Megara snorts clutching the newspaper in her hand. She sighs in distress rolling her eyes before trashing it in the trash bin. "That's the story for the rich not poor folks like us but that won't stop me from dreaming. She affirms walking straight to her bedroom.

She turns on the light revealing a small room with a bed frame that could barely hold up the bed, the books were arranged by the poor and old looking cabinet with a few number of clothes hanging on them. The table meant for her study session was kept upright with the help of some stones from the construction site and everything about her room was a testament to the poor and wretched life she had to endure after the downfall of her father's business mainly due to her mother's betrayal.

Megara and her parents had always been a neutral level based on the fights that happens with both parents but her mother running off with her father's investments money alongside her new lover was the last straw to the patient she had left. She dared to move out of the house but her father refused threatening to kill himself if she left and although he had managed to secure a meager paying job to support both themselves it still wasn't enough and Megara had to work at a convenience store to keep up with some fiscal issues like her schooling at the community school.

Bullying was a natural trend and for a seventeen year old teenager like her it wasn't a new thing and she knew it was only a matter of time before she could be in her final year but for now she still needs to hope for a better school through the scholarship programme enrollment.

She sat down in her room bandaging her bruised knees and elbows from the bullying she had incurred earlier. It was all thanks to Nathan her childhood friend and crush if not things might have escalated. The phone on her night stand ringed shredding the blanket of silence enveloping the room.

Her expression brightens as she glances at the caller ID warmth flashes in her eyes. "Hello Nathan I'm home thanks for the save. She appreciates fidgeting on the table.

"Oh it's nothing I mean I could always do that you're my best friend. He laughs with sincerity in his voice making warmth spread across her cheeks. "Howdy let me guess you're probably fidgeting and bandaging your wound, aren't you?

She rolls her eyes in amusement staring at the blank cracked wall like there was an inscription on it. "Yes you are. You know me more than I know myself and it gets me wondering if you had some camera in my room. She smiled walking straight to her bed.

"No I don't and that means I've got super powers Meg and it's a good thing so I can crack you up like I'm doing now. He chuckled and Megara couldn't help but feel more shy than she already was.

"Well aren't you a teaser Nathan? I'll be off to work in a few minutes can't afford to be late or Mr Griffin would.....

"Be sad and annoyed alright I get it all the time. We barely spend time together but promise me this Saturday you'd come home okay my mum can't stop talking about you and it's her birthday soon.

She stands up from the bed heading for her calender as she shuffles through them voraciously. "Oh I'm sorry I forgot but I promise I'll be there. She promised tracing her hand on the calendar.

"Promise? He asked almost in a pleading voice.

"Promise cross my heart and hope to die. She said making a cross sign on her chest. "Now satisfied?!

"Satisfied. He agreed chuckling. "Stay safe Meg greet uncle for me and to Mr Griffin relay the message that if he scolds you I'll have him beaten up and transferred to Africa in tha Sahara region.

Megara chuckled softly taking her sweat pant and a hoodie from the cabinet. "Yeah thanks little Man it's good hearing your voice.

"Me too bye. He whispered ending the call."

"Phew Nathan almost exhausted me. She acknowledged walking into her bathroom.

AT THE JEFFERSON'S MANSION,

The house was decorated like a celestial mansion decorated in glass and gold. The maids and the guards moved around tenaciously and attentively handling the tasks assigned to them with none daring to dally themselves around with trivial matters. Mrs Jefferson and the head maid stood outside the door pacing back and forth clasping their hands silent praying for Uriel's safety.

Mrs Jefferson paced back and forth raking her hands in her hair. The sound of her pointy red heels echoed throughout the house. "What did he say to his father? She asked feverishly. "Where is Gabriel let him hurry up or else if something happens to Uriel I won't let him off.

Mariah, the head maid, looked at her mistress with tears in her eyes. "Ma'am he interrupted the video meeting Mr Jefferson was having his meeting with the board members. She cried in a low tone as tears trailed down her cheek. "The master was furious but young master Uriel abused him and told him to get his mother back but the master only resulted to violence but but....

Mrs Jefferson clutch her dress tightly and the rumpling parts of the dress became more evident. "This child is going to be the death of me! She exclaimed with tears in her eyes. "If Jefferson dares to touch my son I won't let him go and I'll inform Erik and Derek about it.

Gabriel the butler arrived panting more ragged like a wild animal. He heads for the door with hopes to open it but the knobs turns and Uriel walks out of the door his expression and shoulders down casted with no hope or life like he used to be.

Mrs Jefferson rushed over to his side cupping his delicate face as she wiped off the tears that threatened to trail it's way down his cheeks. "What happened sweetheart tell me are you okay did he hurt you? She asked in a calm and concerned voice. "Talk to me son even if I didn't birth you to me you're still my baby though you may go looking for your mother I'm happy to welcome her and I never considered her a gold digger.

Uriel burst into tears his body trembling uncontrollably. Mrs Jefferson sends out all the servants including Gabriel and Mariah. "Catherine he said my mother's name is Felicia Juan, she was a stripper at a club he met some years back. He sniffed sobbing at every statement. "He said she doesn't want me that she sold me and even called me a mistake, Catherine, he said I was a mistake. Who on earth calls their kids a mistake now she has faked her death and disappeared somewhere in Mexico but she now has a family of her own and I'm abandoned.

