Just then, Marcus walks in with that same arrogant stride, the hem of his coat brushing dramatically behind him, his boots echoing on the cold floor as if the entire hall belongs to him.
He halts a few steps inside, eyes landing on Jackson, and immediately scrunches his nose with disdain.
"Ugh! Please don't tell me you are here alone," Marcus says, voice dripping in sarcasm and mockery. "Where are those two fellow fools of yours?"
Jackson doesn't flinch, though the tension in his jaw betrays the effort it takes to remain calm.
He doesn't want to fight, not here, not now. All he wants is her.
"Marcus, I just want Chloe," he says, voice rough, strained from the swirl of emotion rising in his chest. "And I'll leave this place. You can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, just give her back to me, because I know you have her. Why are you even keeping her for?"
