The old man smiled as he saw a little girl arrive at his stand, it made his eyes soften and then think about his daughter, when the girl arrived she asked for bread.
Since he was feeling generous, he only charged her two silver coins and gave her a cup of warm milk. "Uhm, sir I only asked for bread and making your customers buy things without their choice is bad.."
The old man chuckled. "It's free, a young girl like you should drink a lot of milk so your bones become stronger and you can grow better."
The girl hesitated, the old man saw she didn't really look convinced. "Don't worry, I only saw my daughter in you, that's why I am giving you this."
Fell was not used to such kindness from strangers...and it seems she was being helped by a lot of strangers these days, she sighed and then looked at the old man, he didn't look like a bad person she guess it was alright and he was doing this out of goodwill too. "Well, thank you sir."
Fell didn't know what else to say except that, the man smiled. "No worries, go finish before it becomes cold."
Fell did not mind...but who sells milk in the middle of the streets?.
Fell took a cautious sip of the warm milk, finding it surprisingly comforting despite her initial suspicion. It wasn't too sweet or rich, just enough to soothe the slight chill in the air. The old man continued tending to his stall, humming a soft tune as he arranged fresh loaves.
As Fell munched on the bread, she couldn't help but notice how peaceful the scene was. The townsfolk moved about their day, chatting and laughing, unaware of the dangers lurking beyond the safety of the town. For a moment, she let herself relax, savoring the simple pleasure of a warm meal.
She glanced at the old man again, curiosity getting the better of her. "Do you always sell milk here? Seems a bit... unusual."
The old man let out a hearty laugh. "Oh, I get that a lot! Truth is, I used to be a farmer before moving here. Had a few cows back then. Even now, I keep one just outside town, for old times' sake. Folks around here don't mind since they love the fresh milk, and I've got a knack for keepin' her healthy."
Fell couldn't help but feel a bit impressed. "That's... nice. It's rare to see livestock so close to town."
"Aye, well, not everyone's fond of it, but most don't complain when they get a warm cup like you did," the old man replied with a wink. "And I suppose I just like to keep busy. Feels strange not havin' something to take care of."
Fell looked down at her cup, a strange feeling stirring in her chest. "Taking care of something, huh..."
As she finished her meal, she gave the cup back to the old man. "Thanks for that, I'll see you later sir."
The old man waved as he saw Fell walk away. He was glad to serve young adventurers striving for greater purpose and he also does it since he thinks young people should eat more.
Fell walked around the town to relax, fighting a slime was a good way to train...but it was also risky but she also does not want to fight opponents faster than her, black wolves for example would beat her to submission if she was surrounded by a pack. If it was one or three she could handle herself.
Fell sighed. "What a drag, Adjusting to this new life is annoying."
"Oh really, I mean Silick may seem overwhelming at first but don't let that get to you Fell." Fell turned and saw Nyla behind her, she wasn't there before so how did she silently walk behind her...at the thought of that ..Fell felt insecure, was everyone like that.
She shaked her head before she fell into a trance of paranoia. "Hey Nyla and yes I guess it's a bit overwhelming, so how's your day going."
Nyla chuckled and patted her head. "Not too bad, today is my rest day so I just go to the training grounds to stretch my body I am also joining on the slime raid tomorrow."
The slime raid...Fell sighed, she felt she wasn't ready to face the slimes, she had a limited amount of cards but at the moment she was also the arch enemies of slimes so it doesn't mean she can't hold her own. But what if another threat beside slimes appear.
That was what Fell feared, a terrifying monster immune to all her current abilities appears and then she's defeated within mere moments, she feared death even if she has not experienced it yet she still feared it. "Yeah, I am in Maris's party."
Nyla's eyes widened then she grinned, her tail wagged showing her apparent excitement. "Me too?!" Though I am but skeptical letting a level one like you go-."
"Level two actually".
Nyla rolled her eyes. "Ok, but I still don't think you should go."
"You definitely want me to go but you just don't want to lose another friend do you?." Nyla's ears dropped slightly. "That's a reasonable fear?!"
Fell chuckled. "I know but I have to go so I can grow strong, if you don't want to perish become strong so you don't."
Nyla helplessly sighed. "Well if I can't stop you from coming, I'll just have to make sure you are close to me at all times."
Fell tilted her head and blinked, some people on the streets almost fell when they looked at her. "You don't really have to do that."
Nyla looked at the small girl in front of her, she was short, weak, defenseless and looked naive, and she was definitely not going to let her out of her sight. "Nope, I will and I must, as a friend it is the right thing to do."
Fell sighed, she gently pulled Nyla's hand from her head. "Fine but stop giving me a pat on the head every time you get the chance!!."
Nyla grinned. "I can't help it, you're just too cute."
Fell grumbled under her breath. "I'm not cute, but thanks for worrying about me."
Nyla didn't reply, but the smile on her face was reassuring, Fell really did feel a conne from her and she was worried about that, should she really get attached to other people. She then sighed, it wasn't a sin if she did, her family was now on earth and she was..here, so she should just forget about the past and look ahead into the future.
She was sure her family was fine, thinking about that made her want to cry again so she stopped.
Nyla gave her a curious look then slightly crouched to meet her eyes. "Hey, you look like you want to cry."
"It's nothing, I think I have dust on my eyes, dodging slimes isn't fun." It really wasn't, one second you are staying still the next a giant mass of gelatinous ball was about to descend down on you.
"Huh, ok, so are you going on another quest?, it's my free day so I can help a bit." Nyla said happily.
Fell didn't want to use her to complete quest but she needed new cards. "I will repair this favor one day, Help me take on the Black Horned wolf quest."
Nyla stood up and stretched. "No need for favors, I am just helping a friend, black wolves are level 5 creatures, slightly stronger than slimes but are weak either way, if they are in a pack it may bring some trouble."
"But would you get defeated." Fell asked with a curious tone.
Nyla smirked and flexed her muscles. "It would take 40 Black wolves to take me down."
Fell giggled at her enthusiasm. "Ok let's go to the guild."
Soon the two girls made their way to the adventures guild. When they walked in they went to the quest board and took the subjugation quest for 20 black horned wolves.
Upon arriving Lynn curiously looked at the two girls. "Little Nyla and Fell are together, I never thought that could happen, are you guys going on a joint quest together, the reward for this one is 1 silver coin for each horn you bring."
"Hey Lynn, I am helping Fell do her second quest of the day." Nyla proudly placed a hand on her hips.
Fell rolled her eyes. "She's just treating me like her little sister, don't mind it."
Nyla's eyes lit up. "Oh, the. Call me big sis from now on."
Fell gave her a deadpan look. "No" She then smiled. " but having you as a big sis wouldn't sound bad. Anyways let's forget about this and go ahead with the quest."
Nyla wanted to continue the conversation but she just patted her head again making Fell Pout once again.
