I turn to the head of the bed where my mother was, but there's no one there. It was all a dream… She wasn't here… She never was.
The door to my room opens, and Queen Velnara walks in. My breath hitches on seeing her, and I tear my gaze away from her in burning shame.
"Who? "She questions as the door closes behind her, and I lift my eyes back to her. She sighs in clear annoyance as she walks further into the room, and stands at the foot of the bed, glaring at me.
"Who taught you those words? "She asks this time with frustration in her eyes, and I force down the lump in my throat.
"Well don't just gawk at me, Mirelah. Say something. I know you have no knowledge of the old tongue. You couldn't even recite the right words, yet somehow you were able to recite an entire abomination in front of the sacred fire. Who taught it to you!? "She demands, and I jerk at the anger in her voice.
If I tell her the truth, will she believe me?
