The room was thick with antiseptic in the air as the sunlight from outside casted a blinding light through the tightly shut curtains and into the dark room. Stella stared blankly at her phone screen as she looked at the unanswered messages she had sent to her husband. she pressed the call button as she put the phone to her ear, but still no reply.
she couldn't help but worry as she thought that something bad had happened .She was suppose to be discharged three days ago and it was already the third day and she still hadn't heard from her husband.
She quickly scanned through her phone as she switched contact ,this time she tried calling Rachel-her best friend, Stella didn't want to bother her because she heard she was seriously sick and even bedridden, but she couldn't think of anyone else to reach out to, except Rachel. But just like her husband Rachel was also not picking up.
Now she was seriously worried, if Rachel can't pick up her phone then she must be seriously sick. she decided to leave on her own, the doctors had already signed her discharge papers, but she needed someone to assist her. But since there was no one she decide to leave on her own, she didn't want to stay another night in the hospital.
She changed into her normal clothes and packed her things up as she made her way to the elevator and out of the hospital, the cold air sent a shiver down her spine, signaling that the winter had already begun and also reminding her of how long it had being since she stepped out of the hospital
She raised her hand ass she tried to signal a yellow taxi about passing bye. The taxi had stopped in front of her. The old man in the drivers seat taking a glance at her and giving her a puzzling look. before he asked her a question.
"Where to?" he asked, his voice sounding so husky but gentle and kind.
Stella taking a good look at the old man and noticing his saggy eye bags and face covered in wrinkles as she slid into the back seat.
"I'd like to go to east west avenue please." she finally answered.
As the car sped away going to her location Stella stared blankly at the scenery outside, she looked almost as if it was her first time out side .She thought of how long she had being in the hospital ,and how she missed being outside and breathing in the fresh air instead of the chocking air of antiseptics that filled the hospital.
She had noticed the driver passing sneaky glances at her through the rear view mirror as if wanting to say something. Is every thing ok sir? Stella asked the old man.
The old man hesitated for a moment before he finally asked his question," Umm sorry to ask but.....don't you have anyone to assist you to where your going or maybe pick you up, you really don't look strong enough to be walking around on your own, I'm just curios so please don't take offense.
Stella forced a small smile, even though she knew the man was right and his words made her feel sad. "I guess you are right but it's ok, You see I am on my way to see my best friend she is terribly bedridden , so I wanted to check up on her and then I would meet up with my husband." The driver looked at her with worried gaze , before he turned his head back to the road.
"I see...that is very nice of you, even when you look so sick and just left the hospital you are already worrying about others before yourself, very kind I must say...but, I'd advice you look after your self first, I don't know you , but you seem like a nice young lady, so please before you worry about others think of yourself first. And just as the old man finished talking the cab came to a stop.
This made Stella look outside the window and she noticed she had reached her destination...she stepped out of the car and turning to the old man and flashing a warm smile, thank you sir I'd take your advice, she said as she reached for her coat pocket to pay for the ride , but the driver quickly rejected it, Oh no need miss it's on the house, he said with a warm smile. Stella could only smile back before turning to leave.
She made her way into the compound and straight to the second story of he building, on getting to Rachel's frontage she noticed it was unkept and covered in dust which was strange. Rachel was the type to always sweep away the dirt on her front door.
She ignored it and proceeded to knock on the door but after a minute or 2 had passed it seemed even more strange , no one was answering the door ,this made Stella Panic even more. Today was a Sunday so Rachel can't possibly be at work and with how much she knew about Rachel she always stays indoors on Sundays. She tried calling Rachel again but she still wasn't answering her phone, not knowing who to call or reach out to, she made her way downstairs and out of the building complex as she immediately hailed a cab, taking her back to her house, hoping her husband would be around to welcome her, while in the cab she tried reaching her husband, his phone rang a couple times but he wasn't picking up, she found it weird but couldn't think of a reason why he wouldn't pick her calls.
some minutes later she had arrived at her apartment, making her way up the stairs, she had to take breaks when she started feeling pain in her back until she had finally made her way to her front door.
Standing in front of her home felt so nostalgic.
"I can't even remember how many months It's been since I was last home", she said to her self ,hesitating to open door in front of her.
She finally opened the door, but was immediately stuck in her path as something on the entrance caught her attention.
"HuH....? These are the heels....I got for Rachel on her birthday last year...."What ...are they doing here? Stella was lost in thought, but was quickly pulled out of her thought when she heard a familiar voice.
"And after I get my deposit and this months promotion pay check, let's move somewhere else."
Stella froze in shock, as she realized who's voice it was. The voice belonged to Micheal -her husband... but who was he talking to, and before she could even think of who it could be she noticed several items on the floor and they were all Women's clothing.
Stella was to stunned to say anything as she creaked closer and closer to the slightly opened door.
Another voice spoke out ,but she could tell it was a woman's voice and she immediately knew who it belonged to. Stella trembled as the realization hit her of what was going on, as she finally took a look into the slightly opened room, to see her beloved husband and best friend naked and wrapped around each others arms as they lay on her bed.
