Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Hope

'BANG!'

["Ghk!"]

A bullet pierced my heart, crimson blood splattering across the floor.

He leaped over the counter and shot me with a self-defense handgun. The noise of the gunshot almost made me deaf.

"Fuck! I—I had to do this, an adult will put your money in good hands. You wouldn't have used it properly anyway!"

I clutched my bleeding chest as I crumpled onto the ground in pain.

"It'll-... it will be fine. Just close your eyes and go to sleep. Shh!"

The cashier seemed as if he were the one in pain instead of me. It was infuriating, horrible, absolutely unfair.

It hurt, it hurt so much. Was this the price I had to pay for having a big ego? But that isn't my fault, is it?

["H—help! Help, help me..."]

My vision began to darken, and my heart thumped in my chest with the pain only increasing my fear of death.

If only he had shot my aorta and gave me a way to leave without suffering. Fuck this all!

I didn't want to go like this.

"Agh! G-get away! Don't touch my leg, stop!"

I still had countless years ahead of me. I had just become a millionaire–!

My first time getting so lucky, too. Wasn't it fate and God's will that I won so much money?

["I don't—I don't want to die. I wasn't supposed to die..."]

I thought I had become the main character of the world. I was definitely destined to continue living for a long, long time.

["..."]

Everything around me faded into nothingness, and the only comfort I received was the ringing in my ears.

"H-hah. Hah! Worth it, it's all going to be worth it. I'll be rich too...!"

This was my cruel reality. I'm really going to die by the hands of some employee being paid minimum-wage.

For a moment, there was silence. It was expected. I wanted to scream, wanted to curse the world one last time.

Seconds had passed, but I still had the ability to process my thoughts. I could not see anything, could not feel or speak – but I could think.

"Will I be like this forever?" It was the only question entrapping my mind. Sheer darkness, alone and cold, perhaps for the rest of eternity.

Tears came to flow, begs clawed at my throat, and my limbs roared to move once more. I wanted to force my body to get revenge and to feel air hit my skin.

Simultaneously, the space in front of the eyes I couldn't feel started to warp. It was as if my ability to see was creeping back to its owner.

Gray sludge dripped from a crack in the shattering sheet of black, revealing a blinding ray of pure light behind.

Although my body felt like an empty, wandering soul, I unconsciously craved to touch the glow's source.

The light seemed to listen as it pulled my consciousness towards its embrace, eager to let me feel warmth in my despair.

"If there's somebody there, please. Please don't let me die."
