Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The System’s Response

The air was still heavy with residual distortions from the battle. The ruined cityscape around Ethan flickered in and out of stability, as if unsure whether to exist.

He exhaled, wiping the sweat from his forehead. That fight had taken everything out of him.

> [Status: Unstable but Functional]

[New System Privileges Acquired]

Ethan opened his status interface, and for the first time, something new appeared.

> [System Override: Partial Access Granted]

[User: Ethan]

[Anomaly Level: Critical]

He had done something that shouldn't have been possible.

He had forced the System to acknowledge his existence—not as an error, but as something that could change its rules.

And that meant Sigma wasn't the only threat coming for him now.

The entire System itself had to react.

---

The Sky Cracks Open

A low, droning sound vibrated through the air.

Ethan's instincts screamed at him to move.

He leaped back just as the ground where he had been standing imploded, crushed under the weight of some unseen force.

> [System Enforcement Directive Activated]

[Deploying: Judgment Protocol]

The sky above split apart.

Massive, circular symbols began forming in the sky, each one a glowing construct of pure System energy.

Ethan's breath caught. These weren't just any reinforcements.

They were System Enforcers—beings even higher than Sigma.

And they were here for one reason.

To erase the one who defied the System's will.

---

The Enforcers Descend

The first figure emerged from the energy rift—tall, robed, its body shifting like living code.

Its face was featureless, a blank void, yet Ethan could feel its gaze piercing into him.

Then another.

And another.

They floated above him, silent, unmoving, until—

> "Anomaly Detected."

Their voices merged into one, a cold, mechanical judgment.

> "Reality Disturbance Level: High."

> "Correction Protocol: Absolute."

Ethan clenched his fists. "You guys don't waste time, huh?"

The lead Enforcer raised a hand.

Reality froze.

---

A Fight Against Absolute Authority

Ethan couldn't move.

His breath halted, his muscles locked in place. The System wasn't attacking with physical force.

It was rewriting his very existence.

His body flickered—turning to lines of code.

This was worse than Sigma.

This was total erasure.

> [Warning: Reality Override Engaged]

[System Attempting to Reformat User]

Ethan's mind screamed. This wasn't a battle—this was a full reset.

And he was about to lose.

---

Defying the System Once Again

> [Override Attempt Detected… Processing…]

[Failure Rate: 99.99%]

His body was disappearing.

The Enforcers stood unmoving, simply letting the process complete.

Ethan refused.

"Not… happening!"

Something deep within him stirred.

Something beyond the System's calculations.

And then—the impossible happened.

> [Override Attempt… Success.]

> [WARNING: User Ethan has achieved System Rejection.]

The Enforcers reacted immediately.

For the first time, they stepped back.

> "…Rejecting System Authority?"

> "Impossible."

Ethan grinned, even as his body flickered between real and unreal. "Guess the System's not as all-powerful as it thinks."

The Enforcers didn't answer.

Instead—they changed tactics.

> "Deploying Absolute Suppression."

> "The Anomaly Must Be Erased."

And this time, they weren't holding back.

---

War Against the System

The sky screamed with the weight of the System's judgment.

The three Enforcers stood like immovable sentinels, their faceless forms pulsing with power that twisted reality itself.

> [System Alert: Anomaly Rejection Unacceptable]

[Adjusting Protocol… Deploying Absolute Suppression]

Ethan barely had time to react before the first attack landed.

---

The System's Absolute Might

BOOM!

A pillar of pure System energy erupted from the Enforcers, striking the ruined city like the hammer of a god.

The buildings around Ethan shattered into pixels, dissolving into raw code.

He dodged—barely. The force of the blast sent him skidding backward, his feet carving trenches into the broken earth.

> [Warning: Reality Stability at Critical Levels]

[Further System Disruption May Cause Full Collapse]

Ethan growled. "Good. Let's see how far I can push this."

He launched forward, cloaking himself in raw, chaotic energy.

His hand crackled with unstable power—something even the System couldn't predict.

And then—he struck.

---

Breaking the Unbreakable

His fist connected with the first Enforcer's chest.

A deafening shockwave erupted.

For a second—just a second—the Enforcer faltered.

Its body rippled, the perfect structure corrupted by Ethan's rejection of the System itself.

> [System Error: External Force Breaching Protocol]

[Warning: Anomaly Breaching System Integrity]

The other two Enforcers reacted instantly.

One raised a hand—and time itself shattered.

