Chapter 30 - After the storm

Madeline 's POV

My sleep broke the moment I felt the sunlight kiss my skin, my body felt like it was tied down making it difficult to move.

I rubbed my eyes trying to recall where I was, then it hit me, a scent that I have been recently familiar with.

Liam.

He was so close to me, tightly hugging me in his arms as if, if he would slightly loosen his grip, he would lose me.

I chuckled at the absurdity of the situation, just a few hours ago we promised not to cross the line, to not take this relationship beyond friendship.

But friends don't hold each other the way Liam was holding me right now.

But I can't blame him.

Rainy days were always hard for me, I lost something precious on a rainy day.

I was glad that he held me when I felt so miserable but if he kept doing this, I might get used to this, next time I break down, I'd want him here with me, next to me.

I noticed that he had put a plain white tee on and was not exposing his abs like yesterday trying to drive away the little amount of control I had.

I slightly turned facing him, unconsciously smiling, noticing that he had grown a stubble.

Raising my hand I traced his jaw, brushing his stubble which slightly prickled my hand.

"Should I let it grow or should I shave?"

Liam's voice vibrated and suddenly I withdrew my hand with a gasp.

Clearing my throat I said, "Good morning to you too,"

He chuckled, "How are you feeling?"

I suddenly frozen, not wanting to explain whatever happened yesterday.

He sighed tucking my hair, slowly patting my head he said, "You don't have to tell me everything, I just asked how you are feeling right now?"

My eyes teared up, my dad had showered me with love growing up, but, only when he was present.

I had spent days and nights crying and wailing in my own sorrow with no one to comfort me to ask me how I was feeling.

Dad had tried his best trying to develop the company and raise me at the same time.

But handling such a big company was not an easy task, he was always travelling and barely had time for me.

Breaking free from my thoughts I said, "This just lasts for a day, I'm sorry for being a nuisance."

Liam frowned slightly pulling away from me, "What nonsense!"

Laughing at his ridiculous expression I asked, "What about not crossing the line? I thought we agreed on that."

Liam's face suddenly turned serious, "This is not considered crossing the line, I was just comforting someone in distress."

Nodding my head I said, "Yup, sure, just comfort."

He did not respond but he slowly took his hands off my body, I suddenly felt cold as he retrieved his hands.

Then he spoke, "I don't want to confuse you Madeline, I meant every word I said yesterday, and even if I cross the line, don't let me."

He paused.

"But during moments like this it's allowed, when we are at our lowest, it's allowed."

Getting up from the bed I nodded, "Yup you make the rules, you bend the rules according to your will."

He shot me a glare, "Well this is not breaking any rule, no human with enough common sense will leave you alone in that state."

I just shrugged agreeing with him as I got off the bed.

Taking a shower I moved towards the kitchen.

Walking closer I heard noises in the kitchen my spine straightened as I ran back to where Liam was.

"What is it?" He asked, as he saw me rushing towards him

"Someone's in the kitchen!"

"What? No it's just us here, who could it be?"

His reply only increased my frustration, "I heard utensils clinking."

He turned towards the mirror continuing to apply some gel on his hair, "Now what do you want me to do?"

I moved closer to him, "Come with me to the kitchen."

He frowned, "Why should I? It's people like you that die first during horror movies,"

I glared at him, so he was also scared that is why he was acting this way.

''Look at you trying to act cool, if you are a man, come with me."

He turned towards me, "Right! As if men don't get scared and we don't die,"

I stomped my feet, "If we go together right now, we can tackle whoever is inside, if the intruder finds us, they will kill us, so isn't it better if we go now?"

After thinking for a minute, Liam followed me to the kitchen.

I pushed him to the front and hid behind his back .

But he didn't let go as he pulled me to the front, as we continued pushing and pulling each other, a voice came from the kitchen.

"Breakfast is ready!"

Our head simultaneously turned towards the kitchen as we walked forward and I heard Liam sighing in relief.

"Joyce, it's you!"

"Do you know him?" I asked, looking at the guy in the kitchen, he seemed to be someone of our age.

The man smiled, he had a boyish look on his face, almost very cute.

"Let me introduce myself, my lady, I'm Joyce, your official cook for a few days, I will be here morning and afternoon and leave the night for you lovebirds to make some love."

And I almost choked hearing that.
