Chapter 78 - Will Find Out the Truth

On Sunday, Wen Ran spent the entire day at the hospital with her brother. Mo Xiuchen had been busy with something, leaving in the morning and not returning until midnight.

On Monday morning, on the way to the pharmaceutical factory, Mo Xiuchen informed Wen Ran that he had sent Qin Mu on a business trip and that she would need to manage the company by herself for the time being.

Wen Ran was slightly taken aback but then smiled indifferently and said, "My brother is awake now. If I have any questions, I can ask him, so you don't need to have Assistant Qin help me anymore."

Mo Xiuchen was silent for a moment before nodding slightly. "That's good."

Wen Ran held a company-wide meeting to announce the good news of her brother waking up. Most of the employees were enthusiastic and filled with confidence about the factory's future. However, Zhou Mingfu was gritting his teeth in hatred.

A flash of malice crossed his eyes as he looked at Wen Ran, and his sinister thoughts grew even stronger.

Catching Zhou Mingfu's dark expression from the corner of her eye, Wen Ran smirked inwardly before turning to Li Qian beside her.

"Sister Li, to celebrate my brother's recovery, let's give every employee a bonus."

Li Qian nodded with a smile and announced the news over the microphone. The room immediately erupted in applause.

Mo Xiuchen leaned back in his luxurious office chair, his cold gaze fixed on Cheng Jia, who stood in front of his desk. "You don't know what happened to you that night?"

Cheng Jia furrowed her brows and blinked in confusion, her voice delicate and frail. "I don't know. I just remember feeling really hot and uncomfortable. Mo Shao, why did I feel like that? I searched online last night, and it said that my symptoms were caused by being drugged with… that kind of substance?"

Mo Xiuchen suddenly sat up straight, his sharp eyes flashing dangerously. Cheng Jia couldn't withstand his piercing gaze and instinctively looked away, lowering her head as she murmured, "Mo Shao, it was my first time at your house, and something like that happened… Luckily, I was with you. Otherwise, I don't even dare to imagine what could have happened…"

Her implication was clear—she wanted an explanation.

Mo Xiuchen's face darkened with frost as he said sternly, "Don't worry. I will investigate this matter thoroughly and get justice for you."

Seeing his cold expression, Cheng Jia quickly explained, "Mo Shao, I didn't mean to blame you. In that situation, I'm very grateful that you threw me into the cold water instead of using… other methods to help me."

Mo Xiuchen's sharp brows furrowed slightly, his cold demeanor easing a little as he replied indifferently, "You are my lifesaver. How could I possibly let anything happen between you and Xiao Liu while you were unconscious?"

Cheng Jia's face turned pale, her eyes widening in shock. When she met Mo Xiuchen's piercing gaze, she swallowed back the words she had intended to say.

"You don't look well. You don't need to work today—go home and rest. Are you still feeling unwell?"

Not wanting to continue the conversation, Mo Xiuchen subtly issued a dismissal.

At his words, Cheng Jia immediately pressed a hand to her forehead, pretending to be weak. "Mo Shao, my head hurts so much. Can you take me to the hospital?"

"Wait on the sofa for a moment."

Mo Xiuchen glanced at her and replied calmly.

"Alright."

Thinking he was about to accompany her to the hospital, Cheng Jia's heart leaped with joy. But just as she was about to smile, Mo Xiuchen picked up the phone and dialed the security office.

"Send someone to my office."

Two minutes later, a young security guard knocked on the door and respectfully greeted, "Mo Shao!"

Mo Xiuchen glanced at Cheng Jia, who was seated on the sofa, and instructed in a deep voice, "Miss Cheng is feeling unwell. Take her to the hospital and ensure she gets home safely afterward."

On the sofa, Cheng Jia's expression changed drastically. She stood up abruptly. "Mo Shao, you're not going with me?"

"I have an important client to meet," Mo Xiuchen replied briefly. Then, he turned to the security guard, who immediately walked over to Cheng Jia.

"Miss Cheng, are you able to walk? Would you like me to assist you?"

"No need. I can walk by myself."

Cheng Jia pressed her lips together tightly, forcing herself to maintain her composure as she walked out in her three-inch heels.

Afternoon

At four o'clock, Li Qian walked into Wen Ran's office, her face glowing with excitement.

"Ranran, I have some good news for you."

"What good news?"

Wen Ran looked up from her documents, surprised.

"I just got word—Zhou Mingfu was in a car accident."

Wen Ran's clear eyes widened in astonishment. "Wasn't Zhou Mingfu on his way to the hospital to visit my brother? How did he get into a car accident?"

Li Qian quickly walked to the desk and placed the documents down, grinning. "He got into an accident on his way back from the hospital. Apparently, he fractured his lower leg. Ranran, why don't you seem happy? This is karma catching up with him!"

"I'm not unhappy. How did you find out about this?"

Wen Ran smiled faintly. She wasn't indifferent to the news—she was just reminded of the tragic accident that had taken her parents' lives not long ago.

"I overheard it in the purchasing department just now. He'll probably call you soon to inform you himself."

Since Zhao Chengnan from purchasing was Zhou Mingfu's man, it wasn't surprising that he'd be the first to know. Just as Li Qian finished speaking, Wen Ran's phone rang. She glanced at the screen—it was Zhou Mingfu.

"Hello?"

"Ranran, I was in a car accident just now. I need to take some time off."

On the other end of the line, Zhou Mingfu's voice carried traces of pain and lingering shock, different from his usual composed tone. Wen Ran deliberately feigned surprise. "Uncle Zhou, how did you get into an accident? Are you badly hurt?"

"I was careless and crashed into a roadside flowerbed. My right leg is fractured, so I'll need to rest for a while. Ranran, I'll leave the factory matters in your hands."

"Uncle Zhou, your recovery is the priority. Don't worry about the factory—I'll take care of everything."

"I was originally planning to accompany you to the pharmaceutical trade fair this Friday, but now I won't be able to go. I'll have A'Lin go with you instead."

"We'll see when the time comes," Wen Ran replied noncommittally, a slight frown appearing on her forehead.

After exchanging a few more polite words, she ended the call.

"Ranran, what did Zhou Mingfu say?"

Sensing the slight chill in Wen Ran's expression, Li Qian asked with concern.

Wen Ran signed a document before replying gently, "Zhou Mingfu is taking a leave of absence. He said he can't go to the trade fair, so he wants Zhou Lin to go with me instead."

"Ranran, if he can't go, don't agree to let Zhou Lin go with you!"

A subtle frown appeared on Wen Ran's forehead. Something felt off. Why did Zhou Mingfu suddenly get into a car accident and then voluntarily request time off? Something wasn't right.
