Suddenly, he rose and stormed out of the restaurant, without bothering about the sea of gossipy eyes staring after him.
But just as he reached the curb, his irritation doubled. She was gone.
Her conspicuous red car had already pulled away from the parking lot and he could see the rear light as it disappeared into the night.
He let out a slow breath and clenched his fists, resisting the childish urge to throw something—preferably a very expensive bottle of wine, precisely at Shantel's head.
With barely controlled fury, he walked back to his car. At his approach, his driver stepped out from the car to hold the door open for him. Just then, his jaw flexed tightly as he stared at the glowing screen in his hand.
"You'd agree with me that tonight was a huge success. I'll send you the place of our next meeting. Don't forget to have a good night's rest."
He blinked slowly as if the extra second would somehow change the absurd words on the screen but it didn't.
