Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Havana called Skylar immediately she got her hands on a phone. "Hello this is Skylar Rowan. Leave a message and I might call back.....eventually" Skylar's voicemail said. "Hello Skylar, this is Havana. I've got 5 minutes to make this call so call me back before my time is up" Havana said. It didn't take up to 5 seconds before Skylar called back.

"Havana Damien you motherfucker, where the hell have you been. I thought your stepmother succeeded in killing you" Skylar screamed from the other side of the call.

"You wouldn't believe what happened today but first my stepmother, Is she alright?" Havana asked.

"The idiot packed out of this premises hours ago!"

Havana laughed first and then responded, "Skylar I'm not kidding"

"Do I sound like I'm the one kidding? She sneaked out this afternoon, thinking no one was watching her but I got my eyes on her and when I didn't see you come out with her I figured something was wrong. Enough talk about me, where are you?" Skylar explained and asked.

"What do you mean by my stepmother no longer lives in the premises. She borrowed money from a Mafia gang, played the empathy card to get me go in her stead and ran away! No, this is not my stepmother. I think someone is blackmailing her" Havana panicked while she had flashbacks of all the time she gave up her job, food or money to make her stepmother happy. 'All the good things she thought about her stepmother, were they actually true?' Havana contemplated. She remembered when Mr Marcelo said that thing about Cleo doing a great job. She had thought about this earlier but dismissed the idea. Havana was a sweet girl who could be 'silly' sometimes but just like her father she doesn't like being used. 'Cleopatra, you messed with the wrong girl'

"Havana, you still there?" Skylar said.

"Yea, you were saying?"

"Girl you mentioned something about being sold to um what's that name again.....A MAFIA GANG. Girl, your mother's death didn't teach you anything?" Skylar fumed. Hints of anger could be heard in her voice.

"I...I well..."

"Oh spare me the explanation. I warned you about your stepmother didn't I. If you die don't blame me. I was just a stupid friend who didn't know what she was saying!" Skylar said and ended the call.

Havana called back instantly and after Skylar's voicemail she dropped a message.

"Skylar I was a very stupid and insensible friend that didn't value your opinions. I'm sorry for not listening to you and being in this mess. You know I can't get out of here without you. Please help me, I'll... I'll take you to your favorite restaurant. You could order anything, it would be on me." Havana said and dropped the telephone. It was then she noticed that a very angry Priya was standing at the door of the phone booth. For now, Priya was the least of her problems as she wanted to badly smack her stepmother.....Mrs Cleopatra in the face. Her mind relayed two words to her...'Kill her!'

"It's about time you came out. Those toilets aren't going to clean themselves." Priya said and rolled her eyes. Havana held back her response as she could loose her anger at any moment.

***************

It was day two of Havana's stay in Mr Marcelo's mansion and to call it hell was an understatement. The 8-years-old Melanie kept ordering everyone around and to make matters worse, all the maids hates her. If she thought it was some well now she's sure that it's all.

There were 30 household workers in the Mansion including the guards. The house was rarely scattered or not in order and the work could go around but she was made to do all the work. How did she know? Well, Brooklyn asked her to clean Melanie's rock collection which could be compared to a library as the rocks were stacked on shelves. Havana was timed and by the time she was done, dinner had been eaten and there was none remaining for her. Havana saw hell that day. Thinking the next day would be better, she woke up with high hopes that were dashed against the rocks when she heard what her stepmother has done. The jobs she did were very frustrating and they added to her anger. Havana graduated the year her father got missing, earlier than her mates and who would have thought that the brilliant business admin student would end up being a household worker...a maid to be precise.

"Brooklyn said that I should inform you that you would be going with Melanie to a grave yard tomorrow." One of the household worker informed Havana.

"Why should I go with that little brat to a grave yard?" Havana asked.

"They were Brooklyn's words not mine" The girl continued and left.

Havana could hear death knocking on her door. 'That is what you get for being stupid' Her mind reminded her.
