...
"Stop staring at me. It's annoying!"
I say, sounding clearly annoyed, as I talk to the person sitting on the couch across from me. He's silently following my every move. And he just keeps moving his legs back and forth like a kid who can't stop.
I yell at him, but he doesn't even blink.
"That's it! I'll take you to the police station, and they'll take care of you!"
I get up from the kitchen chair and run over to him. I grab his hoodie and yank him up and out.
He keeps fighting, and he finally gets free by biting my arm really hard. I let go because it hurts, and I yell. "You beast!"
He runs and hides in the bathroom, slams the door, and turns the key.
Great, now I'm the one on the offensive.
It takes all my willpower not to do something rash.
Like killing him and burying him in the backyard.
"Get out of there, Evander or whoever you are. I won't take you to the police station, don't be afraid."
I say in a calm tone, unlike the volcanic eruptions that erupt inside me and receive only silence.
I think I'm about to do something illegal.
I stand still and wait for his reaction.
"Okay ,you're not going to be locked in there forever."
I say sarcastically and leave, but his quiet voice stops me. I turn back to the door.
"You won't do that, will you?"
I smile a little and shove my hands into my pants pockets.
"I won't."
Yes, I am.
"Well, I'm going to trust you, Mr. William."
The door opens slowly, and there he is, standing in front of me with his head down and his fingers fidgeting.
Wait a minute, did he just say William?
I'm shocked, and I grab him by the collar of his shirt. I was just laughing at him a second ago, and now I'm totally freaked out.
"How'd you know my name, you idiot? I don't remember telling you!" I yell, waiting for an explanation, and he just stares at me with widened eyes and a look of horror on his face.
"Answer the question!"
No, God, please tell me he's not going to cry again. Why is he so sensitive?
I keep staring into his teary eyes, and my features soften.
It's like he's influencing my behavior and mood just with his gaze.
I have this weird feeling, but I can't put my finger on it.
Is he hypnotizing me?
Is he using it as a defense mechanism?
I'm not sure!
Right now, I just know I should try not to make eye contact with him as much as possible, even though I'm not sure why.
Don't give in to him, William. It's a trap!
"Please don't hit Evander. Evander's nice and won't hurt you."
He dodges the question again and follows up with this stupid and provocative sentence.
I furrow my eyebrows and look at his lips, which are curled up in a big smile.
I knew he was schizophrenic.
Just a sec, I've got an idea on how to get rid of him for ever.
"Just sit there and don't move." I order, pointing my index finger at the floor. I put him to the test, and he nods lightly and squats on the floor.
What a complete idiot!
I hung up the phone, feeling a bit relieved, and secretly called to report a crazy guy escaping from a mental hospital.
I feel good.
I've been watching him for about half an hour now. The doorbell rings and I rush over to open it.
"He's here. Take him. I'm really tired." I point at him, talking to the people with the white aprons, and they all look at the empty place.
Where did he go?
I bite my lower lip, and I can almost feel the blood boiling inside my head. I'm really not in the mood to play hide and seek.
"Evander! If you don't show up, I'll blow your empty head off and gouge your eyes out, and I'm not kidding!" I scream impatiently, staring at every corner of the house, waiting for a shadow to appear, but nothing.
I can feel the stares of the hospital workers penetrating me.
I'm probably a bit over the top for someone who's out of his mind.
"Let's split up and look for him." I tell them, and I start searching with them.
We're looking for about a quarter of an hour, leaving no corner unturned.
Still, there's no sign of that guy.
It's like he just vanished into thin air.
"The most likely possibility is that he escaped from the house." One of the workers finally throws in the towel, as did everyone else and myself.
"Really?
I say with a smile that almost reaches my ears and there they are again, staring at me quizzically.
"I mean, really?" I quickly manage to fake a look of shock on my face, rubbing the back of my head with a fake frown.
I got rid of him.
...
Pov: Evander,
"Uncle William's bed is really comfy." I say in a soft voice so he doesn't feel me before I rest my head on his soft pillow and lay on my side.
I'm watching the little fairy in front of me, sprinkling blue glitter from her tiny wings over everything in the room. "Eva, seriously, stop it. You're making me dizzy."
I let out a bored sigh, complaining that she never listens to me, even though I'm her owner.
She's a part of me. She's been there since I was born. You could say she's my invisible guardian.
I blink twice as I stare at the smile on her lips.
After crossing her arms, she says. "I'm proud of you, Evander. The Queen allowed you to take on this mission, even though it's a tough one and you're new to it, and, you are stupid, and you're a bit spoiled."
My heart fluttered when Eva praised me for the first time.
But, of course, it's not without some insults.
I scowl as I roll over on the bed and turn my back on her. I love ignoring her as much as she does to me.
"What's wrong with Evander?" She comes up to me and sits on the pillow, tilting her head to get a better look at my face.
I'm not hiding anything from her anyway. I held up my index finger and motion for my friend to stand on it, and then I say. "That William, he scares me. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it."
The blue fairy purses her lips, then answers as she comes back to me and gives the tip of my nose a sweet kiss.
I love it when she shows this sweet side of her.
"Everything's gonna be fine. I'm on your side, and I won't let him send you to the mental hospital."
"Eva, that's not funny."
She laughs, and I grab her by the feet and make her dangle upside down.
I can't help but laugh at her angry face.
But I stop abruptly when the door opens unexpectedly.
He's watching me again after I disappeared out of nowhere, playing with a fairy just like the ones he's heard about in fairy tales.
I understand.
We're exchanging glances until he passes out.
It's too much for a human being to comprehend.
