Chapter 24 - rex 2

---

Before returning to the government base, Rex spent a night in a cheap hotel to rest. Henry and the others did the same, keeping an eye on Rex from a distance. They took the opportunity to get to know each other better. They slept in separate rooms at the same hotel. The next morning, Robot woke them up. Duplikate had booked the rooms and came up with an excuse—that the others didn't want to be 'seen'. A highly advanced robot and an alien stood out too much. She was the only 'normal' one, so she took responsibility for everything.

After waking up, Robot and the others followed Rex to the government base. It was a large mansion with a gate. Inside, there were several crates and special items, as well as some robots.

Rex walked toward his room. It had a few posters on the walls and gave him a slight sense of nostalgia.

Even though that room brought back bad memories, it was still his room. Rex went to the closet and began gathering his things.

He started collecting everything useful he had in the room, because he had made up his mind—he was leaving.

While searching, he found a photo of his real family—the ones who sold him to the government for money.

He grabbed the photo, crushed it in his hand, and muttered, 'You son of a bitch,' staring at it intensely.

Rex began walking through the halls of the government base where he had been trained and raised, until he reached a certain spot.

There was a wall covered with photos of different missions. Rex started analyzing the faces in the pictures. He had never really looked at them before.

While he was looking at the photos, he heard a shout. Someone called out:

'REX!'

He looked to the side and saw Mr. Radcliffe calling out to him. He seemed nervous.

'Good morning, Radcliffe. What's this painting?' Rex asked, pointing at it.

Radcliffe walked up to Rex and started arguing with him.

Radcliffe wanted Rex to blow up the Pentagon. It was a mission Rex didn't want to carry out. He had done many like it before, but he was tired and refused to do this one.

On his way there, Rex had come across a villain with a robotic arm—his right arm was a machine gun.

Rex found him knocked out in front of a bank. It looked like someone else had taken him down and left before Rex arrived. When Rex heard police sirens, he left the area and let Killcannon stay there.

Rex had stopped to look at the images on the wall of the organization where he grew up, because the guy he saw on the way there—Killcannon—looked exactly like someone in one of the photos on the wall.

Radcliffe started arguing with Rex again. He insisted on the Pentagon mission, but Rex kept refusing.

At one point, Radcliffe started saying how ungrateful Rex was, since he had raised him and given him everything.

The argument escalated. Radcliffe slapped Rex across the face, knocking him to the floor.

'How could you do this to me, Rex? I gave you everything—food, work, money,' Radcliffe yelled at him.

'You liar. I never asked for any of that,' Rex replied, still on the ground.

Rex's nose was bleeding from the hit. Radcliffe grabbed his shirt and pulled him up.

'I gave you everything. The most important thing—power. And this is how you thank me?' Radcliffe shouted.

'Stop it. You know you can't hurt me,' Rex responded.

Radcliffe kept screaming, calling Rex ungrateful because he had given them powers.

Then Radcliffe began choking him. Rex, struggling to breathe, begged him to stop. He touched the edge of Radcliffe's glasses with his fingers. Without meaning to, Rex used his power, charging the glasses with energy.

'Wait… what did you do?' Radcliffe said, noticing something strange. He backed off and reached for the glasses.

'Wait, no—' Rex tried to stop him, but it was too late. The glasses exploded.

Radcliffe's head blew up completely. Nothing was left. Rex had accidentally used his powers and killed him.

Blood splattered everywhere, hitting Rex's face.

'No…' Rex murmured. After seeing Radcliffe's head explode, he ran through the halls and grabbed a few items he could use to destroy the place. As he ran, he muttered, 'Oh God, I'm so sorry.'

He gathered a few things and used his powers to charge them with energy. He found a rope, tied it around Radcliffe's body with the intent of destroying both the body and the house. Then, Rex transferred his energy into the rope and spread it throughout the mansion. After that, he activated his power and blew the whole place up.

(BOOM)

The entire mansion was gone. Rex stood with blood on his face. Before the explosion, he had grabbed his briefcase, which held the few personal items he owned.

Once again, Rex had become a poor man. But this time, he was more desperate. Where would he go? He had nowhere and no one left.

He walked slowly. Behind him was the house where he had grown up, where he had spent years. They had only used him. Still, Rex felt a deep sadness and began to cry. That's when people descended from the sky and landed in front of him.

There was a robot, a beautiful Chinese girl, and a handsome guy. The guy looked strong and wore a superhero suit. In fact, all of them did.

Rex didn't know what they wanted, but he felt like anything was better than being alone.

They walked up and stopped right in front of him.

---

(From the others' point of view before this…)

Henry and the others had followed Rex until they split up, but they all kept watching him from afar.

Duplikate was with Robot. He stood out too much, so he stayed far away, on top of a building. Robot had built a device that let them listen in from a distance. The two of them were together, hearing the entire conversation. They managed to catch everything that was happening.

Henry, on the other hand, was sitting in a café, drinking coffee. The shop was far from the mansion.

He wasn't wearing his suit—just casual clothes. His enhanced hearing allowed him to clearly follow everything that was going on.

As he sipped his coffee, he took the chance to practice his x-ray vision. From the café, he could see directly into the mansion where Rex was. His vision was that sharp. After practicing a bit, Henry pulled out his phone and started chatting with Eve. Rex wasn't doing anything important at the time, so Henry took the opportunity to talk to her.

She asked about the mission. She had wanted to come, but her leg was injured, so she couldn't. After chatting for a few hours, Henry stood up.

He got a message from Robot and also noticed some strange activity. His table was covered in cups and snacks he had ordered—completely messy.

A waitress walked up and asked, 'Want anything else?' She was beautiful, with long hair tied back. Her outfit was a little dirty.

'The check, please,' Henry told her. While she calculated the total, he sent a message saying he was on his way.

'$48.00 total,' she said.

Henry pulled out his wallet—stuffed with cash—paid the bill, and left.
