Wen Ran refused indifferently, "No need to trouble you. I'll take a taxi to the hospital, and Xiaoxiao can give me a ride back later."
"Ranran, let me take you!"
Mo Zixuan couldn't hold back any longer. He dropped his chopsticks and stood up abruptly.
Wen Ran was momentarily stunned, instinctively about to refuse, but Mo Xiuchen spoke faster than she did.
"You'd better send Zhou Lin instead. After all, she's about to become your wife."
"Ranran is already your wife, yet you don't even bother to take her!"
Mo Zixuan glared at Mo Xiuchen, his words sharp and confrontational.
"Zixuan, what are you saying? Your wedding date with A'Lin is set, and your brother still needs to discuss with your father when to schedule his wedding with Wen Ran…"
"I'll walk you out."
Mo Xiuchen ignored Xiao Wenqing's words, suddenly stood up, and took Wen Ran away with him.
Outside the hall, the night breeze blew against them. Mo Xiuchen took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh scent of grass and flowers, far more refreshing than the stifling air inside.
He instructed one of the Mo family's drivers to take Wen Ran to the hospital. Watching the car disappear into the night, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, Young Master!"
"Follow that car and make sure Young Madam arrives at the hospital safely."
"Yes, Young Master."
The person on the other end answered solemnly. Mo Xiuchen ended the call, his deep eyes flashing coldly before he turned back to the dining hall.
When Wen Ran reached the hospital room, she heard Bai Xiaoxiao's voice through the door.
"Jin-ge, Mo Xiuchen treats Ranran really well. You don't have to worry."
"No matter how good Mo Xiuchen is, he can't bring Ranran happiness."
Wen Jin's voice carried deep guilt.
Wen Ran's heart tightened. She quickly pushed the door open, beaming brightly as she greeted, "Ge, Xiaoxiao!"
"Ranran, why are you here so soon? Weren't you…"
Bai Xiaoxiao looked at her in surprise, thinking she wouldn't arrive until much later.
Wen Ran smiled, walked to the bedside, and glanced at the thermos container on the nightstand. "Ge, have you eaten?"
The moment Wen Ran entered, Wen Jin hid his earlier emotions. Though his face was still pale, he smiled gently, his eyes filled with unconcealed concern for his sister.
"Mm."
"Ranran, since you're here now, I don't need to stay. I'll head off first."
Bai Xiaoxiao seemed to have something urgent. After telling Wen Ran, she turned to Wen Jin and said, "Jin-ge, I'll visit you again tomorrow." Then, she grabbed her bag and hurried out of the room.
"Ge, how long have you been awake?"
Now alone with her brother, Wen Ran felt slightly uneasy under his intense gaze. She forced a weak smile.
Wen Jin pressed his lips together and instead asked a different question. "Ranran, tell me the truth—does Mo Xiuchen really have an illness?"
Wen Ran's eyes flickered. Discussing this with her brother felt awkward. "Ge, you just woke up. You need to rest."
"Ranran, I already asked Xiaoxiao. She told me that after our accident, Mo Zixuan betrayed you and got together with Zhou Lin. To save the company, you married Mo Xiuchen. How could you be so foolish?"
Wen Jin's voice grew agitated, his head throbbing with pain as he furrowed his brows.
Wen Ran's expression changed instantly. She quickly reassured him, "Ge, don't get upset. Let me explain."
Wen Jin pressed his lips together, staring at her deeply. He spoke each word with conviction. "Father and Mother wouldn't want you to sacrifice your happiness for the company."
Her brother's words brought tears to Wen Ran's eyes. She hadn't told him the truth earlier precisely because she knew this would be his reaction.
Suppressing her emotions, she said softly, "Ge, I know you and our parents love me dearly. If it weren't to protect me, you wouldn't have been injured so badly. I also know that you'd rather let the company collapse than have me exchange my lifelong happiness for it."
"Then why were you so foolish?"
Wen Jin's voice was filled with heartache.
Wen Ran held his hands tightly, her clear eyes locking onto his. "Ge, Mo Xiuchen treats me well. His illness isn't as bad as the rumors say."
"You mean… you two have already…?"
Wen Jin's face darkened instantly, his gaze turning sharp and penetrating.
Understanding what he was implying, Wen Ran shook her head. "No, nothing has happened between us. I simply asked Dr. Gu, and he told me that Mo Xiuchen's condition is treatable. It's just that he's always disliked physical contact with women, which is why the rumors spread like that."
Wen Jin's eyes flickered with doubt.
He knew Mo Xiuchen—he was indeed known for avoiding women. However, whether it was as Wen Ran described was uncertain.
For years, the entire city believed Mo Xiuchen to be impotent. It was said that during his kidnapping years ago, he sustained an injury to his most vital area, a fact confirmed by medical experts. Even Mo Xiuchen himself had never denied it.
Yet, in the business world, no one dared mock him because he was ruthless and formidable.
"Ge, what are you thinking?"
Seeing her brother's silence, Wen Ran asked worriedly.
Wen Jin's expression softened slightly. He said faintly, "Ranran, now that I'm awake, I'll take over the company's responsibilities."
"Ge, your priority is recovering. Your legs won't heal in just three to five months. I've already learned how to manage the company. If there's anything I don't understand, I'll ask you for advice."
To Wen Ran, her brother's injuries were a result of protecting her during the accident. Until he fully recovered, she couldn't shake her guilt.
But Wen Jin didn't care about his legs. What troubled him most was knowing that his beloved sister had sacrificed her happiness for the company.
Mo Xiuchen and Cheng Jia left the Mo family estate at nine o'clock.
Xiao Liu was driving, while Mo Xiuchen and Cheng Jia sat in the backseat.
Just a few minutes into the ride, Cheng Jia started feeling hot and dizzy. She raised a hand to her temple and turned to Mo Xiuchen, about to speak.
But before she could, Mo Xiuchen's sharp voice commanded the driver, "Stop the car!"
Startled, Xiao Liu's hands trembled, and he swerved the steering wheel slightly before bringing the car to a halt.
The moment they stopped, Mo Xiuchen opened the door, stepped out, and swiftly pulled open the driver's side door.
"You move to the back seat."
"Young Master, you want to drive yourself?"
"I'll drive. Sit in the back."
Mo Xiuchen's cold glare made Xiao Liu's face pale. He quickly got out and hesitantly asked, "Young Master, can I sit in the front passenger seat instead?"
Glancing at Cheng Jia, who looked utterly confused in the backseat, he gave Mo Xiuchen a pleading look.
"Sit where I tell you to."
Mo Xiuchen didn't give him a choice. He simply shoved him into the backseat, slid into the driver's seat, and started the car.
