The Weight of Knowledge
Kai staggered, his breath ragged as the echoes of the vision burned through his mind. His fingers curled into fists, the sensation of something ancient and terrible lingering in his chest.
Selene caught him by the arm, her eyes sharp with concern. "Kai, what the hell was that? You just—just froze up! Your body was flickering like a damn glitch in the System!"
Lyra, still running her hands over the pulsating obelisk, spoke in a hushed tone. "This is beyond what we understand. Kai… whatever you saw, it wasn't just a vision, was it?"
He swallowed hard, forcing his mind to untangle the pieces of what he had seen.
"It was a warning," he said. His voice came out hoarse, but steady. "This place—it's not just an archive. It's… a fragment of something bigger. A memory that hasn't happened yet. Or maybe… something that already did, and we're just living the repeat."
Selene stiffened. "You're saying we're trapped in some kind of cycle?"
Kai shook his head. "Not trapped. But we're part of something far bigger than just a war over Systems. This isn't just about me or the Restart System anymore. It's about the first collapse—the one that created the war in the first place."
Lyra's eyes widened. "You mean the First System War? The event that wiped out the Architect civilization?"
"Not wiped out," Kai murmured, turning his gaze back to the obelisk. "They're still here. Waiting."
The whispers of the obelisk grew softer, shifting from unintelligible murmurs to a single, clear sentence:
"The Loop must break… or the End will come again."
A Rift in Reality
Suddenly, the entire chamber trembled.
The golden circuitry along the obelisk fractured, sending cracks rippling through the floor. The Sentinels—who had remained motionless until now—jerked their heads upward, their glowing eyes flickering in alarm.
Kai's System flashed with an urgent alert.

Then, from the darkness beyond the obelisk, a tear in reality split open.
It was like a jagged wound in space itself, lined with shimmering violet energy, its edges twisting like a living thing.
From within the rift, a presence emerged.
Not a physical entity. A voice.
Cold. Hollow. Unfathomably ancient.
"This was not meant to be seen."
Kai felt the air turn heavy, pressing down on him like a vice.
Selene drew her dagger, stepping in front of him. Lyra's hands trembled, magic coalescing at her fingertips.
And then—the voice spoke again.
"Restart System detected. Unauthorized presence confirmed."
The rift expanded violently, swallowing the walls of the chamber in darkness.
Kai's System went haywire.
[Emergency Ejection Protocol: Activated]
[User will be forcibly extracted from unstable temporal space]
Kai barely had time to shout before his entire body was yanked backward—into the unknown.
A Forced Reset
For a split second, everything was silent.
Then—
Light.
Sound.
Pain.
Kai gasped as he slammed back into reality.
The cold wind cut through him as he landed hard against an unfamiliar stone floor. His vision swam, the echoes of the rift still clawing at the edges of his mind.
Selene and Lyra were beside him, both shaken but alive. The obelisk, the chamber, the Sentinels—all gone.
Instead, they were in a completely different place.
A massive fortress stretched before them, its towering gates guarded by soldiers in obsidian armor, their eyes glowing with the unmistakable imprint of System integration.
And above them—carved into the black stone—was a symbol Kai had seen only once before.
The insignia of the First System's last ruler.
A name whispered through his mind, carried on the remnants of the obelisk's dying words.
"The Usurper King."
Kai gritted his teeth.
"This is far from over."
The Usurper's Fortress
A Return to Chaos
The air was thick with an unnatural stillness. The fortress loomed above them, its walls carved from black stone that pulsed faintly with an eerie glow. The guards stationed at the entrance stood motionless, their armor fused with System-engraved runes that radiated power. Their glowing red eyes locked onto Kai and his companions the moment they arrived.

[Combat Probability: 93%]
Kai clenched his fists. The Restart System had barely stabilized after the forced ejection, yet they had landed straight in another dangerous situation.
Selene took a step forward, her dagger shimmering with a thin layer of energy. "We need to move. They've already seen us."
Lyra's fingers twitched as she whispered an incantation, her eyes darting between the soldiers. "They're not attacking yet. Either they don't see us as a threat—or they're waiting for something."
Kai exhaled sharply. "Then let's not give them a reason."
They advanced slowly, their steps echoing against the stone pathway. The fortress gates loomed ahead, massive and adorned with the emblem of the Usurper King—a broken crown wreathed in chains.
And then, the silence shattered.
A voice boomed from above.
"You should not be here."
Kai looked up just in time to see a figure step onto the fortress's elevated balcony.
The Usurper's General
The man standing above them radiated pure authority. He was clad in armor of polished obsidian, veins of dark energy coursing through its plates. A flowing crimson cape billowed behind him, the only sign of movement in the frozen air. His piercing silver eyes gleamed with the unmistakable mark of System mastery.
Lyra inhaled sharply. "That's—"
"General Alistair Varos." Selene finished grimly. "The right hand of the Usurper King."
Kai's jaw tightened. He had heard the name before—a strategic genius, once a hero in the First System War, before he had betrayed the Architect civilization to side with the Usurper.
Alistair's gaze burned into them. "Your presence disrupts the flow of time. Your System should not exist here."
Kai felt a sharp pang in his skull as the Restart System flared up.
[Warning: Temporal Integrity Disrupted]
[Restart System Anomaly Detected]
Something about this place—about Alistair—was interfering with his power.
Selene took a defensive stance. "We don't want trouble, but we need answers. What happened to the First System?"
Alistair let out a slow, measured sigh. "What happened?" His expression darkened. "It was devoured."
The Fate of the First System
Kai's pulse quickened. "Devoured?"
Alistair gestured toward the fortress gates. As if responding to his command, the enormous metal doors groaned open, revealing a massive mural inside the entrance hall.
It depicted a battle—one unlike anything Kai had seen before.
Towering entities of pure energy clashed against System-empowered warriors. The sky itself was splitting apart, revealing a gaping void beyond reality.
And at the center of the chaos—a colossal shadow, its form shifting, its very existence an abomination against the fabric of the world.
"The First System," Alistair said, his voice low, "was never meant to last."
He descended the stone stairs slowly, his gaze never leaving Kai. "It was designed to be a cage. A failed attempt to contain something that cannot be contained."
Kai's throat went dry. He knew that presence. The whispers in the obelisk, the corruption in the System logs, the glitching visions—they all led to the same truth.
"The Entity…" Kai murmured. "It's still here, isn't it?"
Alistair smiled, but it was a grim, cold thing. "Not just here. It is waking."
A tremor rumbled through the ground.
The shadows in the mural shifted.
For the briefest moment, Kai could have sworn the eyes of the Entity turned toward him.
And then, the fortress shuddered—because something was breaking through.
Something had arrived.
