classmate or Kenneth Reed can't be trusted, then the money will be wasted," Charles kindly reminded her.
Linda Logan was taken aback.
"It shouldn't be a problem. Today, Yvonne's classmate seemed sincere and it wasn't like he was trying to deceive us."
Charles shook his head.
"But what if he was also deceived? Anyway, let Uncle James investigate first, especially the relationship between Kenneth Reed and the Tristan Group's chairman, Marcel Tristan Ridge"
"Better safe than sorry," he added.
"Okay, I'll go tell your uncle" Linda said, starting to worry.
Without delay, she left the room to find her husband, James Logan.
In the living room, James Logan and his daughter Yvonne Logan were making phone calls to raise the money.
Linda Logan took advantage of the situation and told them what Charles Wellington had said.
However, neither Yvonne Logan or her father took it to heart. They just gave a perfunctory response of "I know."
"James, I think what Charles said makes sense. You should investigate it seriously" Linda urged.
James Logan suddenly became angry.
"What? Do you think my knowledge is inferior to that of a worthless country bumpkin?" he retorted.
"My daughter and I have been running the company for many years. We've seen all kinds of conspiracies and tricks. Do we still need him to remind us? Enough, it's none of your business. Don't bother us. You can leave now if you have nothing important to say" James said, driving Linda Logan out of the living room.
Yvonne also didn't pay attention to Charles's words.
Gerald Wayne was her classmate, and she didn't think he would deceive her. Instead, she felt that Charles Wellington was speaking ill of others behind their backs.
Soon, it was five o'clock in the evening. Yvonne Logan and her father walked out of the villa with the money they had prepared, waiting outside. They had arranged to meet Gerald Wayne here and then go to the banquet at Royale Hotel together. This time, in addition to Gerald Wayne, Yvonne Logan also invited her two good girlfriends, Sara Owen and Gwen Ryder. Gwen Ryder was a senior executive in her company, so it was reasonable for her to go. Sara Owen, on the other hand, had no intention of participating in this dinner, but Yvonne Logan and Gwen Ryder insisted that she come along.
"Come on Sara, you're always at home, when will you find a partner?"
"You need to go out more, socialize and meet more people."
"Who knows, you might meet a wealthy and eligible bachelor."
"At this banquet, I'll help you look for someone suitable."
"It's been so many years since we graduated, my sister has had seven or eight boyfriends, but you're still single, I'm worried for you!"
Gwen Ryder and Yvonne Logan didn't hide their intentions to help Sara Owen find a partner.
"Yes, Sara. You're so beautiful and talented, only someone from the Reed family can match you."
"The chance to have dinner with the Reed family is hard to come by."
Yvonne Logan said once more.
Of the three friends, if one had to say who had the best conditions, it was Sara Owen.
She was the school flower in high school, and now she was a promising little star in the entertainment industry, and came from a well to do family.
With these conditions, there were indeed few men in the entire Orange county city who could match her.
While the three best friends were still talking, Charles Wellington also walked out of the villa.
Charles smiled inexplicably at Sara Owen when he saw her.
This little beauty with a mole on her chest left a deep impression on him.
Sara's pretty face immediately turned red.
"Hmm?"
"What are you doing here?" Gwen Ryder asked disdainfully.
"Why are you so worked up. If you must know someone invited me to dinner, do I need your approval before going out?" Charles replied with a smile.
"Really? You? Who would invite you to dinner?" Gwen looked at him with contempt.
"Alright, Gwen. Gerald and my father's cars have arrived, we should leave now."
Yvonne ignored Charles Wellington and urged her friend to get into the car.
Watching them leave, Charles shook his head helplessly. He didn't know if James Logan and his team had found anything in their investigation. But when he saw Kenneth Reed and Marcel Ridge appear together at the Reed family's house yesterday, he began to suspect that the two were colluding to deceive the Logan family.
"I hope I'm just overthinking it." Charles said still hoping that Yvonne and her family could get through this difficult time smoothly.
After all, they were the descendants of Patrick Logan and the Logan Group was created by him.
Even if it was just to repay a favor, Charles Wellington hoped that the Logan family could pass through this storm. So, he waited outside the villa area alone for a while.
Soon, Melissa Quinton's car arrived on time. The car door opened, and Melissa's cold and arrogant voice called out.
"Get in the car, I'll take you to see Samuel Reed."
