Chapter 16 - the price of knowledge

Volume 3 – Revenant Rising

Chapter 3: The Price of Knowledge

The SUV cruised down a dark, empty highway. The only sound was the steady hum of the tires and the occasional rustle of fabric as someone shifted in their seat.

Aria didn't trust this silence.

She watched Rayan closely, searching for any sign of deception. His face was unreadable, as always.

"Where are you taking us?" Zayn finally asked. His voice was sharp, ready for a fight.

Rayan didn't look at him. "To someone who has the answers you're looking for."

Imran leaned forward. "Answers about Revenant?"

"About everything."

Aria's gut twisted. Rayan wasn't the type to exaggerate. If he said everything, then it meant the truth was bigger than they had imagined.

The Hidden Safehouse

Thirty minutes later, they pulled up to a run-down warehouse in the middle of nowhere. The kind of place where bad things happened, and no one heard the screams.

"Out," Rayan ordered.

Nadia hesitated. "And if we say no?"

Rayan smirked. "Then you can take your chances with the people who just tried to kill you."

Aria sighed and stepped out first. The others followed.

The warehouse looked abandoned, but the moment they stepped inside, everything changed.

Hidden behind rusted metal walls was a high-tech command center. Computer screens glowed, displaying satellite images, coded messages, and live security feeds of Revenant operatives.

A woman stood in the center, arms crossed. Mid-40s, sharp eyes, military posture.

"You're late," she said, barely glancing at Rayan.

Rayan smirked. "Had to pick up some strays."

She turned to Aria and the others. "You have no idea what you've gotten yourselves into."

Aria lifted her chin. "Then maybe you should tell us."

The woman studied her for a moment before saying, "My name is Captain Layla Khan. Former intelligence officer. And I know how to destroy Revenant."

Silence.

Then Zayn said what they were all thinking.

"Then why aren't they already dead?"

Layla exhaled. "Because Revenant isn't just an organization." She gestured at the screens. "It's a system. And unless we tear out its roots, it will always grow back."

Aria's blood went cold.

They had spent so much time trying to survive Revenant.

Now they had to kill it.

The Price of Truth

Layla walked over to a locked metal cabinet. She entered a six-digit code and pulled out a thick black folder.

She tossed it onto the table. "This is what you wanted."

Aria opened it—and her hands froze.

Inside were classified government documents, financial records, and a list of names.

Names of powerful people. Politicians. CEOs. Military officials.

And at the bottom—a section labeled 'Phase Two.'

Nadia read the words out loud, her voice shaking.

"Scheduled activation: 30 days."

Imran's face paled. "What the hell does that mean?"

Layla's expression was grim.

"It means you have one month before the world as you know it ends."
