Chapter 21 - Chapter 19 'Changes'

Changes

---

Garp and Yato followed their master's orders, each carrying a wyvern—one perched on a shoulder, the other resting on a head.

"Do you think they'll be strong?"

Garp asked the dark-haired boy, who simply shook his head.

"Nah, you can sense them, can't you?"

Garp sighed. "These humans... betraying one of their own."

Both of them knew who these exorcists were. They had been gathering information about them.

"Well, it's to be expected, but Masaomi Yaegaki sure is impressive—being able to hold out for so long."

Yato said with a small smile, the night breeze fluttering his hair.

Their faces remained calm.

"Garp, you should approach from the front gate—direct all of their attention solely towards you while I stealthily rescue Masaomi Yaegaki."

Garp nodded. "Sure."

"Let's go."

They reached the ground, and Garp's aura seemed to swell. His body grew taller, his height now reaching 6'7. Muscles bulged, covering his entire frame, making him look more like a man in his twenties rather than a twelve-year-old boy.

---

For Masaomi Yaegaki, this was the worst day of his life.

Just because he had fallen in love with a devil, he was going to be killed.

He would have accepted his death—embraced it, even—until he learned that his lover, the love of his life, was also going to be executed.

He screamed. He begged. He pleaded.

But none of them budged.

His so-called best friend had betrayed him.

There were no tears left to cry. His heart had turned cold.

"Maybe I should have accepted Cleria's offer to become a devil... I'm sorry, love." Masaomi thought, his mind growing numb.

"I am sorry," said Masaomi's direct supervisor—his supposed best friend. A man with whom he had once exchanged drinks, celebrated victories. But in the end, betrayal always comes from the closest ally.

"Sorry?" Masaomi laughed bitterly. "Don't make me laugh. You were always envious of me, weren't you?"

His hateful gaze and sharp words struck them.

And he was right.

Masaomi had always been a subject of envy. A genius with talent in holy swords. Handsome. Respected. Admired. Even though they had all grown up in the same orphanage under the Prostrate Church, 'why was he so much better than them?'

"Don't be delusional, Masaomi," one of the exorcists sneered. "You were the one committing a crime against the Holy Church. How dare you fall in love with a devil?"

Masaomi glared at the man, who instinctively stepped back.

"Ahahahaha! You bastards. You poison me? Backstab me? And yet you're scared?" Masaomi's laugh echoed through the factory.

"Shut up," Touji Shidou growled. "I am sorry comrade, but it's for the good of the church."

He drew his light gun.

"I'll make it painless."

But then—

SHUDDER

A suffocating presence engulfed the factory.

Every exorcist turned toward the source.

A blue wyvern stood at the entrance.

But that wasn't the terrifying part.

In front of the wyvern stood a man.

Imposing. Towering. Muscular. Strong.

"Wh-Who are you?" one of the exorcists stammered.

Garp said nothing.

Then—

He rushed toward them.

The exorcists, though terrified, drew their swords.

"Formation-5!" Touji Shidou shouted.

The exorcists nodded and scattered.

Two wielding guns.

Two wielding swords.

BANG! BANG!

Bullets struck Garp, but as a Rook reinforced with Touki, not a single scratch marked his body.

A faint stinging sensation. That was all.

Garp dashed toward an exorcist wielding a gun—his speed unnatural for a Rook.

[Weak Impact]

His fist, shrouded in darkened Touki, crashed into the exorcist's body.

A sickening crack.

The man was sent flying, impaled against a rusted metal machine.

Dead.

Seeing their fallen comrade, the exorcists realized—

They had no chance.

"W-What?"

Their eyes widened in horror.

"M-Monster..."

Garp grinned.

"A monster, huh? I like that." His deep, maniacal voice sent shivers down their spines.

And in that moment—

Yato moved.

His body blurred. His Touki-enhanced legs propelled him toward Masaomi.

In an instant, he grabbed the bound exorcist by the collar and carried him away from the battlefield to the opposite side.

"Another one?"

"Shit!"

One of the exorcists dropped to his knees before Garp.

"Please, don't kill me!"

Tears streamed down his face.

Garp ignored him, turning to Yato.

"Yato, look at them. They betrayed their comrade, and now they beg to live? What should we do?"

Before Yato could answer—

Touji Shidou took his chance.

His gun aimed at Yato.

"I did not recognize the Rook because of his transformation, but that boy... he's definitely the Knight of Vael Beleth. To think they were this strong..."

Touji fired.

But to his shock—

Yato smirked.

He tilted his head slightly—

The bullet whizzed past, missing by mere inches.

And before Touji could react—

Yato moved.

His speed was beyond human comprehension.

[Storage Magic]

An arming sword materialized in his hands.

SLASH!

Touji's arms fell to the ground.

"AAARRRGGHHHHHHHHHH!"

Touji screamed, looking desperately toward his allies.

But they were already dead.

Their blood stained Garp's body.

"Monsters..."

THUD.

Touji collapsed to his knees, unable to support his weight.

Yato's cold gaze bore into him.

The last thing Touji saw—

Was the gleam of Yato's blade.

SLASH!

His head rolled across the factory floor.

"I'm sorry, Irina."

Masaomi looked mesmerized by the scene. He was in between two Wyverns. Just a few moments ago, he was in death's door but now he was potentially saved.

"Why? Why did you save me?" Masaomi calmy asked.

"It was our master's order."

Yato replied and continued "Oi! Garp. You smell horrible."

"Huh!" Garp clashed his head against Yato, putting a bit of blood on his head.

"I-Is Cleria safe?"

Masaomi asked, the sheer desperation in his voice evident.

Yato grinned "The safest in Kuoh Town. Our master is with her."

Masaomi breathed a sigh of relief, even though he did not know why the heir of a Devil Clan saved him. He was happy to be alive. To be reunited with his love was the only thing he yearned for so he asked-

"Can you take me to her?"

Garp looked amused by the question-"Nope. We are killing you."

Garp's serious tone and serious voice filled Masaomi with a sense of dread.

He looked over to Yato and his face was calm and collected. A cold-blooded killer.

Masaomi's heart shank. 'Of course they were devils. Why would they-

"Gahahahaha! Yato look at his face. Of course we are taking you to her. What do you take us for, monsters?"

Masaomi breathed and he lost unconscious.

"Is he dead?" Garp asked.

"Nah." Yato replied casually before pulling out a Healing Potion from his Storage Magic and feeding it to Masaomi.

"Let's take him back."

Garp nodded.

Red and Blue shrank their body again climbing on their master's body.

Using the flyer which had the mark of Beleth., he used the reverse teleportation engraved in the mark.

--

Vael who was with Cleria who was still on the ground crying felt the spell calling to him and he allowed the teleportation.

'It seems they have done their job' Vael noted.

"Don't cry. Your lover is coming."
