David glanced at his watch, frowning.
It was nearly past the hour he was supposed to receive his salary.
And Liam was not here to help him sign the paperwork.
The office light above him flickered slightly, a soft buzz of mana whining through the glass bulb.
The accountant still hadn't spoken. Still pressing the buttons on his calculator and writing something on his paper.
David let out a tired sigh. His back ached. His patience wore thin. He stood.
"Maybe he forgot." He mumbled it under his breath.
He could see it happening. If the rumors were right, that he was forgetful, arrogant, impulsive.
Probably wandered off for food again or decided to sleep instead of signing the forms.
But he had not seen the Liam of the rumors. And he was not planning on doing that now or in the future.
