Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Three’s a Crowd, But I’m the Only One Getting Hurt

Unfortunately, Yagura had absolutely no talent when it came to naming techniques.

Since he hadn't yet crossed paths with the Second Hokage, he decided to put that matter on hold for now. Maybe inspiration would strike him another day.

For now, it was best to focus on bringing his current ideas to life.

He had Lightning Release, Water Release, and Wind Release.

In Yagura's mind, he had already developed his Lightning Release techniques to a satisfactory level.

Lightning Release taijutsu combined with his Thunderclap and Flash Technique gave him confidence in his close combat abilities. Even the weakness he had shown in his fight against Jinin Akebino—his lack of raw strength—had been compensated for after becoming a Jinchūriki. Going forward, he could continue using Lightning Release to enhance his physical capabilities.

Besides, he was still in his growth phase. He could get stronger (probably?).

So there wasn't much room left to develop Lightning Release. All he needed was consistent training.

As for Wind Release…

Honestly, Yagura hadn't yet figured out how he wanted to use it.

For now, his combat strategy was simple: close-range with Lightning Release, long-range with Water Release.

If he were to develop Wind Release, its role would have to be in mid-to-close-range combat.

That much was clear, but Yagura lacked inspiration.

There were three notable Wind Release users in Naruto: Temari from Sunagakure, the protagonist Naruto Uzumaki, and the pseudo-Fifth Hokage, Danzō Shimura.

Yet none of their Wind Release techniques appealed to him as a reference.

Outside of Naruto, he considered other anime characters who wielded wind-based abilities, but he hadn't settled on anyone worth emulating.

So for now, Wind Release would have to wait. He'd focus on mastering Water and Lightning Release first.

...

"The basic Water Release jutsu, like Water Barrier and Water Dragon Bullet, are no problem. I've successfully learned Water Severing Wave, so I just need to refine it further."

It was time to try something new.

"Water Release: Water Prison Jutsu."

His target was a wooden training post. The surrounding water surged upward, forming a spherical prison that completely engulfed it.

The Water Prison Jutsu was unique compared to other techniques—it was one of the few that relied on a special mechanic.

Anyone trapped inside was rendered completely immobile.

During the Land of Waves mission in the original story, Kakashi Hatake had been restrained by Zabuza's Water Prison Jutsu and was only freed thanks to Naruto and Sasuke's intervention.

Yagura had personally experienced being trapped inside one before.

The jutsu worked by exerting immense water pressure on the body, preventing movement.

However, this required an extraordinarily high level of water pressure to be effective.

That was why the technique had a major drawback—the user needed to keep their hand submerged in the water sphere to maintain control.

Being trapped inside meant complete paralysis, with even the slightest movement becoming impossible.

That was when Yagura had a thought—

—What if the water pressure was increased even further? Could it outright crush a person?

Similar to Gaara's Sand Binding Coffin and Sand Burial.

With that in mind…

He channeled a large amount of chakra, increasing the density and pressure of the water molecules inside the sphere. The pressure mounted rapidly.

The wooden post inside reached its limit, and with no resistance left—

It was silently crushed into dust.

"Now then, what should I call this technique?"

BOOM!!!

Releasing the jutsu, the Water Prison exploded outward.

What remained of the wooden post had been reduced to particles too fine to see with the naked eye.

After using several techniques in succession, Yagura's chakra reserves were depleted. The Tailed Beast Cloak that had been covering him faded away, retracting into his body.

Water dripped from his soaked clothing.

Seeing that his technique was feasible, Yagura was deep in thought.

He muttered to himself, "Water Binding Coffin? Water Burial? Gaara's gonna want royalties for that… Or wait, no—I should be the one asking him for royalties."

Chronologically speaking, Yagura had come up with it first.

Hmm.

...

"Young patriarch Yagura."

A ninja from the Karatachi Clan appeared, entering the training ground.

"Hm?"

"Your friends have come to visit. The Patriarch has invited them to the main hall."

Mangetsu and the others?

Realizing he hadn't seen them in a while, Yagura nodded. "Got it. Let them know I'll be there soon."

But first, he needed a change of clothes.

...

In the tea room, the three guests sat formally on their knees at the table.

Yagura's house, his responsibility.

After sending his grandfather to rest, he pulled out a large bottle of soda from the fridge.

"Is soda okay?"

Mangetsu immediately grumbled, "Could you at least show some respect for this expensive tea room your grandpa had built? This is not the place for soda."

"Alright then…"

Yagura, ever the contrarian, put the soda back and retrieved another bottle. "Lemon tea?"

This guy was clearly messing around.

Mangetsu, deciding not to engage, swallowed his complaints and resigned himself.

Fine. At least it's still tea.

Yagura nodded in satisfaction and poured each of them a cup. "How's your week been?"

Mangetsu shot him a deadpan look. "Shouldn't we be asking you that? Hey, what's the deal with you suddenly becoming a Jinchūriki?"

Zabuza and Kaede turned serious, staring at Yagura.

"Oh, that?"

Lifting his shirt slightly, Yagura tapped the sealing formula on his stomach.

"It was a sudden decision. The Third Mizukage picked me out and kept it hush-hush."

Mangetsu clenched his teeth. "I knew it! Damn that Third Mizukage! Forcing you into this!"

They didn't know the full details.

Yagura just stuck out his tongue playfully. Might as well blame the old man—his reputation was already terrible anyway.

Zabuza asked, "Are you alright?"

...

"No problems."

Yagura waved his hand dismissively.

"Relax. The Three-Tails is actually pretty easy to get along with. We're already close."

Isobu: ...…

It sounded absurd, but given the current situation, there didn't seem to be any immediate danger.

Yagura took a sip of his tea and changed the subject. "How have you guys been?"

Mangetsu answered concisely, "Academy in the morning, training in the afternoon, food break, then more training."

Yagura raised an eyebrow. "All three of you, together?"

"Obviously."

"You organized it?"

"Of course." Mangetsu smirked, clearly pleased with himself. "These two are hopeless alone—one's a mute, the other's a loner. Without me, they'd never train together."

Yagura clicked his tongue in amusement. "Didn't you and Zabuza used to hate each other? Not fighting anymore?"

Mangetsu reluctantly admitted, "It's… manageable."

Zabuza scoffed, "Tch. I only put up with this jellyfish because of you."

Yagura, seeing their dynamic, chuckled. "Well, well. So peaceful."
