Devin left the library before anyone else. They were busy yelling, so hopefully they would not notice her absence. Sarah must enjoy having they claw at each other, she thought. Maybe she enjoyed watching her bloodline hate each other.
"Devie!" Maggie chased after her. "I thought we were watching the brawl, next second your gone. I was worried."
Devin saw the excitement on her face and smiled. "I didn't want to be in there. Too chaotic for me."
"What are you talking about? You love this stuff. Chaos just sort of has a way of-" Maggie took a step back to observe Devin. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Devin shook her head. "I just feel weird that's all. I'm going to get a drink now."
"What's there to feel bad about. We won!"
"You won Maggie." Devin sighed. "Can we talk about this later?"
"Now is fine, why can't we talk about this now? We won."
Devin was feeling hazed. "Maggie, you won. I'm happy for you, I really am, but I need some time to think."
"Think about what? Grandmother clearly wants you to come back, despite all the thing you've done. The art gallery Devin. Mom's art gallery." She crossed arms and leaned close to her sister. "Those weren't even your cards; you were supposed to be second to me. Now she's making you your own person. What's there to think about."
"You really think she gave me the art gallery? So now what do we do now, hug it out?" Devin scoffed. "God, are you that dumb? What happened in there, it wasn't a reconciliation Maggie it was an ultimatum. I either let my hatred for her win and lose everything mom stood for or step up and let her continue to let her Lord over me.
"You're impossible Devin. Sarah is a lot of bad things, but she has always cared about us. You know this, you were there. We grew up together."
"But you weren't really there Maggie. Your head was always up in the clouds, so you never truly saw what she was like. You were happy with anything they could give you."
"Because they were all we had. Mom's brothers wouldn't take us. Nana, grandma and grandpa willingly did. And they tried their best. You should be grateful."
"You don't even know what she did?'
"How the FUCK I'm I supposed to know when you don't talk to me!"
Devin flinched. Maggie and her yelled but, not like this...
Maggie runs her fingers through her hair in frustration. "I have asked more than I can count. I may be dumb, but I know how to reason Devin. If you open your mouth and fucking talk to me, I can finally see where you're coming from. But from where I'm standing right now, all I see is a fucking twenty-three-year-old, holding own to her pride and her mommy issues afraid to move on and take responsibility."
Maggie stormed off in a fit of rage, leaving Devin speechless.
Dynos comes in a minute later. "I think I'm going to head out now. Humans are so chatty. You want to grab dinner-"
Abruptly, Devin wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his chest. She didn't want him to see her face.
He patted her head awkwardly, but gently. "Bad day?" His voice was deep and soothing.
"The worst."
" Anything I can do?" He asked, his hands falling to her waist.
She held him to herself. " Just stay like this for a minute.
After a few minutes. He cleared his throat. " I was invited to a thing in two weeks. Would like to go with me?"
It was finally the day, and Devin had decided going to the official handover was suddenly not a good idea.
"Do you have to?" Devin asked Dynos in annoyance from her bed.
Dynos leaned against the room door frame, glowering at her. " Do I have to explain it to you again?"
" No."
" Good."
Devin waited for him to turn away before thrashing around on her bed. She sighed and sulked and accepted her fate.
Sarah, the ultimate winner thought it favorable to set up an event. The handover was today, and there was no escaping. Not only that Dynos was invited as well. Not that she didn't want him to be there.
The hug had made things awkward for her, not to mention the crying. Already he was becoming her comfort person and was starting to get used to having him around. She admitted to herself after that day that what she felt for him wasn't a crush anymore.
Devin liked Dynos. Stupidly enough.
Dynos stood by the door frame again, this time holding up a large bag. " I got you something." His voice was almost cheery.
Devin walked up to him. " What is it? A dress?"
" What a brilliant guess mistress." He mocked.
Devin rolled her eyes at Dynos's mocking tone. Her eyes roamed the package and then his face. " You actually got me a dress." She couldn't hide the surprise on her face.
" Why are you surprised? You model for me." He smiled at her before pushing the dress into her hands. " Get ready, will you? I'll come pick you up an hour." With that he disappeared into thin air.
Devin was disappointed. She wanted to hear him compliment her and say that he had carefully picked the dress because he knew she'd rock it. Was she hoping for too much?
The whole concept of her infatuation with him was stupid. He didn't want to stay on earth, much less be on it with her. After the wishes, he would vanish and the thought of her would never cross his mind ever again.
She threw her head back. Shit.
A few hours past, it was almost time and Dynos hadn't arrived yet. She stood in front of her mirror, admiring her makeup and hairdo. She was yet to put on the dress.
The dress was strapless and blue. She put it on carefully, trying her best not to rip the dress in any way. Minutes later she was still struggling with the zipper.
" Need help?"
Her head whipped around to see Dynos standing at the door frame. He was dressed like he was going to walk the runway himself. Everything from head to toe was his brand. He even styled his hair.
When she realized she was gawking, she faced the mirror. " No, I'm good."
She was still struggling, and a light chuckle filled the room. He was behind her in a second. " Your so stubborn. Let me help."
Giving in, she let her hands fall to her sides. She focused heavily on her breathing as he worked the zipper. They both knew he could hear her heart beating, which only made things worse.
"All done. Blue really suits you." He added softly. "I got you a necklace. It's for next season but I don't know how long I'll be around for. May I?"
She nodded, as she watched him put it on her from the mirror. He had no problem getting the latch on, like the god he was. He was perfect.
"Thank you. It's beautiful."
He noticed her somber tone and turns her around. "Are you sad now mistress? I thought the outfit would make you happy?" He spoke in a playful tone.
She looked up at him, "You don't think you'll be around for next season?"
"Only because you're trying to get rid of me."
"What If I'm not?" Her stare was bold. "What if I want to keep seeing you?"
The expression Dynos bore was a confused one. His brows lifted as he questioned, "Is this a new joke you've come up with Devin? Because I don't think you have an idea of what you're saying. You literally hate me." He reminded her, as if it was a known fact.
"I hated you. Your existence in my life was my pain, and still somehow, I-I find myself thinking about you all the time. I don't hate you, not anymore"
"You don't?" His brow was raised.
"I don't"
She gets on her tiptoe of her heel and gives him a peck on the lips. It was like impulse; she pulls back realizing what she had done and watches the flustered look on Dynos's face. Embarrassed, she turns to the dresser to pick up her purse. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-
"Where do you humans get off acting on impulses with no meaning?" He stood behind her, his voice cold. With a swift hand, he props her onto the dresser effortlessly.
"Dynos!" Devin yelped.
"I mean everything I do..." He hovered over her. " May I?"
She instinctively nods m, and before she realized what was happening, he was kissing her. It started off gently, but quickly, the kisses became fervent and rough. His hands were doing some magic, one in her hair and the other on her hip. The kisses itself were sending her into a spiral. She couldn't resist the intensity of his touch and the passion in his kiss. Time seemed to stand still as they were lost in the moment, consumed by desire. Her heart raced as she melted into his touch.
His hands slid down her sides and gripped her thighs tightly. He had her legs wrap around his waist and pressed her closer to the wall. He held her waist by one hand and proceeded to make a mess of her hair. He kissed her cheek and her chin, working his way down her neck. Her back arched against the wall as he worked her frame. She realized they were going at this for quite some time. It hit her that her entire look was basically ruined.
"Dynos..." She breathed heavily against him. "My make up."
She felt a smile against her neck. "I can fix that for you later." He continued with the kisses, ignoring her.
"But the event...?"
He glanced up at her coyly. "It's going to have to wait for you, love."
