Madeline's POV
I woke up the next morning with puffy eyes and swollen lips, I couldn't stare at my horrendous reflection in the mirror.
Liam's outburst still echoed in my ears, leaving a bitter taste on my tongue.
As I splashed cold water on my face I hoped to wash away the memories of last night's explosive confrontation.
The last thing I wanted was to have a conversation with Liam again or even look at his face, so I carefully turned the doorknob to find an empty hall.
A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I proceeded to the kitchen.
The place was clean.
Every dish was washed, the counters wiped down, and the floor spotless.
I walked closer, my brows furrowing. The plate I had plated for myself last night was still there.
But it was the only thing left on the counter, neatly covered as if someone had purposely kept it aside.
I stared at it for a moment.
He had eaten what was made for him and he had left my plate there.
A wave of relief washed over but I shook my head as if it would shake away the feelings I was experiencing.
I told myself I didn't care and that it didn't mean anything, that we didn't mean anything.
No matter what happened, food was important to me so without another thought I started making breakfast for myself.
By the time I was done, I wondered how I'd leave for college.
I couldn't possibly call Sebastian especially after the fight me and Liam had yesterday.
So I walked, walked for three kilometres before I booked a cab to get to college.
I had to admit that the cab services in the city were super fast.
I leaned against the window closing my eyes hoping to take a power nap before I reached college.
Before I knew it I was walking through my college gates, the bustling chatter, the rush to reach classes before the bell, this is exactly what I needed.
A busy bustling, distracting environment.
As I made my way towards the main building, I saw Evan and Victoria standing near the entrance.
Something was different in their stance.
Victoria was in a grey hoodie which was surprising because she never dressed that simple and Evan was standing at least 3 feet away from her awkwardly scratching his head.
I narrowed my eyes with suspicion as I approached them ''What's up with you both, you look awkward.''
Victoria cleared her throat while Evan turned his head so fast that I was afraid he might have broken it.
''Nothing,'' they replied together.
Ok, this definitely meant something was going on.
But before I could interrogate them Evan bent to my height eyeing me suspiciously, ''Did you cry yesterday? Why do you look like a pufferfish?''
I stiffened.
Damn, he was sharp and nothing could escape his eyes.
His observation skills and ability to notice and understand the emotions of those around him were among the reasons why Evan was one of the very few male psychology students in the class.
''Nopes, it's all in your imagination.''
Both of my friends didn't look convinced.
''Maddie, You know we are here-''
Before Evan could continue, I cut him off, ''I just didn't sleep well yesterday night, you know I was working on the project and that's it.''
Evan wasn't done yet but thankfully Victoria spoke trying to lighten the atmosphere noticing that I didn't want to share what happened.
''Well, maybe it's karma because you didn't share those tasty pancakes with us yesterday.''
I scoffed pointing my fingers at them, ''Sure! You both ditched me here, all alone yesterday! It was so boring yesterday.''
Victoria threw her head back as if stretching her neck, ''I had work.''
Evan sighed scratching his neck, ''I was sick, I told you!''
I shook my head refusing to accept what they were saying, ''Good excuses, But why are you both acting so out of character?''
Victoria looked at the ground as if the grass was interesting while Evan just stared past me.
I raised my chin, before asking ''So who asked out whom?''
Both of their attention snapped towards my face.
''No one!'' they blurted simultaneously.
''Ahhh...Interesting,'' my lips finally curved to form a teasing smirk.
Victoria's face turned red, ''Nothing is interesting, get out of your delusions.''
''Am I delusional, Evan what do you say?'' I turned my attention towards him.
He groaned, ''Maddie, stop it.''
I ginned, ''I could, but I won't''
''Was it you Evan?''
He looked at me as if I had asked him the most ridiculous question, ''What makes you think I could ever do that?''
Victoria scoffed hearing his answer.
I gasped ''Does that mean, you confessed Vicky!?''
Victoria rolled her eyes, ''Can we just go to class? The bell would ring in 2 minutes.''
I laughed, ''Avoid as much as you can, but I will get the truth out from your mouth soon.''
Victoria groaned as the three of us left for our first class.
As the day went by I found myself indulging in the banters, the lectures and gossip in the cafeteria.
An escape from everything that happened and everything about to happen.
As I was leaving college, I was exhausted but not the kind that made me feel like trash but the kind that made me feel like life was worth living.
And surprisingly Liam hadn't crossed my mind the whole day.
