Chapter 55 - Chapter 54

Luna Everleigh's POV

***

My heart pounded so hard it hurt.

Damian's words echoed in my skull, a poison I couldn't expel.

"My family was responsible for the massacre of the last Lunar Guardian."

I took a step back, shaking my head. "No. You're lying."

"I wish I were," Damian said, his voice hollow. "But I only learned the truth recently. My father—he never told me what our family had done." His jaw clenched. "Until now."

Rhydian moved before I could stop him. One moment he was beside me; the next, he had Damian pinned against the stone wall, claws pressing against his throat.

"You expect us to believe that?" Rhydian's voice was deadly calm, but I could feel the rage simmering beneath the surface. "That you just happened to discover this now?"

Damian didn't flinch. "Believe whatever you want. It doesn't change the truth."

I should've wanted this. I should've wanted Rhydian to end him.

But something in Damian's eyes—something raw and desperate—made my chest tighten.

"Rhydian." My voice was sharp. "Let him go."

Rhydian's grip tightened, his golden eyes burning with fury. "He knew, Luna." His voice cracked with barely restrained violence. "His bloodline is responsible for what happened to your kind. To you."

"I know," I said, my throat thick. "But killing him won't undo the past."

Rhydian's hands trembled against Damian's throat. For a long moment, I thought he wouldn't listen.

Then, with a snarl of frustration, he released him, stepping back like Damian's very presence disgusted him.

Damian coughed, rubbing his neck, but he didn't look relieved. If anything, he looked exhausted.

"I didn't come here to fight," he said hoarsely. "I came to warn you."

Rhydian let out a humorless laugh. "Warn us? You're out of your damn mind if you think we'll trust anything you say."

But Damian ignored him. He turned to me, his blue eyes dark with something unreadable. "The Silver Fang Society is planning something bigger than just hunting wolves. They're after the Moonlit Relic."

Silence slammed into the room like a blade.

I frowned. "Moonlit Relic?"

Damian nodded. "It's an ancient artifact, lost for centuries. They believe it holds the power to either awaken—or destroy—your kind."

A chill ran down my spine.

If Morganna got her hands on something like that—

I didn't want to finish the thought.
