Luna Everleigh's POV
***
A bitter laugh escaped Seraphine's lips. "Nothing to say?" She stepped closer, her presence like a storm rolling in. "Not even a pathetic excuse?"
Rhydian finally exhaled. When he spoke, his voice was quiet, but laced with something raw.
"…I thought you were dead."
"Oh, you hoped I was dead." Her smile was all teeth. "But fate is cruel, isn't it? I survived. And I made sure that I wouldn't just be a forgotten relic of your past."
The air around her pulsed—dark, ancient.
My stomach twisted.
This wasn't just her.
There was something else inside her.
A force I recognized.
Morganna.
Or what was left of her.
Seraphine's smirk widened, as if she could feel my realization. "Surprised?" she purred. "Did you really think you were the only one Morganna touched?"
I clenched my fists. "She's gone."
Her laugh sent a shiver through me. "No, little Luna." Her voice was soft, mocking. "She isn't."
Dark tendrils of power curled around her fingers like smoke.
And then, she whispered words that chilled me to the bone.
"You will understand soon enough. Because before this is over, I will drag you into the darkness with me."
