Chapter 32 - When You See The Light Again

Before visiting Glory, Shen Qin first took Sucrose and Klee out of Mondstadt to find Godwin. Shen Qin informed him that Glory would regain her sight soon, but without waiting for his response, they returned directly to the city.

"Do you think he'll really come? If he does, all these years of persistence will be for nothing…" Sucrose said worriedly.

"How about we make a bet?" Shen Qin asked confidently.

"A bet on what?"

Smiling, he proposed, "If he returns to Mondstadt, you agree to one condition of mine. If he doesn't, I'll agree to one of yours."

"Isn't that… a bit inappropriate, betting on someone else's situation?"

"Fine then." Shen Qin shrugged, not pressing further.

"Hey! Stop chatting and hurry to Sister Glory! She's been waiting for this day for so long!" Klee urged, pushing them forward.

Shen Qin and Sucrose exchanged smiles and quickened their pace.

On a bench beside the street near the Cathedral Plaza, Glory sat quietly, listening to the wind of Mondstadt and the chirping of birds. She heard the footsteps and chatter of passersby—sounds that had accompanied her for countless days and nights.

Although she occasionally longed for the colorful world she had seen in her childhood, she had grown accustomed to a world defined only by sound. Habit, after all, is a powerful thing.

Three people stopped in front of her.

"Hello, who's there?" she asked politely.

"Sister Glory, it's Klee!" said Klee cheerfully.

A smile crept onto Glory's lips. She often wondered what this sweet child looked like—whether she had big, round eyes, just like her own when she was young.

"Miss Glory, I'm Shen Qin."

"And I'm Sucrose… Nice to meet you."

'Oh! It's that "impolite" guy again' Glory thought. And a new voice—a stranger. But why were they visiting her today?

"Hello, Klee, Mr. Shen Qin, and Miss Sucrose. What brings you to me today? (Mr. Shen Qin, are you here to tease me again?)"

"Klee and I have brought a gift for you today!" Shen Qin announced.

"A gift? There's no need for that," Glory said, preparing to decline.

"Sister Glory, do you trust Klee?"

"Yes, of course."

Before she knew what was happening, Klee had begun untying the blindfold over Glory's eyes. Startled, she grabbed at Klee's hands.

"Sister Glory, trust Klee, okay?" The little girl's soft, gentle voice made her let go.

As the blindfold came off, Glory tightly shut her eyes. She didn't want anyone to see how unsightly they were. Then, she felt Klee place something—like an eyepatch—on her face. Only then did she relax enough to open her eyes.

And then…

Something unfamiliar yet long-missed appeared in her dark world. She saw a small girl with white hair, standing in front of her, tilting her head and waving a hand.

This wasn't her imagination!

"Sister Glory, can you see?"

She was stunned, unable to respond at first.

"Uh-oh, Shen Qin, is the eyepatch broken?"

"It shouldn't be! I tested it before coming," Shen Qin replied, kneeling to inspect the device on Glory's face.

Finally, Glory reacted. She looked down, trembling, stretching her hands out—opening, closing, opening, closing them again. Slowly, she stood up from the bench and glanced around.

There it was: familiar buildings, streets, the city of Mondstadt she had once known!

Merging hazy memories with the vivid sights before her, Glory regained her vision.

"I can see… I can see again…" she murmured.

"See? My invention works flawlessly!" Shen Qin sighed with relief, then explained the eyepatch's functionality.

"By wearing this, you can see again…"

Before he could finish, Glory interrupted him, hugging him tightly as tears streamed down her face. "Thank you… thank you…"

And then, she wept openly.

When her vision had deteriorated, she hadn't cried. When she lost her sight completely, she hadn't cried. Even when she covered her eyes to face the world, she hadn't cried. But now, seeing the world once more, all her grief and sadness came pouring out.

Feeling a bit awkward, Shen Qin let her vent her emotions.

Watching Glory sob, Klee's eyes misted over, and Sucrose's eye turned red.

Five minutes later, Glory managed to regain her composure. "I'm sorry, Mr. Shen Qin, for being so emotional and behaving rudely…"

"Does this mean we're even now?" Shen Qin teased, winking at her.

"Oh, stop joking…" Glory said with a smile. Her eyepatch displayed two upward-curving lines, mimicking her cheerful expression.

To let others see her emotions through the eyepatch, Shen Qin had added muscle-sensing functionality and a display. The eyepatch also adjusted the brightness and size of its visuals based on her eyelid movements, simulating blinking and closing her eyes.

As she glanced to the side, Glory caught sight of a figure walking away in the distance.

For some reason, that person felt familiar. Instinctively, she called out, "Godwin!" Then, realizing what she'd done, she covered her mouth and shook her head.

'What was she thinking? Godwin couldn't possibly be in Mondstadt.'

Yet, the figure stopped, turned around, and revealed a face both strange and familiar. He had the features of someone from her childhood, though time had aged him.

"Is it… really Godwin?"

She ran toward him, and he toward her. When they met, they embraced tightly.

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry…" Godwin wept as he apologized.

"I missed you so much!" Glory held his face in her hands, studying every feature to etch them into her memory. "Why did it take you so long to return…"

From a distance, Shen Qin and Sucrose quietly watched, their expressions sour. Klee tilted her head, lost in thought.

"Yo! Bro!"

Shen Qin turned to see a one-eyed pirate and the Dandelion Knight approaching.
