Chapter 22 - He Is Mine

With Kade's return to Silverfall, Felix's exhaustion also settled back in… Although truth be told, the two were most likely unrelated. Or at least, Kade wasn't the ONLY thing (or not even the main) making Felix tired. While the Alpha did make a point to come bother Felix every day, he was still preoccupied with his search for the mermaid, thus leaving the Omega in peace for the majority of the time. If it wasn't for their mate bond, and the pup growing inside his belly, Felix would almost be able to find Kade's existence… tolerable.

But, since their situation was the way it was and couldn't be easily changed, he wanted nothing more but for the Alpha to leave Silverfall. And never come back, unless Felix moved somewhere else first!

Alas, there was nothing he could do to get rid of the man - he knew Silverfall no better than Kade, so he couldn't really help much with the search - he could only go about his life, trying to ignore the pull he felt toward his so-called 'fated mate'.

As he did that morning. It was his day off, and he made a short trip to the local textile shop to pick up some yarn, since he was running out, when…

"Hey!"

All of a sudden, someone yelled from the other side of the street. Felix lifted his head, just a natural reaction to a loud noise, even though he didn't think the call could be directed at him…

And as soon as he did, he instantly turned around on the spot, and started running in the opposite direction.

Because yes, the call was actually directed at him! It was the rogue Alpha from the other day, the one Felix had kicked in the crotch!

"You little shit! Come back here!" the rogue yelled, chasing after him.

As if Felix would listen. It only made him speed up even more.

He tapped his back pocket, to reassure himself that his pocket knife was indeed there. After the previous incident, he started carrying it around everywhere… Still, it was just the last resort. If possible, he'd rather just run away.

Especially since the Alpha seemed sober this time. While Felix was once again lightheaded.

The rogue's soberness wasn't the only difference though. After the last time, and with Kade back in town, the guards were now much more diligent in their duties! The rogue barely started running, and he was soon punched by the guard on shift. Felix glanced back, and he and the guard exchanged nods. Since he was safe, Felix slowed down, planning to just walk away from the scene…

Only that he couldn't. Because Kade had already spawned right in front of him, likely summoned by the instinct that he needed to protect his 'mate'!

"What is going on here?" His dark eyes moved from Felix, to the Alpha and the guard engaged in a scuffle, trying to assess the situation.

"Uh…" The rogue paused, his arm still lifted as if he was preparing to deliver the guard a punch. He was still in a combative mood when the Beta appeared, but there was something about Kade that made him take a step back, asking warily, "Who are you people? What do you want with this little sh… this Omega?"

"That's what I would like to ask you as well," Kade put on a perplexed expression, the tone of his voice kind and polite. "Why are you chasing after an innocent Omega?"

He seemed like a nice passerby, helping a little Omega in need. With his presence toned down, he appeared almost harmless, so much so that the rogue grew more daring.

"Well, this little shit is mine! Outsiders have no right to intervene!"

Biiiig mistake.

"Oh?" Kade tilted his head, his dark eyes turning a few shades darker. "How is he yours?"

His voice, although still calm and velvety, now carried a note of danger as he spoke. Impossible to miss. One that undoubtedly caused alarm bells to ring in the rogue's head, making him unconsciously take a step back…

"Ah, I apologize if that came out wrong!" Kade quickly fixed his expression, and lifted his arms, palms open, to show he was not a threat, his lips stretched in a wide, gentle smile. "I was just a bit surprised, you see! Because I can clearly tell that the Omega is unmarked. But worry not, I have every intention of listening to you, and if you are indeed in the right, I will hand over the Omega to you!"

The rogue… was clearly not the brightest. Because, while he remained a bit wary at first, he quickly fell for Kade's deception, and started 'explaining' the situation boldly. "Well, the thing is. I met that little shit the other day," he started. "And at first, I thought he was kind of cute! He was looking at me sweetly with those pretty eyes, fluttering his lashes… Acting all flirty, obviously trying to seduce me!"

Kade lifted his brows, throwing Felix an amused glance, as he tried imagining it. He didn't believe a single word coming out of the rogue's mouth, of course, but he didn't interrupt, letting the man continue to dig his own grave.

"So I thought, why not! I might as well give him what he wants! So I approached him, and he started getting all touchy with me… And then, just as I lowered my guard, he kicked me in… Ahem! I-I mean…"

The smile on Kade's face grew even wider, emanating intense satisfaction and pride. He didn't have to say anything for Felix to know what he was thinking. 'As expected of my mate!'

…Felix wanted to throw up. And it had nothing to do with the morning sickness!

Luckily, that disgusting look soon disappeared from Kade's face, replaced by something much darker, much more savage. Intense scent of sandalwood started drifting in the air, causing the street to feel stuffy, even though they were out in the open. It was annoyingly pleasant to Felix, but as for the rogue… He started choking as if he might suffocate, gripping his throat and he gasped for breath.

"Wha… Why… How…" he muttered, unable to even form a sentence, his voice barely audible. He was also an Alpha… But, well, not all Alphas were the same. He was clearly no match for Kade.

"Rainen, escort my mate back to his place," Kade smiled at his guard, but there was something deeply unsettling about that smile, that made the tall and muscular Beta shiver like a little girl. "I have some… business to finish here." He then moved his gaze to Felix…

But Felix was already far away, walking home on his own. All he cared about was not getting assaulted. As for what Kade would do with the rogue, he didn't care. It was none of his business. Now that he was safe, he just wanted to go back and focus on his own things!