Ethan felt his movements freeze, his entire existence locked into place as if he had been ripped out of the timeline.

The second Enforcer spoke, its voice a monotone decree:

> "Existence Rewrite: Begin."

His body flickered—turning into numbers.

---

Defying the Rewrite

Ethan gritted his teeth. No. Not this time.

He could feel the System trying to erase him, trying to overwrite his very existence.

But that meant he still existed.

And if he existed—he could fight back.

> [System Override: Ethan Engaged]

[Anomaly Factor: Unstoppable]

The rewrite stalled.

The Enforcers hesitated for the first time.

Ethan moved.

His hand shot forward, gripping the shifting air—and breaking it.

CRACK!

Reality snapped back into place as Ethan tore himself out of the System's control.

The Enforcers stepped back.

They didn't understand.

This wasn't supposed to be possible.

---

Reversing the System's Power

Ethan felt it now.

A new energy inside him.

Not just defying the System. Rewriting it.

He turned his gaze to the Enforcers, his smirk growing. "You tried to erase me?"

He raised his hand—and for the first time, the System's power bent to his will.

The sky rippled, the System's very foundation destabilizing as Ethan forced his influence into the code of reality itself.

> [System Instability Detected]

[Enforcer Protocol: Failing]

The Enforcers twitched, their once-absolute power now fluctuating.

One of them finally spoke:

> "This… is not within calculation."

Ethan grinned. "Then it's time to rewrite the rules."

He lunged—

And the war truly began.

---

The Birth of the System Breaker

The world trembled.

The sky pulsed like a dying star, and the air itself fractured under the force of Ethan's defiance.

The Enforcers—once untouchable, absolute entities—now staggered. Their perfect, mechanical control over reality faltered, corrupted by the very existence of the one they had deemed an anomaly.

Ethan stood tall, his body surrounded by crackling distortions—no longer bound by the System's laws, but rewriting them with every breath.

> [System Error: Anomaly Factor Exceeding Projected Limits]

[System Integrity Threat Level: Red]

For the first time, the System itself was afraid.

---

A War Beyond Reality

The lead Enforcer recovered first, its hollow voice echoing across the battlefield.

> "Adapting. Executing Judgment Protocol: Final Sanction."

The other two followed in perfect sync. Their bodies expanded, shifting from humanoid forms into something far worse.

Towering, formless masses of shifting data and energy, they were no longer trying to function within reality.

They were erasing reality itself.

The air around Ethan vanished.

Not exploded. Not burned. Just ceased to exist.

A void of absolute nothingness spread outward from the Enforcers, devouring the world itself.

And Ethan was in the center of it.

---

Surviving the Unthinkable

His instincts screamed.

His feet lost ground, his very body trying to unravel under the force of complete erasure.

> [WARNING: System Collapse Event in Progress]

[Escape Probability: 0.0001%]

The numbers were against him.

But Ethan had stopped playing by the System's rules.

He clenched his fist—and punched the void itself.

BOOM.

The formless nothing shattered like glass, reality bending and snapping around him. Impossible.

The Enforcers reacted instantly, but Ethan was already moving.

His body flickered—not teleporting, not phasing, but rewriting his own position in real-time.

One second, he was in front of them.

The next—he was inside their existence.

And for the first time, he saw the core of their being.

---

Breaking the System's Chains

> [SYSTEM CORE ACCESS: PARTIAL]

[WARNING: UNAUTHORIZED USER DETECTED]

Ethan grinned, his hand reaching out.

The Enforcers tried to resist, their massive forms shifting and distorting to eject him—

But it was too late.

Ethan's hand touched the glowing, formless core of the System itself.

And then—he pulled.

Reality screamed.

The Enforcers convulsed, their forms collapsing, their power unraveling as Ethan tore apart the very laws that governed them.

The world lurched.

The sky collapsed inward, the System's absolute control breaking apart.

Ethan landed on solid ground once more, his body smoking from the sheer force of what he had done.

And then—silence.

The Enforcers were gone.

---

The System's Final Warning

The dust settled. The ruined city was now a wasteland of broken data and fractured reality.

Ethan exhaled. He had won.

But before he could even celebrate, the System spoke.

> [ALERT: THREAT LEVEL MAXIMUM]

[NEW PROTOCOL ENGAGED: ADMINISTRATOR INTERVENTION]

A shiver ran down his spine.

The Enforcers were just the beginning.

The true rulers of the System were finally taking notice.

And they were coming for him.
