The girl's black ponytail swayed to the sides as she walked towards them. From one look, she appeared to be about Jack's age, maybe a little younger.
Roughly 5'4", the girl had a sharp, no-nonsense look on her face. While not tall, her features were impeccable. A slim waist, long legs, and curves in all the right places. She even wore a white crop top that showed off her toned midriff and tight jeans, showing that she made an effort to stay in shape.
"Why will I reject the investor? Am I a fool?"
The old man crossed his arms before rolling his eyes. However, the granddaughter was having one of it.
"Why won't you?" she asked. "This is the nineteenth time! I need investors to turn this dump into something useful! Why does stupid test matter so much to you!?"
Meanwhile, Mehra joined Jack, acting clueless, just like he was. Back when he inquired about the business, the young lady, Mira, came up as the owner. He did not know who the old man was and what stake did he have in the business.
"I thought the old man was the owner," Jack told Mehra. "He even gave me a test to prove my worth."
"Eh? That's strange. I noticed nothing about the man on the listings."
"I'm so sorry for whatever the old geezer did to you."
While they were talking, the lady walked over to them, apologizing for her grandfather's behavior. Before Jack could say anything, the old man cut her off.
"What's there to apologize for? If you know nothing about vehicles, then you're not qualified to own a garage! It's plain logic."
"Logic or not, you have no business interfering in my life! Why do you think I wanted to do my own thing away from the family business? You can't always keep controlling me, grandpa!"
"It's called protection, you silly child. The world isn't all rainbows and sunshine."
"How will I know that if you keep showing me rainbows all my life?"
It looked like the old man was about to argue more, but he stopped when Mira frowned. It seemed he loved his granddaughter too much and didn't want to upset her.
It would also explain why he was so protective of the business. His granddaughter owned it and the old man probably didn't want her to contact the wrong people who would take advantage of her.
Jack looked at Mira. She was attractive, to say the least. If people knew she was looking for investors, many people with ill intentions might step up to take advantage of their financial issues.
Perhaps that was the reason the old man had set up a test. It was not to help the garage, but to also protect Mira.
He's like a sly old fox.
As Jack was lost in his thoughts, a black limo pulled up in front. Two people dressed in black suits walked out before greeting the old man and Mira.
"Good evening, Master. Good evening, young lady."
They said in unison, completely ignoring Jack and Mehra. It was fine since the two of them were confused by the scene in front of their eyes.
One of the men handed a suit jacket to the old man before opening the door for him. Meanwhile, the other stood by Mira's side like a bodyguard.
…he's a rich guy. I should have known.
The car in the garage was old, but a classic, probably belonged to the old man's collection. He was working on it, perhaps wanting to give Mira her first bit of business.
From their banter, Jack had a rough picture of what was going on.
Mira was a spoiled princess who was tired of being coddled and wanted to do something of her own. But the ever loving grandfather wanted to help her and got rid the problematic individuals to protect her.
Grandpa must have wanted to fund the garage as well, but Mira most likely declined, citing her independence.
Since they look to be from an influential family, there would be many who would use Mira to get close to the old man.
Perhaps that was why the old man tested the potential investors and rejected before Mira could get in contact with them. He wanted to make sure no one shady got close to her.
Unfortunately for the old man, the shadiest man in the history was standing before him and he was oblivious to it.
However, Jack didn't think the situation would last for too long. The old man would most certainly run a background check on him, considering how much he doted on Mira. He shouldn't find much, considering what happened when Jack was arrested. Even so, there was a chance that things could go wrong.
Jack wanted the bike more than the garage, but was a bike worth pushing his luck? The old man would probably get him killed if there were some records left or if the cops volunteered information about Jack's past.
Let's… get out of here. I can get the bike from somewhere else as long as I'm alive.
Just then, the old man turned to look at him before pointing at his watch.
"Be here at 10 a.m. sharp," he said. "Or the deal's off. And don't even think about not showing up."
"…?"
Jack was confused. The old man wanted him to show up for the deal, but then also warned him not to backdown from the deal? What the hell was wrong with him?
"You can't do that!"
The old man smiled and got into the limo before winking at Mira.
"Is there anything in this world that I can't do?" he smiled, rolling up the window.
Just like that, the car pulled away, leaving Mira frustrated and Jack baffled at what had just happened.
