Chapter 1 - A Cold Awakening In The Darkness

✵ AOIFE BELLE COSMO ✵

PLINK!

Mhm...

What's that sound?

PLINK! PLINK!

Augh... I groaned as I hear the echoes of water dripping in the background.

PLINK!

Hhh!... I gasped as I felt a droplet of water land on my face.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and saw what appears to be dark rocks and earth above me, resembling the pointed ceiling of a cave, from which water dripped down.

Augh... I groaned as I struggled to sit up since for some bizarre reason, my body ached.

"Mhm... What's going on?" I asked myself, since I couldn't recall what had happened before this.

I rubbed my hands against my face and brushed my hair back.

With my hair brushed back, I could clearly see what lay before me: a large body of water just beneath my feet.

Wait, I'm barefoot?

Where are my shoes?

Panic surged through me as I realized that even my clothes were disheveled.

"Ouh my! What happened to me?" I wondered aloud, my heart racing. "Why can't I remember anything though?"

The fragments of my memory seemed to slip away like sand through my fingers, leaving me bewildered and uncertain in the darkness of the cave.

Suddenly, a realization struck me.

I scrambled through the damp earth, my hands sinking into the cold mud as I hurried toward the still pool, desperate to catch a glimpse of my reflection.

My very instinct urged me to see what had become of my face, my heart pounding in anticipation and dread.

As I approached, I wondered if my disheveled appearance extended to my face as well.

Ouh ghad...

When I finally looked into the water, I was met not with the perfect image I once knew, but with a sight transformed: my hair, damp and unruly, and my face smeared with mud.

Yet, amid the chaos, my eyes remained a striking amethyst, glimmering like golden stars against a deepening night.

"No way! Mom will kill me if she sees me like this," I thought, my heart racing with panic. "I must clean myself—fast!"

Without giving it a second thought, I leaped into the cool water, the shock of it sending a shiver through me.

I scrubbed furiously at the mud that clung stubbornly to my hair and skin, feeling the weight of my worries beginning to lift.

When I finally emerged, gasping for air, I took a moment to appreciate the sight before me.

My vibrant pink long, curly hair dripped water like a cascading waterfall, stretching down to the ground, even longer now.

I glanced back at the pool and saw my familiar reflection; my once-flawless, rosy skin had returned, glistening under the dim light.

"Phew! All better now," I told myself firmly. But I still need to be neat, no matter the chaos around me.

Sigh. It escaped my lips as I recalled my mother's expectations.

Under my mother's strict influence and her emphasis on vanity, I find myself burdened with overwhelming expectations and roles to fulfill.

I feel compelled to maintain an image of perfection at all costs.

But just then, a cold breeze swept over my wet body, making me shiver.

"Ugh, it's freezing!" I muttered, rubbing my arms for warmth. "If there's a wind, then surely there's an exit."

A flicker of hope ignited within me. "Better go and find my way out of here, I can't just stay idle."

With determination, I stood tall, shaking the last droplets of water from my hair and setting my sights on the source of the breeze.

"I can do this," I whispered to myself, pushing through the lingering doubt that threatened to creep back in.