Catherine(Mrs Jefferson) pulls him in her embrace silently coaxing him before kissing his forehead. "You're not a mistake alright look Erik loves you Derek showers you more love than he'll ever show to anyone so you're not a mistake. She assured confidently as she pinches his cheek causing him to smile. "You're mum might have been stressed out taking care of you that she left with her new husband so I understand. Now know you're worth you are a Jefferson, Catherine Jefferson's son and your father is Henry Jefferson.

"So don't let no one and I mean not even I myself talk you down okay. She warms sternly but not unkind.

Uriel smiled shyly making his signature smirk as he scrunches his bright red nose lightly. "Yes Catherine I know now I'm a Jefferson, Uriel Oman Jefferson and no one can talk down on me. He affirmed confidently before hugging her tightly showing his most vulnerable point.

Catherine struggled playfully his arm trying not to be squashed in his tight hug. "That's the spirit! Now let me go and deal with that old man of yours because he itches for a proper beating. She smiled walking towards her husband's office. "Off you go and please buy yourself a nice and proper gift after having breakfast downstairs. Magnus will give you my credit card spend at least two million and be back before 7:00pm.

Uriel's eyes glimmered with joy as he thought of the new motorcycle at the family's new mall. A satisfied smile played on his lips as he makes his way downstairs. "I'll get the bike of my dream without touching my savings. He smiled running down the stairs towards the library where Magnus, Catherine's bodyguard was always engrossed in his books.

AT THE CONVENIENT STORE.

Megara walked into the convenient store confidently not minding the shabby old looking sweat pants or hoodie she had on. Her golden hair was packed into a tight but rough bun detailing she had little to no time and her pale face bore no makeup.

She walked towards the counter where Tara and Tobi her colleague stood serving the costumers. Her relationship with them could be somewhat called platonic as she couldn't even start off a normal conversation with an individual for the fear that she might be too smart for them or maybe totally boring to talk to. Tobi was a nice person who always wanted to engage in a conversation with every given time he could but his cousin, Tara, was a different being altogether.

She was exceptionally stubborn, prideful and had a knackered for being over excessive with everything including her makeup. She had once called Megara a ghost and had even instigated others to do so but she got served with juvenile detention for three weeks and probation for a week.

Tara rolled her eyes at Megara before throwing her apron on her face. "Here change into that and hurry up the costumers are coming in more than usual today maybe something good decided to happen in Brookville. She spat walking to the coffee machine to make a coffee order placed by a customer. "Maybe some handsome prince or a rich fellow is in town today. I can feel it already in my vein.

Tobi groaned in frustration as he walks over to Megara patting her shoulder. "Sorry just ignore her. She has always been like that and maybe worse because the annual bikers competition is today and it's host city is Brookville. He scoffed rolling his eyes at Tara who is adjusting her hair and dressing. "She is sick I mean like no rich guys would spare a second glance at her with those plaster of a makeup. I think they'll go for someone like you.

Megara frowned with worry etched on her mind as she puts on the apron. "Now let's leave the affairs of the rich won't we? Mr Griffin doesn't pay us to stand here and dawdle all day. She informed walking to the food rack where she starts counting all the goods on the shelves.

Tobi followed her doing the same but he wasn't concentrating and just pulled her away. "You do know that you're a lady and a lady has to have a guy by her side? He asked rhetorically causing her to roll her eyes in disgust. "I know you always say guy are bad luck and no dating but imagine a cute rich and handsome guy walks in and he wants to get coffee and some beverages....huh.

"We have Tara to do that Tobi that's why she's getting paid. She said gritting her teeth as she tries to focus on the job at hand.

"Well maybe what if he walks right into you and Tara steps out for a bit or maybe she doesn't make coffee to his taste and you do it and he likes it? Tobi asked persistently with hope to motivate Megara but she only gave him a dead stare.

Megara now visibly distressed turns to face him abandoning her job. "Look I don't know what you're playing at but if it's me then you better stop because no one wants to drink the coffee that I make except you and my dad and maybe some of the neighbours then there's Nathan and his family. She said slowly and calculating as her gaze became soft and smooth with each statement.

Tobi stares at her eye widened as his brains try to process what he just heard. "There's Nathan? Who is he a guy a date or a crush? Tell me or I'll snag the next handsome guy my eyes could set themselves on. He threatened pulling her arm.

She was hesitant but finally breathe out a sigh of relief. "He is a crush and my best friend but he doesn't know and that's the end of this discussion. She managed grabbing the notebook and the pen.

"Dating or crushing on a best friend is so unprofessional like ewww but I'm snagging the next cool and handsome dude for you and in no time you'll be over him. He confessed walking away while whistling a song.

Megara paused for a while as the word Tobi had just said lingered in her mind. She couldn't afford to lose Nathan not the friendship nor could she quit but she promised herself to keep a safe distance at least until the day she could finally open her heart to say the words to him.
