Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: Choosing Ninjutsu

Chapter 52: Choosing Ninjutsu

The clerk was curious about what ninjutsu Ishiro would pick, so he handed him the complete catalog of available C-rank jutsu. Scanning the list quickly, Ishiro noticed categories like Sealing Techniques, Genjutsu, Sensory Jutsu, Medical Ninjutsu, and others.

Seeing these, Ishiro paused. Previously, limited chakra had kept him from expanding his skills. Now that he'd discovered his talent for ninjutsu, perhaps he could learn some genjutsu or medical ninjutsu?

He decided to first read the details. Setting aside Sealing and Sensory Techniques, as well as elemental jutsu he couldn't use, Ishiro was left with Water Release, Earth Release, Genjutsu, Medical Ninjutsu, and a peculiar scroll labeled Yin Release.

After some consideration, Ishiro also removed medical ninjutsu—after all, he'd already obtained medical scrolls from Yakushi Nonō. If he wanted medical skills, he could just use those.

Focusing next on the four remaining categories, he quickly reviewed the Water and Earth techniques. He was already familiar with these and found nothing new had been added, so he moved on.

He then carefully examined the Genjutsu and Yin Release jutsu lists.

Genjutsu was straightforward—he hadn't practiced it yet, but he understood the basics from his previous life and early theoretical studies. However, Yin Release was something he hadn't explored much, so Ishiro read its description carefully.

The Yin Release scroll included techniques similar to Konoha's Nara Clan's Shadow Possession Jutsu, though they were limited and generally weak. Only one caught his eye—a technique resembling the Yamanaka Clan's Mind Disturbance Jutsu, able to disrupt enemies invisibly. Although it had no direct lethality, it was excellent support, leaving enemies open to a follow-up strike. Still, because it lacked direct killing power, few people bothered learning it. Given the limited collection of Yin Release techniques in Iwa, its price was remarkably high: 9,300 contribution points, nearly 10,000.

Iwa really lacked foundation; Ishiro thought wistfully about encountering someone like Nonō again, hoping to enrich the village's Yin Release collection further.

Yet price wasn't his main concern. For the first time since learning chakra extraction from Onoki years ago, Ishiro felt he'd genuinely touched upon true Yin Release techniques. His mind suddenly filled with inspiration, feeling as if a door had opened within him. Unable to contain himself, Ishiro sat down immediately and began extracting chakra.

The clerk was initially startled by Ishiro's actions, worried he'd practice ninjutsu inside. Seeing Ishiro simply meditating, the clerk relaxed, gathering the remaining scrolls quietly.

Ishiro stayed meditating for half a day, finally opening his eyes with uncontrollable joy, laughing out loud. After nearly seven years of extracting chakra, he'd finally mastered true Yin attribute chakra. Now he officially possessed Water, Earth, and Yin chakra affinities.

But that wasn't the biggest gain. Ishiro also discovered his chakra extraction had been constrained by his physical limits, with abundant mental energy going unused. By adjusting the ratio, he could now extract true Yin chakra—doubling his chakra reserves in one go.

In the past two years, his chakra had grown from 53C to 120C, slightly more than doubling. Now, just a single enlightenment had doubled it again! Ishiro laughed, grateful to his parents; without their sacrifice and his inheritance, he wouldn't have checked this Yin Release scroll today.

Ignoring the clerk's puzzled gaze, Ishiro decided to reserve the Mind Disturbance Jutsu. He then reviewed Genjutsu carefully.

Iwa's C-rank Genjutsu were limited, with only about twenty techniques, each fairly specialized. Most were either interrogation-focused or required the user to maintain hand seals constantly during combat.

This posed a dilemma: Genjutsu rarely directly killed enemies—even the powerful Tsukuyomi only mentally crippled foes. Genjutsu primarily supported other attacks, but being forced to maintain hand seals significantly reduced their practical value. Yet, oddly enough, the single-target binding genjutsu available still cost more than Mind Disturbance Jutsu, priced even higher.

Ishiro had one free choice but wanted both. Sadly, he didn't have enough points to pick both at once.

Seeing his hesitation, the clerk advised, "Choosing ninjutsu shapes your combat style. If you truly want both but lack points, pay attention during missions. If you obtain new ninjutsu not already in our collection, the village will reward you handsomely."

At first, Ishiro rolled his eyes. If capturing new ninjutsu were that easy, he wouldn't be standing here debating his choice.

Then suddenly, he exclaimed, "Wait!"

Excitedly, Ishiro asked, "Any ninjutsu the village doesn't have will count?"

The clerk nodded, smiling. "Yes. No matter its source, if we lack it, the village won't question you."

Thrilled, Ishiro declared, "Then how about this?"

He glanced around but found no suitable targets. Deciding quickly, he ran to an empty corner and rapidly formed hand seals, creating five consecutive Earth Flow Walls.

Returning to the clerk, he announced, "Watch carefully! I'm going to show you my original ninjutsu."

Slowly forming hand seals, he executed the Water Release: Water Pressure Line Jutsu.

The sharp water line pierced cleanly through four walls, finally stopping at the fifth.

The clerk stared, dumbfounded. With his experience, he immediately realized Ishiro's technique was entirely new, with power nearly reaching B-rank yet chakra consumption clearly far below that level.

Quickly inspecting the damaged walls, the clerk rushed back, grabbing Ishiro's arm in excitement. "How much chakra does it consume?"

"Only about 25C," Ishiro replied calmly.

The clerk sucked in a breath. Such a potent technique using merely 25C—barely 20% of a typical B-rank jutsu's consumption—made its value immense, almost on par with some Kekkei Genkai-level techniques.

"Quick! Write it down immediately!" the clerk said, handing Ishiro a blank scroll. "Provide two versions: one original and one simplified."

Ishiro complied, adding additional notes and insights on mastering the technique.

Reading through it, the clerk beamed with satisfaction. Having worked here for many years, his greatest joy was seeing new jutsu added to the village collection. He hadn't been this happy since obtaining Uzumaki sealing techniques years ago.

Recovering from his excitement, the clerk smiled at Ishiro. "This jutsu is excellent. You're granted two more free C-rank jutsu selections. Pick whatever you like—I'll handle the paperwork."

Delighted, Ishiro felt luck was truly on his side today.

With three free selections now, his hesitation vanished. He quickly chose:

Mind Disturbance Jutsu (Yin Release): 16 seals, 3.8C chakra cost.

Body Paralysis Jutsu (Genjutsu): 15 seals, 2.7C chakra initially, plus 1C per second maintained.

Earth Clone Jutsu (Earth Release): 14 seals, minimum 50C chakra per clone, adjustable upwards for increased durability.

Additionally, using his remaining 7,000 points, he exchanged for:

Underground Submergence (Earth Release): 15 seals, 10C chakra plus 1C per second underground.

Anti-Sensory Jutsu: Alerts user immediately upon enemy sensing attempts, allowing reverse tracking—a vital skill he'd realized through missions.

Basic Swordsmanship Technique: Simple but useful in combination with genjutsu. Given his limited physical strength, Ishiro didn't expect much, just basic self-defense capability.

This exchange depleted nearly all his saved contribution points.

But Ishiro left satisfied, confident these new skills would greatly enhance his versatility as a ninja.
