Chapter 49 - Dark Farm 45

Wan Qian was completely confused: "Huh?"

What does this person mean? She couldn't understand a single word they were saying.

But— Wan Qian sized up Sun Jiawang, her expression gradually becoming more serious. She didn't remember seeing this person on the farm. He was probably another intruder who sneaked in from the outside.

The news had said before that in business wars, some even sneak into other companies to steal official seals. Perhaps this strange woman, with her odd clothes and behavior, was aiming to do just that.

With that thought, Wan Qian's gaze became less friendly.

"I warn you, whatever you want to take from me, it's impossible." Especially stealing the official seal, that's out of the question.

"Leave now, and I might let you off." Mainly, it was late, and Wan Qian couldn't be bothered to call the police.

Sun Jiawang turned around, step by step, walking toward the darkness. As he got closer to the darkened area, his body began to disintegrate and break apart inch by inch, eventually scattering into countless severed limbs and broken bones. A gust of night wind blew, and all that remained was ash.

The night finally passed. Wen Xirou's internship period ended ahead of schedule.

The butler stood in front of her, asking with great gentleness, "Ms. Wen, the farm owner is very pleased with your performance these days. I wonder if you would like to become a permanent employee and stay at the farm?"

The sky was still hazy. The position of the sun couldn't be seen. But the morning sunlight touched her, and everything seemed reborn.

Wen Xirou shook her head.

"The farm work is really too exhausting. I don't think it's suitable for me. I'm sorry."

Staying on at the farm meant no more worrying about life-threatening dangers, but it also meant being assimilated into a ghost or a monster, never again able to be truly human.

"Alright then. I wish you good luck in the future." The butler had long been mentally prepared for Wen Xirou's decision.

He pulled out a key and unlocked the heavy farm gate. The iron door creaked open.

Wen Xirou stood still, not moving. She glanced around, not seeing Wan Qian. Unable to help herself, she asked, "Where's Wan Qian?"

The butler smiled and replied casually, "She has her own things to do."

Wen Xirou frowned slightly but soon relaxed, convincing herself. Perhaps Wan Qian had triggered some hidden content and entered a new haunted realm? After all, such things had happened before.

Wen Xirou walked out of the farm.Under the sunlight, the sign on the farm's gate suddenly flickered for a moment. "Dark Farm" was clearly visible.

At the same time, a white light descended upon Wen Xirou. She heard it—a sound she had never heard in the two haunted realms she had experienced before.

[Congratulations Wen Xirou for clearing "Dark Farm," please answer the following questions.]

*Question 1: Briefly describe the origin of the farm workers.*

Wen Xirou: "The workers on the farm are young people lured from remote villages, bound by a bondage contract with the farm. They are provided with food and lodging, but their freedom is restricted. They are not paid and are forced to work intensively while suffering physical torment."

*Question 2: Briefly describe the fate of the missing workers on the farm.*

Wen Xirou: "After Sun Jiawang was injured and required skin graft surgery, workers deceived into coming here, having no relatives to worry about, became the source for skin grafts, skinned alive and killed. However, the surgery was unsuccessful, and mismatched human skin was turned into human-skin books by Sun Jiawang."

*Question 3: Briefly describe Sun Jiawang's secret.*

Wen Xirou: "Sun Jiawang has gender identity disorder. After his injury, he got to know a pen pal through letters and even sent photos of himself dressed in women's clothing to the other person. Out of infatuation for his pen pal, he adopted the business suggestion of the 'bondage contract' that she proposed."

[Received… Rating in progress… Decryption level: 80%]

[Matched Talent: Superhuman Perception]

Hearing that voice, Wen Xirou was taken aback. Only 80%? She had thought she had uncovered all the truth—surely it should have been at least 90%.

"Not everyone can be a secrets unraveler," she sighed.

She then thought of Wan Qian. Perhaps only someone like Wan Qian, a big shot, could reach 100% decryption.

Wen Xirou calmly accepted the result, and after glancing at her own matched talent, she felt quite satisfied.

Soon, the white light faded, and she found herself standing on a film set. Xiao Lin ran over in tears and wrapped her arms around Wen Xirou.

"Wu wu wu, Sisther Xirou, you're finally back. I was so scared you wouldn't return."

Wen Xirou patted Xiao Lin's back. After all, they had been through a haunted realm together, and their relationship had deepened far beyond the usual assistant-star relationship.

Wen Xirou lifted her head and carefully looked around the set she was in. The fake flowers and fake grass used as decoration, the green screen awaiting post-production background, the clear clouds and sun, without the blurry feeling from frosted glass.

In that moment, Wen Xirou felt that this world was incredibly beautiful. Even the bald director beside her seemed exceptionally kind.

Though the director had been in the industry for five years, only making bad films, and had even once insulted her, calling her a flower vase who couldn't act. But right now, to Wen Xirou, he looked like a long-lost, beloved relative.

Just then, Xiao Lin, still crying in Wen Xirou's arms, lifted her head and, somewhat shyly, asked, "By the way, Sisther Xirou, about that pay raise you mentioned... is that still valid?"

Wen Xirou: "…" After a long pause, then Wen Xirou's face broke into a smile so gentle it almost bordered on ferocity.

"Of course, it counts," each word was squeezed out from between her teeth.
