Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Quest Completed

Reward Added

I ignored the screen flashing in front of me as I lay inside the tent I had struggled to reach. My body ached, covered in walker blood and guts. To stay hidden, I draped the corpse of a woman over myself—if any walkers wandered in, they wouldn't attack me. As exhaustion took over, I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness.

Four hours later, I woke to darkness. The sun had set. Tossing the corpse aside, I sat up, flexing my fingers. My body felt… fine. No soreness, no pain. I glanced down at myself—no cuts, no bruises. Though my clothes were still soaked in blood, my skin underneath was completely unscathed.

I stood up and looked at the empty can of Spam I had gulped down before passing out. My eyes landed on a machete lying next to the corpse, half-buried under her. Pushing her over, I picked it up and noticed that the woman wore a military uniform—well, what was left of it.

I searched her gear and found an M1911 pistol, missing one bullet. I didn't have to guess where it went. Her head told the story.

She had two extra magazines on her, both empty, but I took them anyway. Then, I spotted a black plastic ammunition box nearby. Hope sparked for a moment as I opened it.

Empty.

I exhaled sharply, shaking my head. What was I expecting? They died because they ran out of ammo. That much was obvious.

Frustration ticked at my forehead. Would it have been smarter to go to the police station instead of this military outpost? If they fell because they ran out of bullets, maybe there was nothing left for me to gain here.

Back in Macon:

Alicia and Clem bonded well from their gossip of lovebirds in the group, Alicia, being almost the same age as Clem helped them bond a lot quickly. They had been talking ever since Clem got to their room, Clem told her about her everyday life, while avoiding talking about her parents, for it might bring bad memories.

Alicia didn't ask seeing that hesitation on her face, the conversation shifted to Wesker soon, though Alicia couldn't understand Clem's version of Wesker being so angelic, while all she could think when she heard his name Wesker was satan.

They continued to talk until it was already evening. Madison went to help Katjaa, while Nick…

Outside the room, Madison was helping Katjaa and Lilly with the dinner. Kenny was on the roof of the RV, Duck was goofing around.

Lilly's gaze fell on Nick climbing the stairs to Carley's room while she was helping Katjaa and Madison. She shook her head. It's none of my business.

Inside Carley's room.

Carley wondered, "Why am I acting like a child for some guy I just met?" She questioned her actions of the past three days, saying, "I should just give up on him." She shook her head. Hmph! Give up? Like it even began.

Knock! Knock!

Carley got up from the bed on which she was cleaning her gun and opened the door. Nick leaned against the doorframe as it opened, with a smirk on his face.

"You know you've been here the whole day. Thought I'd check if you weren't turning into one of those moody types."

Carley crossed her arms, unimpressed. "Maybe I am. What's it to you?"

"Nothing much. Just figured if you're gonna sit here and sulk, you might as well do it with a drink." He raises a bottle he swiped from the supplies.

Carley frowned, "Where did you get that?" suspecting.

Nick gulped. "I got it from Lilly," he lied.

Carley noticed the hesitation, "Fuck off, or I'll tell Lilly you're stealing supplies," she threatened forgetting that she herself was also in charge.

Nick stood straight and backed up a step, his hands in the air, "Alright, alright." Nick turned to leave he was 3 steps in when Carley stopped him, "Hey wait."

Nick smirked. 'I'm getting lucky tonight,' He thought before turning around.

Carley snatched the bottle from his hand, "Now, Fuck off," She shut the door on his face.

A tick appeared on his forehead, to be treated like a nobody, Bitch!
