Chapter 6 - The wolf in sheep's clothing

Theron's POV

The moment I stepped into the office, I found John running back and forth like a headless chicken. Papers scattered, screens flashing, and chaos everywhere.

Great. Just great.

"It's really going to be a long day," I muttered, adjusting my cufflinks. "Thanks to my idiot secretary, who's running around like a track star instead of finishing the preparations.."

John froze mid-step, his head snapping toward me with an arched brow.

"I clearly said everything should be ready before I got here," I continued, voice sharp. "What were you and your little assistant doing all this time? Don't tell me—"

"STOP, Boss!" he cut in, waving his hands. "You really want to ruin my chance, huh? What a great boss! And, BTW, with all due respect, you called at 11 PM last night. Thanks to you, Jane, the sales team, and I worked all night to finish the presentation."

I scoffed. "Oh? Complaining about a late-night call? Maybe I should deduct your bonus for watching reels of cute girls dancing during work hours." I adjusted my glasses, shooting him a knowing look.

John visibly panicked. "That's because—"

Before he could dig his grave further, Jane walked in. "What cute girls?" she asked, arms crossed.

John nearly jumped. "Boss! The team's ready in the meeting room!" He turned to Jane. "You—go and make the arrangements! Boss will be there in 15 minutes!" Without another word, he literally pushed her out of the room.

I couldn't help but chuckle. This guy and his woman troubles.

But my amusement was short lived.

Before John could escape, the door swung open, and someone darted in—without waiting for permission.

Damian Drakos.

"Nephhhew!" he chimed, his voice smooth but calculated.

I leaned back, giving him a lazy smirk laced with sarcasm. "Uncle. Can't believe you personally came all the way here. Irrespective of your busy schedule."

He knew exactly what I meant.

His smile faltered for a split second before masking it with another. "Of course, my schedules are packed—handling the textile businesses and all. But I should still care about my nephew, right? After all, you're making your grand debut with this billion-dollar project. Your first public appearance, too. Naturally, I care."

My jaw tightened. This bastard. If he thinks he can rattle me, he's mistaken.

I forced a blank expression and leaned forward. "So, Uncle.....tell me. What's the purpose of your visit?"

His eyes darkened slightly, but he kept the act up. "You do realize this project isn't just your first in Eldoria, right? It also determines whether you keep your position here."

"So?" I shrugged.

He tilted his head, his smile never reaching his eyes. "I just came to wish you luck and remind you—don't mess this up. Unless, of course, you want to lose your position and your place in the family."

My fingers twitched.

Oh, how much I wanted to take the gun I kept for protection and use it to shut his mouth.

I exhaled slowly, keeping my voice calm but firm. "Uncle, should I be grateful for this sudden love you have for me? The love you have for me is overwhelming. Should I start crying now? " I teased

For the first time, his mask cracked.

I caught a flash of anger in his eyes. Well, well. The wolf finally sheds its sheep's clothing.

"Don't worry—I have no intention of losing. Not this project. Not my position. Not my home." I finished.

He clenched his jaw. "Of course, I'll be watching," he muttered before storming out.

I sighed, rubbing my temples. The day hadn't even started, and it was already ruined.

John peeked in cautiously. "Boss… he's definitely looking for an opportunity, huh?"

"He is. He always will be," I said flatly.

John nodded. "But… what he said was right. We can't afford to make a single error. This is going to be the biggest mall in Eldoria."

I stood up, straightening my suit. "Then let's get moving. Meeting room. Now."

John and Jane scrambled after me, struggling to match my pace.

These two will never keep up with me.

I smirked. Amateurs.
