The echo of the battle against the Shadow Wolves still resonated in Kenji's ears as he walked away from the clearing, leaving behind the danger and the company of Akari. The adrenaline was beginning to dissipate, replaced by a feeling of physical and mental exhaustion. Charmander walked beside him, its little flame dancing in the breeze, as if celebrating the victory. It was a small beacon of hope in the twilight of the forest. But Kenji couldn't stop thinking about the girl he had just saved, the burden she carried on her shoulders, and the weight of the surname she bore.
"Hoshi..." Kenji murmured, repeating the surname in his mind. "Ryūjin Hoshi... Akari Hoshi... Where have I heard those names before? Something tells me they're important, that they're somehow connected to my destiny in this world."
Suddenly, a flash of remembrance illuminated his brain, dispelling the fog of ignorance that had been clouding him. Ryūjin Hoshi. The name was synonymous with power and fame in this world. He was the most powerful warrior in Kazehana, the city where Kenji found himself, the guardian of its inhabitants. He had heard his name on the news, in street rumors, in the conversations of people in the market square. He was a local hero, a living legend, a beacon of hope in a world full of dangers.
Kazehana, the City of Wind Flowers, was a jewel in the small but prosperous country of Isola. Its cobblestone streets wound between wooden houses adorned with colorful flowers, and its parks were filled with ancient trees that whispered secrets to the wind. Despite its size compared to the great continents, Isola was known for its rich tradition in the art of combat with beasts. Warriors were revered, and their exploits were celebrated in songs and poems. Warrior tournaments were events of great importance, where the best fighters in the country faced off to prove their worth and achieve glory. It was a sport, an art, a way of life.
Ryūjin Hoshi was the reigning champion of Kazehana, a title he had defended with honor and bravery for several years. His exploits were legendary, and his battles were the object of admiration and respect. It was said that he was invincible, that his connection with his beasts was so deep that they could anticipate his movements and read his thoughts. There was even talk that he might participate in the national tournament, representing Kazehana and fighting for the title of the most powerful warrior in Isola. He was Kazehana's hope, the promise of a better future.
Kenji remembered seeing news reports about Ryūjin on television. In the images, Ryūjin appeared as an imposing man, with a piercing gaze and a magnetic presence. He radiated power and confidence, but also humility and compassion. It was said that he controlled up to five beasts, all exceptionally trained and powerful. Most surprisingly, two of his beasts had mutated, changing their form and power, which reminded Kenji of Pokémon evolution.
"It's like their beasts have reached a higher level, a state of perfection," Kenji thought, fascinated by the idea. "Maybe there's a connection between the mutation of the beasts and the evolution of the Pokémon. Maybe the Pokémon System can help me understand the secrets of this world."
The news mentioned that one of Ryūjin's beasts had mutated to take the form of a dragon. Kenji shuddered at the thought. The power that creature must possess was unimaginable, a power capable of destroying entire cities.
So fascinated with the situation, he couldn't contain the curiosity that flooded him and he asked Akari why the daughter of one of the strongest people in the city of Kazehana was in the forest alone and in danger, to which the girl replied with a mixture of pride and rebellion, showing a spark of independence in her eyes.
"I ran away," Akari said, with a mischievous smile. "I wanted to test Lumina's power, I wanted to prove that I can make my own decisions."
"Test her power?" Kenji asked, frowning. "But why in such a dangerous place? You could have gotten hurt."
Akari shrugged. "I wanted a challenge," she said. "I wanted to show my father that I can fend for myself, that I can be strong and capable. He's always treated me like a little girl, protecting me from all danger. I wanted to show him that I can be a warrior, that I can follow in his footsteps."
Kenji understood her. He too felt misunderstood and underestimated. He knew what it was like to have to prove his worth to those who didn't believe in him. He too yearned for freedom, for the opportunity to make his own decisions and forge his own destiny.
"I understand," Kenji said, with an understanding smile. "I've been in that situation too. Sometimes, we have to break the rules to find our own path."
They walked in silence for a while, sharing a moment of connection and understanding. The sun was beginning to descend on the horizon, painting the sky with warm and golden colors. The trees cast long shadows over the path, creating a magical and mysterious atmosphere.
They arrived at a fork in the road, where their destinations diverged. Kenji stopped and extended his hand to Akari, feeling a special connection with her.
"It was a pleasure to meet you, Akari," Kenji said, sincerely. "Thank you for fighting by my side. You've taught me a lot about this world."
Akari shook his hand firmly, returning his smile. "The pleasure was all mine, Kenji," she said. "You saved my life. I'll never forget it. I hope our paths cross again."
Before saying goodbye, Akari asked, with a look full of curiosity: "Do you attend Ryūsei Academy?"
Kenji shook his head. "Not yet," he said. "I plan to take the entrance exam next week. If all goes well, we'll see each other there. I'd like to become a great warrior, like your father."
Akari smiled enthusiastically, her eyes shining with hope. "I hope so!" she exclaimed. "Ryūsei Academy is an amazing place. You'll learn a lot and meet wonderful people. I wish you the best of luck on the exam. I know you'll do great."
"Thank you," Kenji said, with a smile. "I'll need it."
Akari turned around and began to walk in the direction of the city, followed by Lumina, who moved with elegance and grace. Kenji watched her walk away, feeling a mixture of admiration and curiosity. Akari Hoshi was a special girl, a warrior in the making with a big heart and a destiny that was about to be revealed.
He sighed and turned around too, beginning to walk towards his house. The evening was progressing quickly, and fatigue was beginning to weigh on his body and mind.
