Evaline:
By the time I stepped out of the library, my arms full of borrowed books and my mind buzzing with new information, the sun was already casting a golden hue over the Academy grounds. The mountain air carried the cool breath of an approaching September, rustling the ivy-covered walls and lifting the loose strands of hair around my face.
I had barely taken three steps toward the dorms when a familiar voice called out, "Eva?"
I froze.
I knew that voice.
Turning around, I spotted Mallory jogging across the courtyard toward me, her long auburn braid bouncing behind her and a wide grin on her face.
"Mallory!" I said, the surprise slipping into a smile before I could stop it.
She threw her arms around me in a tight hug. "I thought it was you! You look… different."
I tilted my head in question, and her gaze moved to my face, eyes narrowing slightly.
"Your eyes," she murmured. "They're… amber?"
Ah. The contacts.
