Ava stared blankly as the nurse was changing the bandage on her head. She had spent a week at the hospital after the accident she got involved in.
Her head felt like a thousand dagger's were droven through and stuck. The strong smell of iodine made her feel nauseated, coupled with the sickening thought of Rufus and his supposed fiancee sitting across her bed as they held hands and indulged in other romantic gestures when they came visiting the day before.
"Could my life get any worse"Ava thought bitterly as she remembered the fact that both her parents were dead under painful circumstances and now she had lost the love of her life to a complete stranger. "Can I go for a walk?" she thoughtlessly asked the nurse who was done tending to her wounds, she had a minor head and arm injury with swollen body parts. "Yes ma'am" the nurse replied in a care filled voice but pouted her lips in a not so certain look when Ava tried to leave the bed and winced in pain.
"Are you sure you feel up to going for a walk?" The nurse asked in a concerned tone, judging from the treatment she'd been administering to Ava, she knew she was strong enough to take a walk but the way Ava moved was telling her otherwise.
"Yes sure, I'd be back in no time" Ava said carefully managing the dizziness she felt in a bid to not raise an alarm which would prohibit her from clearing her mind. Nature was what she needed at this point, maybe she'd find some sort of consolation.

It was evening already and the hospital environment felt quite calm, most of visitors had left but a few persons could be seen littered across the yard. Ava wanted to walk alone but a care giver was assigned to her. She walked at a distance so not to invade Ava's privacy, which Ava thought to be kind and considerate. She walked slowly, occasionally taking pauses while ignoring the waves of pain that washed through her till she got to the garden area. The smell of roses and green plants made her feel alive "exactly what I need" she thought to herself as she took in the freshness of the environment while trying to find herself a good spot.
Her eyes rested on a bench directly under a broad tree which had lamps that gave dim light and a place where she could rest her head as she sat. "This should be perfect"she muttered under her breath as she gravitated towards the area. On sitting down she felt a wave of emotions as tears began to flow freely from her eyes, she sobbed till there were no tears left and then she began to talk. Talking into space was a form of therapy for Ava, that was how she coped with challenges before she met Rufus. And now that he was gone, she decided to give it a try.
She talked about how much pain she felt and the emotions she felt towards her best friend, she talked about how she was happy that Rufus found the love of his life only that she wished she was the one and not a stranger. She asked questions about how her life was going to be like from now hence forth,"is it just going to be me alone against the world?, can I ever be happy again?, would I ever find true love again? What would happen to the future I had envisioned with him?" She was asking when a masculine laughter erupted from behind her. Someone had been on the other side of the tree all along...
