Chapter 9 - Preparations

The fall to earth was peaceful at first, we simply were floating in utter darkness. The sensation was odd, but weirdly relaxing, despite that though I was hardly relaxed at the moment.

I felt nauseous, it felt like there was a hole in my stomach and the world around me felt like it was collapsing. All of the calm I forced in Axmon's presence disappeared the moment he was gone and I was left with the realisation of just how ill prepared I was.

'Give me at least a month to become strong. I was trying my hardest, I'm sure I would have been able to make good progress with 3's help.'

Alas I knew that we stood no chance.

Axmon said we were the most talented generation he had seen but that grace only applied to those who were actually the talented ones. The rest of us like me would almost certainly die. The pod we were in begun to shake. It was slowly at first then in each passing second it more and more violent all while we were being pressed against the floor with so much force I that I was almost blacking out.

My dread disappeared and turned into shock, I had always considered myself good at dealing with my emotions but nothing could stop the unrelenting fear that gripped me while I was torn in and out of consciousness.

Then it was gone, there was no shaking and a normal force pushing us down. The shock still remained which felt very out of place with the calm, silent darkness I found myself in.

The others were breathing heavy too then I heard 9 say "That really sucked."

Surprisingly 3 decided to speak and responded "I agree."

While all of us were catching our breaths a loud sizzling sound came from outside the pod and then after a few seconds the latch opened up to reveal a woman.

"Welcome to Earth, take a few seconds to right yourself then go over there" The woman said while pointing in a certain direction.

Each of us went out the pod and eventually it was my turn. I picked up my phone and grabbed the handle bar on the side then took a step outside./

The Massive expanse of space is something that made feel weird, and looking up made me realise just how small everything in my entire life was.

Up above were several mystical circles which were obviously used to slow our fall but the pure scale of what I was seeing was very hard to imagine. Each one of these colossal circles were likely bigger then even the largest of rings on the station.

the open blue sky was something which I had always heard about in stories but seeing it in person was something else entirely.

"If you would please, head over there to be registered." The woman said to us all.

We all walked to what was some kind of blockade which seemed like was there to verify your identity.

'They were called customs right?'

While we were walking I tripped because of how different it felt: each step was the exact same no matter the direction and gravity was very consistent, not pulling you in a direction if you tilted nor when you stood up from tripping like I just did.

49 and 9 were both chuckling at me. Then 49 did the exact same thing as me but unlike how I quickly caught myself she face planted the ground to which I loudly laughed and pointed at her.

49 stood up and gave me a glare and coldly said "Die."

Walking into one of the isles I went up to a box with widows which had someone inside. A little widow was opened and the man said "Please scan both your ID and cellular device here." After I did he continued "Now hand over your cellular device and then continue down the hallway to isle 4D."

Handing my phone over and walking slightly down the hallways I stopped and waited for the others to finish.

7 was the first to walk out "Earth is so trippy, I can see so far down these hallways and even walking around makes me feel dizzy."

"Yeah I was thinking the same, its something we are going to have to get used to." I responded

7 suddenly look a lot more serious. "What do you think is going to happen now, Axmon pretty much said we are immediately going to be sent off god knows where." He sighed "Everything is happening so fast, I just... I don't know."

49 who was behind 7 responded "Yeah I know what you mean, I knew something would happen but who could have expected it to happen now? its barely the second day since we were called for and we are already on earth, being ordered to march to our deaths."

The others who had also gone through customs and heard 49, everyone but 3 and 13 shared sombre expressions. Unlike us those aloof people weren't really able to be anything but calm.

We all walked together to isle 4D, looking to my right It read room fifty two and on my left was room fifty one.

We all said our goodbyes for the moment and went to our rooms.

My room was almost exactly like the one I up on the station and in a similar way there was a phone on the desk, this time it wasn't inside its own socket type thing it was just laying on the table.

Picking it up I tried turning it on but nothing happened. Looking up slightly on the wall was an informational sheet explaining the phone a bit and apparently this thing could actually use roh as a power source.

'One slight problem, I don't know how to push roh outside my body'

I considered this for a moment but realised I likely didn't need to do that.

pulling roh into the palm of my hand exactly on the back of the phone I eventually felt the slight tug on my roh and a faint hum which after a few seconds the phone came to life.

The phone needed a fairly constant stream of roh to power it and while it had a miniature battery it was meant for emergencies when you didn't have any roh left. though even with the constant roh it needed it was hardly an issue, my reserves wouldn't be affected much at all.

A notification appeared on my phone telling me I had 6 hours to sleep then In the morning I had to the room at the end of the hall.

I sat on my bed idly for a moment not really thinking of everything, just trying to calm myself.

I noticed on the other side of the room was two pairs of clothes on a table. One was the familiar training suit but the other was a black full body combat outfit, it even had a cloak and a mask.

'Imagine how 9 would react with me in this.'

That thought managed to brighten my impression of it considering I knew this is likely the outfit I would be wearing soon in the wasteland.

Dragging myself out of this thought I realised that I needed to sleep. then after going under the covers I found myself sleeping almost immediately.

--

The day after felt really short. Unlike the day before which seemed to just drag on and on today just rushed by.

We had been told we had to learn a new ability which was elemental resistance and that the enhancement we were learning would take too much time to perfect and that elemental resistance was a must to learn at once. Luckily the curse for this ability was simply just that your sensitivity to the elements were much more sensitive. The slightest cold felt absolutely freezing, but at the same time you would know you are resistant to it so it was mainly psychological so unlike many curses this one was merely mental.

The other things we learnt was mainly survival strategies, like how to make water safe to drink and how to primitively cook.

Now that I understood more about how to use roh I was able to use elemental resistance at about the same time as most of the others which I was glad for.

We were given two more days after to prepare ourselves, no one was meeting up with their friends. We simply had no time to, all of it was training. Falling behind meant dying and so I took in knowledge like a sponge. All my free time now was actually spent multitasking, both reading on my phone about absolutely everything I could for a tiny chance to raise my survival rate but at the same time this helped me immensely in learning quicker.

It allowed me to be able to keep up, I needed everything I could get.
