Marco walked back to the front of the ship where Darren sat making the final preparations. "Tyson did 'take care' of the two fissures, whatever that means." Darren nodded, "Nothing we can do about it other than report them as closed." Marco held Darren's shoulder, he took a deep breath and sighed, "We are reporting them as simply altered activity, while not common, it's possible." Darren looked down at the hand on his shoulder and then back at Marco, with a raised eyebrow and a concerned tone, he said "You wanna keep this under wraps?" Marco nodded, Darren looked hesitant but he agreed.
"Plot course to the ravine." Said Marco. The Ravine was a weak spot between the material plane and the other side. Deep in the void, it was constantly moving so they had to track it. With newer technologies, it was as simple as plotting where it would be at a certain point and await it there. Darren approached the console and set their destination to there, the ship spun around, pointing away from the parallel. It accelerated slowly, picking up speed as it drifted off into the void.
Marco stepped outside, leaving Darren inside alone, he went downstairs to the locker area, no one was there. He turned around and stepped towards the wall, it slid open revealing the gym. Kailey was alone inside, shoulder pressing 50kg dumbbells on each hand. Her motions were effortless, with seemingly no struggle other than her furrowing face as she huffed and puffed with each rep. She finished her set, placing them down at her sides and drinking from her water bottle. Her entire outfit was sweaty from the heavy working out she was doing. Carriers were the strongest of the bunch, they were the ones who had to do all the heavy lifting for the team. They maybe weren't the fastest and maybe not the smartest, but they were quick on their feet and a crucial part of the team. She stood up and walked towards Marco.
"I don't trust Tyson." She said very bluntly, "but you already know that. Now I'm not the captain and being up here is cozy and all, but I don't think bringing him back home is the move." Marco was almost stunned at this statement after what happened last night. "YOU were the first one to speak out and say that we should sit here on the ship. We don't really know what consequences it will bring to take Tyson back home, if there is any. Hell, we may even be hailed as heroes." Kailey looked up at the ceiling, thinking of what to say, "I guess that Bodhi's arm was only chopped and reattached of by his majesty's benevolence." She gave Marco a mean mug as she walked out of the gym. As she went out, Cooper came in.
"Sup Marco" they gave each other a fist bump, "You gonna get a quick workout in?" Despite being the weakest of the bunch, fixers were still tasked with staying fit, far more than the average person. He had one earbud in, the other one blared loud drumming as it hung from the neck of his shirt. Marco shook his head, "just checking in on how everyone is doing post op." Cooper stepped up onto a treadmill and started off with a walk, "Could be worse. At least I'm not dead." Marco watched as he turned up the speed, he asked "What exactly happened in the fissure?" Cooper jogged and answered "Exactly as I told you last night, however I may be misremembering some details since I hit my head and passed out for a bit afterwards."
Marco stared at him for a bit before asking, "How did you know we had to be quiet? At no point did you mention how you came to that conclusion." Cooper jogged and simply stared in front of him. It took him a while, he frowned, "I'm not sure, I guess that being inside that fissure, it felt as though some massive creature was looming inside, looking for me, and the only way I could hide is if I was silent." Marco lifted an eyebrow, "and how did this 'feel' to you?" Cooper hopped and placed his feet on the sides of the treadmill, he bowed his head down and looked at Marco, "an unsurmountable fear. Like the gut feeling that you are about to die." He continued jogging, Marco nodded and turned to leave the gym. "I'm not sure how you feel about Tyson, but when we get back, I'll do all the talking, got it?" "Yes sir!" Cooper yelled out as Marco left the room.
As he climbed the ladder to get back up, Bodhi and Kailey were having a discussion. Bodhi nodded and Kailey walked away. He approached Marco, "so what's going on kid?" Marco looked up, "A lot of thinking, that's what." Bodhi scoffed and chuckled. "It doesn't take a genius to see that neither you nor Darren are really in control in this situation." He whispered almost huskily, his beard covering up his mouth completely. Marco didn't have an answer to that, "We got as much confidence in Tyson as any of you." Bodhi laughed loudly and shook his head, walking past him and climbing down the ladder, "Confidence, he says." He disappeared downstairs.
Marco headed back to the dining room, his stomach grumbled, he reached into the back of fridge and pulled out a tuna sandwich. He peeked inside, they were almost out of proper food at this point. Darren stepped inside with his tablet, "Two day travel time, we will be there a couple of hours early for the jump." Marco nodded and placed his sandwich in the microwave, he sat down on one of the chairs and kicked his feet up on the table. Darren frowned at him then looked back at the microwave, "you seriously need to stop microwaving that stuff. It stinks up the place." He headed to the quarters and walked into his room.
The smell of tuna filled the dining room, Marco looked towards the ceiling and took a deep whiff. He loved the smell, it reminded him of home.
